Surah 96

العلقAl-'Alaq

Bismillah
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
96:1
اقْرَأْReadبِاسْمِin (the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordالَّذِىthe One Whoخَلَقَcreated

Recite in the name of your Lord who created

96:2
خَلَقَHe createdالْإِنسَانَmanمِنْfromعَلَقٍa clinging substance

Created man from a clinging substance

96:3
اقْرَأْReadوَرَبُّكَand your Lordالْأَكْرَمُ(is) the Most Generous

Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous

96:4
الَّذِىThe One Whoعَلَّمَtaughtبِالْقَلَمِby the pen

Who taught by the pen

96:5
عَلَّمَTaughtالْإِنسَانَmanمَاwhatلَمْnotيَعْلَمْhe knew

Taught man that which he knew not

96:6
كَلَّآNay!إِنَّIndeedالْإِنسَانَmanلَيَطْغَىٰٓsurely transgresses

No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

96:7
أَنThatرَّاٰهُhe sees himselfاسْتَغْنَىٰٓself-sufficient

Because he sees himself self-sufficient

96:8
إِنَّIndeedإِلَىٰtoرَبِّكَyour Lordالرُّجْعَىٰٓ(is) the return

Indeed, to your Lord is the return

96:9
أَرَأَيْتَHave you seen?الَّذِىthe one whoيَنْهَىٰforbids

Have you seen the one who forbids

96:10
عَبْدًاA slaveإِذَاwhenصَلَّىٰhe prays

A servant when he prays

96:11
أَرَأَيْتَHave you seen?إِنifكَانَhe isعَلَىuponالْهُدَىٰٓ[the] guidance

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

96:12
أَوْOrأَمَرَhe enjoinsبِالتَّقْوَى[of the] righteousness

Or enjoins righteousness

96:13
أَرَأَيْتَHave you seen?إِنifكَذَّبَhe deniesوَتَوَلَّىٰٓand turns away

Have you seen if he denies and turns away

96:14
أَلَمْDoes not?يَعْلَمhe knowبِأَنَّthatاللهَAllahيَرَىٰsees

Does he not know that Allah sees

96:15
كَلَّاNay!لَئِنIfلَّمْnotيَنتَهِhe desistsلَنَسْفَعًاsurely We will drag himبِالنَّاصِيَةِby the forelock

No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock

96:16
نَاصِيَةٍA forelockكَاذِبَةٍlyingخَاطِئَةٍsinful

A lying, sinning forelock

96:17
فَلْيَدْعُThen let him callنَادِيَهۥhis associates

Then let him call his associates

96:18
سَنَدْعُWe will callالزَّبَانِيَةَthe Angels of Hell

We will call the angels of Hell

96:19
كَلَّاNay!لَا(Do) notتُطِعْهُobey himوَاسْجُدْBut prostrateوَاقْتَرِبْand draw near (to Allah)

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]
