Understand the Qur'an in its own words

This is a free, non-profit tool for learning the language of the Qur'an — so that when you read it, or stand in prayer, or listen to it recited, you are meeting Allah's words themselves, as close to their real meaning as a learner can come, rather than only ever meeting them through a translation.

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

“And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers…” — Al-Isrāʾ 17:82

A small number of words carry most of the Qur'an. Around 500 words account for roughly 80% of its running text, so learning them — in order of how often they actually occur — makes far more of the Qur'an readable in its own language than the effort would suggest.

Every card gives the word, its meaning, its three-letter root and the family of words built on that root, with up to three real verses showing the word in use: each verse laid out word by word, the target word highlighted, and the Saheeh International translation beneath.

• Browse by topic — pronouns, prepositions, particles, the Names of Allah, opposites paired together, and more.
• Browse by surah — the vocabulary of a surah at a time, with the words that carry most of it and the words found nowhere else in the Qur'an both marked.
• Grammar guides — short reference pages on pronouns, prepositions, particles, conjunctions, adverbs and verb conjugation.
• Root Library — all 1,651 Qur'anic roots and their word families, the way Arabic dictionaries are organised.
• Practice that adapts to your answers — the app learns from recognition checks, estimates when to review again, and asks you to revisit words over time. These estimates are not guarantees of retention or comprehension.
• Quizzes and progress tracking, and it works offline once loaded.

Non-profit, and still in beta

There is no advertising, nothing is sold, and no money is taken or wanted. This is built and maintained by a very small team, in our own time, and offered freely. We ask Allah to forgive any mistake we have made in His Book or in explaining it.
