Qur'an Core Vocabulary

Last updated: August 11, 2026

Plain-language summary: you can use the App fully without creating an account. If you do create one, we collect your email address (for sign-in) and your learning progress, so it can sync across your devices. We don't run ads, we don't use tracking/analytics scripts, we don't do marketing email, and we don't sell your data to anyone.

1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Qur'an Core Vocabulary (the "App," "we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the App at this domain. We are an individual developer operating independently from Canada; see About for more. This policy is written with reference to Canadian privacy principles, including those underlying the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. What we collect

DataWhenWhy
Email addressOnly if you choose to create an account To send you a one-time "magic link" sign-in email and identify your account. We don't set or ask you to create a password.
Learning progress (words marked known, quiz scores, course completion) As you use the App If signed in: saved to your account so it syncs across devices. If not signed in: saved only in your browser's local storage, on your device, and never sent to us.
Basic technical data (e.g. IP address, browser type) Automatically, as part of normal web/email delivery This is collected by our infrastructure providers (see below) as an ordinary part of serving web pages and delivering sign-in emails — not by us directly, and not used by us for tracking or profiling.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics scripts, or third-party trackers of any kind. We do not collect your name, location, or any other personal information beyond what's listed above, and we never knowingly collect more than what's needed to run the App.

3. How we use what we collect

We use the information described above only to:

We do not use your information for advertising, do not build a profile of you for marketing purposes, and do not use it for any purpose beyond operating the App as described here.

4. Our basis for processing it

Where you create an account, we collect and use your email address and progress data on the basis of your consent — given by the act of creating an account — and because doing so is necessary to provide the account features you've asked for (syncing progress across devices). You may withdraw that consent at any time by requesting account deletion (see section 11).

5. Service providers we use

The App is built as a static site and doesn't run our own servers. It relies on two third-party infrastructure providers to operate:

These providers act on our behalf to operate the App and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we do not sell your data.

6. International data transfers

Our service providers may process and store data on servers located outside Canada, depending on how the underlying infrastructure is configured. Where that's the case, your information may become subject to the laws of the country where it's stored and could potentially be accessed by that country's authorities under its own legal processes. We select providers that maintain reasonable security and privacy commitments regardless of where they operate.

7. Local storage / cookies

If you use the App without signing in, your progress is saved using your browser's local storage — a standard web technology that keeps small amounts of data on your own device so the App remembers your progress between visits. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. We do not use tracking cookies. You can clear local storage at any time through your browser's settings.

8. How long we keep data

If you have an account, we keep your email address and progress data for as long as your account remains active, or until you request its deletion, whichever comes first. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where a short delay is needed to complete the deletion process across our service providers' systems.

9. Marketing and electronic messages

The only email we send is the sign-in "magic link" you request each time you choose to sign in — a transactional message sent at your own request, not a marketing message. We do not send newsletters or promotional email, and we do not use your email address for any purpose other than authenticating your account.

10. Automated decision-making

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. The App's Learn-mode progress logic runs entirely to decide what flashcard to show you next — it does not make any decision about you as a person.

11. Your choices and rights

12. Children's use

The App is educational in nature and may be used by learners of any age, including children, typically with a parent, teacher, or guardian's involvement. We do not knowingly collect more information from a child than from any other user (see section 2 above), and we do not require any personal information beyond an email address, and only if an account is created. Parents or guardians with questions or concerns about a child's use of the App, or who wish to review or delete a child's account data, are welcome to contact us.

13. Security

We rely on our infrastructure providers' standard security practices (encrypted connections, access-controlled databases) to protect the data described above. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we don't collect more than what the App needs to function, which limits what could ever be exposed.

14. Data breach notification

If we become aware of a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and, where required by applicable law, the appropriate regulator, without unreasonable delay.

16. How to complain

If you have a concern about how we handle your personal information, please contact us first at the email in section 18 so we can try to resolve it directly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or with the privacy regulator in your own province or country of residence.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change. If changes are significant, we'll make a reasonable effort to highlight them within the App.
