Surah 89
الفجرAl-Fajr
The Dawn · 30 verses · 137 words
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
وَالْفَجْرِBy the dawn
By the dawn
وَلَيَالٍAnd the nightsعَشْرٍten
And [by] ten nights
وَالشَّفْعِAnd the evenوَالْوَتْرِand the odd
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
وَالَّيْلِAnd the nightإِذَاwhenيَسْرِit passes
And [by] the night when it passes
هَلْIs?فِىinذَٰلِكَthatقَسَمٌ(not) an oathلِّذِيfor thoseحِجْرٍwho understand
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception
أَلَمْDid not?تَرَyou seeكَيْفَhow?فَعَلَdealtرَبُّكَyour Lordبِعَادٍwith Aad
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad
إِرَمَIramذَاتِpossessors (of)الْعِمَادِlofty pillars
[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars
الَّتِىWhichلَمْnotيُخْلَقْhad been createdمِثْلُهَاlike themفِىinالْبِلَادِthe cities
The likes of whom had never been created in the land
وَثَمُودَAnd Thamudالَّذِينَwhoجَابُواcarved outالصَّخْرَthe rocksبِالْوَادِin the valley
And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley
وَفِرْعَوْنَAnd Firaunذِىowner ofالْأَوْتَادِstakes
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes
الَّذِينَWhoطَغَوْاtransgressedفِىinالْبِلَادِthe lands
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
فَأَكْثَرُواAnd (made) muchفِيهَاthereinالْفَسَادَcorruption
And increased therein the corruption
فَصَبَّSo pouredعَلَيْهِمْon themرَبُّكَyour Lordسَوْطَscourgeعَذَابٍ(of) punishment
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment
إِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَبِالْمِرْصَادِ(is) surely Ever Watchful
Indeed, your Lord is in observation
فَأَمَّاAnd as forالْإِنسَانُmanإِذَاwhenمَاdoesابْتَلَاهُtry himرَبُّهُۥhis Lordفَأَكْرَمَهُۥand is generous to himوَنَعَّمَهُۥand favors himفَيَقُولُhe saysرَبِّىٓMy Lordأَكْرَمَنِhas honored me
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me
وَأَمَّآButإِذَاwhenمَاdoesابْتَلَاهُHe try himفَقَدَرَand restrictsعَلَيْهِfor himرِزْقَهُۥhis provisionفَيَقُولُthen he saysرَبِّىٓMy Lordأَهَانَنِ(has) humiliated me
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me
كَلَّاNay!بَلButلَّاnotتُكْرِمُونَyou honorالْيَتِيمَthe orphan
No! But you do not honor the orphan
وَلَاAnd notتَحَاضُّونَyou feel the urgeعَلَىٰtoطَعَامِfeedالْمِسْكِينِthe poor
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor
وَتَأْكُلُونَAnd you consumeالتُّرَاثَthe inheritanceأَكْلًاdevouringلَّمًّاaltogether
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether
وَتُحِبُّونَAnd you loveالْمَالَwealthحُبًّا(with) loveجَمًّاimmense
And you love wealth with immense love
كَلَّآNay!إِذَاWhenدُكَّتِis leveledالْأَرْضُthe earthدَكًّاpoundedدَكًّا(and) crushed
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
وَجَآءَAnd comesرَبُّكَyour Lordوَالْمَلَكُand the Angelsصَفًّاrankصَفًّا(upon) rank
And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank
وَجِىٓءَAnd is broughtيَوْمَئِذٍthat DayبِجَهَنَّمَHellيَوْمَئِذٍThat Dayيَتَذَكَّرُwill rememberالْإِنسَانُmanوَأَنَّىٰbut how?لَهُ(will be) for himالذِّكْرَىٰthe remembrance
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance
يَقُولُHe will sayيَالَيْتَنِىO I wish!قَدَّمْتُI had sent forthلِحَيَاتِىfor my life
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life
فَيَوْمَئِذٍSo that Dayلَّاnotيُعَذِّبُwill punishعَذَابَهُۥٓ(as) His punishmentأَحَدٌanyone
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment
وَلَاAnd notيُوثِقُwill bindوَثَاقَهُۥٓ(as) His bindingأَحَدٌanyone
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]
يَاأَيَّتُهَاOالنَّفْسُsoul!الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُwho is satisfied
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul
ارْجِعِىٓReturnإِلَىٰtoرَبِّكِyour Lordرَاضِيَةًwell pleasedمَّرْضِيَّةًand pleasing
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]
فَادْخُلِىSo enterفِىamongعِبَادِىMy slaves
And enter among My [righteous] servants
وَادْخُلِىAnd enterجَنَّتِىMy Paradise
And enter My Paradise
