Surah 88
الغاشيةAl-Ghashiyah

بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
هَلْHas?أَتَاكَ(there) come to youحَدِيثُ(the) newsالْغَاشِيَةِ(of) the Overwhelming
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]
وُجُوهٌFacesيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayخَاشِعَةٌ(will be) humbled
[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled
عَامِلَةٌLaboringنَّاصِبَةٌexhausted
Working [hard] and exhausted
تَصْلَىThey will burnنَارًا(in) a Fireحَامِيَةًintensely hot
They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire
تُسْقَىٰThey will be given to drinkمِنْfromعَيْنٍa springاٰنِيَةٍboiling
They will be given drink from a boiling spring
لَّيْسَNot isلَهُمْfor themطَعَامٌfoodإِلَّاexceptمِنfromضَرِيعٍa bitter thorny plant
For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant
لَّاNotيُسْمِنُit nourishesوَلَاand notيُغْنِىit availsمِنfromجُوعٍhunger
Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger
وُجُوهٌFacesيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayنَّاعِمَةٌ(will be) joyful
[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure
لِسَعْيِهَاWith their effortرَاضِيَةٌsatisfied
With their effort [they are] satisfied
فِىInجَنَّةٍa gardenعَالِيَةٍelevated
In an elevated garden
لَّاNotتَسْمَعُthey will hearفِيهَاthereinلَاغِيَةًvain talk
Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech
فِيهَاThereinعَيْنٌ(will be) a springجَارِيَةٌflowing
Within it is a flowing spring
فِيهَاThereinسُرُرٌ(will be) thronesمَّرْفُوعَةٌraised high
Within it are couches raised high
وَأَكْوَابٌAnd cupsمَّوْضُوعَةٌput in place
And cups put in place
وَنَمَارِقُAnd cushionsمَصْفُوفَةٌlined up
And cushions lined up
وَزَرَابِىُّAnd carpetsمَبْثُوثَةٌspread out
And carpets spread around
أَفَلَاThen do not?يَنظُرُونَthey lookإِلَىtowardsالْإِبِلِthe camelsكَيْفَhow?خُلِقَتْthey are created
Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created
وَإِلَىAnd towardsالسَّمَآءِthe skyكَيْفَhow?رُفِعَتْit is raised
And at the sky - how it is raised
وَإِلَىAnd towardsالْجِبَالِthe mountainsكَيْفَhow?نُصِبَتْthey are fixed
And at the mountains - how they are erected
وَإِلَىAnd towardsالْأَرْضِthe earthكَيْفَhow?سُطِحَتْit is spread out
And at the earth - how it is spread out
فَذَكِّرْSo remindإِنَّمَآonlyأَنتَyouمُذَكِّرٌ(are) a reminder
So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder
لَّسْتَYou are notعَلَيْهِمover themبِمُصَيْطِرٍa controller
You are not over them a controller
إِلَّاButمَنwhoeverتَوَلَّىٰturns awayوَكَفَرَand disbelieves
However, he who turns away and disbelieves
فَيُعَذِّبُهُThen will punish himاللهُAllahالْعَذَابَ(with) the punishmentالْأَكْبَرَgreatest
Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment
إِنَّIndeedإِلَيْنَآto Usإِيَابَهُمْ(will be) their return
Indeed, to Us is their return
ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedعَلَيْنَاupon Usحِسَابَهُمْ(is) their account
Then indeed, upon Us is their account
