Surah 83
المطففينAl-Mutaffifin
The Defrauding · 36 verses · 169 words
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
وَيْلٌWoeلِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَto those who give less
Woe to those who give less [than due]
الَّذِينَThose whoإِذَاwhenاكْتَالُواْthey take a measureعَلَىfromالنَّاسِthe peopleيَسْتَوْفُونَthey take in full
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full
وَإِذَاBut whenكَالُوهُمْthey give by measure (to) themأَوorوَّزَنُوهُمْthey weigh (for) themيُخْسِرُونَthey give less
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss
أَلَاDo not?يَظُنُّthinkأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseأَنَّهُمthat theyمَّبْعُوثُونَ(will be) resurrected
Do they not think that they will be resurrected
لِيَوْمٍFor a DayعَظِيمٍGreat
For a tremendous Day
يَوْمَ(The) Dayيَقُومُwill standالنَّاسُmankindلِرَبِّbefore (the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds
كَلَّآNay!إِنَّIndeedكِتَابَ(the) recordالْفُجَّارِ(of) the wickedلَفِى(is) surely inسِجِّينٍSijjin
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen
وَمَآAnd what?أَدْرَاكَcan make you knowمَاwhat?سِجِّينٌ(is) Sijjin
And what can make you know what is sijjeen
كِتَابٌA bookمَّرْقُومٌwritten
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
وَيْلٌWoeيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَto the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers
الَّذِينَThose whoيُكَذِّبُونَdenyبِيَوْمِ(the) Dayالدِّينِ(of) the Judgment
Who deny the Day of Recompense
وَمَاAnd notيُكَذِّبُcan denyبِهِۦٓ[of] itإِلَّاexceptكُلُّeveryمُعْتَدٍtransgressorأَثِيمٍsinful
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor
إِذَاWhenتُتْلَىٰare recitedعَلَيْهِto himاٰيَاتُنَاOur Versesقَالَhe saysأَسَاطِيرُStoriesالْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples
كَلَّاNay!بَلْButرَانَ(the) stain has coveredعَلَىٰ[over]قُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّا(for) whatكَانُواthey used toيَكْسِبُونَearn
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning
كَلَّآNay!إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyعَنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayلَّمَحْجُوبُونَsurely will be partitioned
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned
ثُمَّThenإِنَّهُمْindeed theyلَصَالُوا(surely) will burnالْجَحِيمِ(in) the Hellfire
Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire
ثُمَّThenيُقَالُit will be saidهَٰذَاThisالَّذِى(is) whatكُنتُمyou used toبِهِۦ[of it]تُكَذِّبُونَdeny
Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny
كَلَّآNay!إِنَّIndeedكِتَابَ(the) recordالْأَبْرَارِ(of) the righteousلَفِى(will be) surely inعِلِّيِّينَIlliyin
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun
وَمَآAnd what?أَدْرَاكَcan make you knowمَاwhat?عِلِّيُّونَ(is) Illiyun
And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun
كِتَابٌA bookمَّرْقُومٌwritten
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
يَشْهَدُهُWitness itالْمُقَرَّبُونَthose brought near
Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]
إِنَّIndeedالْأَبْرَارَthe righteousلَفِى(will be) surely inنَعِيمٍbliss
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
عَلَىOnالْأَرَائِكِthronesيَنظُرُونَobserving
On adorned couches, observing
تَعْرِفُYou will recognizeفِىinوُجُوهِهِمْtheir facesنَضْرَةَ(the) radianceالنَّعِيمِ(of) bliss
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure
يُسْقَوْنَThey will be given to drinkمِنofرَّحِيقٍa pure wineمَّخْتُومٍsealed
They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed
خِتَامُهُۥIts sealمِسْكٌ(will be of) muskوَفِىAnd forذَٰلِكَthatفَلْيَتَنَافَسِlet aspireالْمُتَنَافِسُونَthe aspirers
The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete
وَمِزَاجُهُۥAnd its mixtureمِن(is) ofتَسْنِيمٍTasneem
And its mixture is of Tasneem
عَيْنًاA springيَشْرَبُwill drinkبِهَاfrom itالْمُقَرَّبُونَthose brought near
A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoأَجْرَمُواْcommitted crimesكَانُواْused toمِنَatالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelievedيَضْحَكُونَlaugh
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed
وَإِذَاAnd whenمَرُّواْthey passedبِهِمْby themيَتَغَامَزُونَthey winked at one another
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances
وَإِذَاAnd whenانقَلَبُواْthey returnedإِلَىٰٓtoأَهْلِهِمُtheir peopleانقَلَبُواْthey would returnفَكِهِينَjesting
And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting
وَإِذَاAnd whenرَأَوْهُمْthey saw themقَالُوٓاْthey saidإِنَّIndeedهَٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseلَضَآلُّونَsurely have gone astray
And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost
وَمَآBut notأُرْسِلُواthey had been sentعَلَيْهِمْover themحَافِظِينَ(as) guardians
But they had not been sent as guardians over them
فَالْيَوْمَSo todayالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelievedمِنَatالْكُفَّارِthe disbelieversيَضْحَكُونَthey will laugh
So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers
عَلَىOnالْأَرَائِكِthe thronesيَنظُرُونَobserving
On adorned couches, observing
هَلْHave (not)?ثُوِّبَbeen rewardedالْكُفَّارُthe disbelieversمَا(for) whatكَانُواthey used toيَفْعَلُونَdo
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do
