Surah 81
التكويرAt-Takwir
The Overthrowing · 29 verses · 104 words
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
إِذَاWhenالشَّمْسُthe sunكُوِّرَتْis wrapped up
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
وَإِذَاAnd whenالنُّجُومُthe starsانكَدَرَتْfall losing their luster
And when the stars fall, dispersing
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْجِبَالُthe mountainsسُيِّرَتْare moved away
And when the mountains are removed
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْعِشَارُthe full-term she-camelsعُطِّلَتْ(are) left untended
And when full-term she-camels are neglected
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْوُحُوشُthe wild beastsحُشِرَتْare gathered
And when the wild beasts are gathered
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْبِحَارُthe seasسُجِّرَتْare made to overflow
And when the seas are filled with flame
وَإِذَاAnd whenالنُّفُوسُthe soulsزُوِّجَتْare paired
And when the souls are paired
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْمَوْؤُودَةُthe female infant buried aliveسُئِلَتْis asked
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
بِأَىِّFor what?ذَنبٍsinقُتِلَتْshe was killed
For what sin she was killed
وَإِذَاAnd whenالصُّحُفُthe pagesنُشِرَتْare laid open
And when the pages are made public
وَإِذَاAnd whenالسَّمَآءُthe skyكُشِطَتْis stripped away
And when the sky is stripped away
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْجَحِيمُthe Hellfireسُعِّرَتْis set ablaze
And when Hellfire is set ablaze
وَإِذَاAnd whenالْجَنَّةُParadiseأُزْلِفَتْis brought near
And when Paradise is brought near
عَلِمَتْWill knowنَفْسٌa soulمَّآwhatأَحْضَرَتْit has brought
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]
فَلَآBut nay!أُقْسِمُI swearبِالْخُنَّسِby the retreating planets
So I swear by the retreating stars
الْجَوَارِThose that runالْكُنَّسِ(and) disappear
Those that run [their courses] and disappear
وَالَّيْلِAnd the nightإِذَاwhenعَسْعَسَit departs
And by the night as it closes in
وَالصُّبْحِAnd the dawnإِذَاwhenتَنَفَّسَit breathes
And by the dawn when it breathes
إِنَّهُۥIndeed itلَقَوْلُ(is) surely a wordرَسُولٍ(of) a Messengerكَرِيمٍnoble
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
ذِىPossessor ofقُوَّةٍpowerعِندَwithذِى(the) Owner ofالْعَرْشِthe Throneمَكِينٍsecure
[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position]
مُطَاعٍOne to be obeyedثَمَّandأَمِينٍtrustworthy
Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy
وَمَاAnd notصَاحِبُكُم(is) your companionبِمَجْنُونٍmad
And your companion is not [at all] mad
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyرَاٰهُhe saw himبِالْأُفُقِin the horizonالْمُبِينِthe clear
And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon
وَمَاAnd notهُوَhe (is)عَلَىonالْغَيْبِthe unseenبِضَنِينٍa withholder
And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen
وَمَاAnd notهُوَitبِقَوْلِ(is the) wordشَيْطَانٍ(of) Shaitaanرَّجِيمٍaccursed
And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]
فَأَيْنَSo where?تَذْهَبُونَare you going
So where are you going
إِنْNotهُوَitإِلَّا(is) exceptذِكْرٌa reminderلِّلْعَالَمِينَto the worlds
It is not except a reminder to the worlds
لِمَنFor whoeverشَآءَwillsمِنكُمْamong youأَنtoيَسْتَقِيمَtake a straight way
For whoever wills among you to take a right course
وَمَاAnd notتَشَاؤُونَyou willإِلَّآexceptأَنthatيَشَآءَwillsاللهُAllahرَبُّLordالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds
