Surah 78
النبإAn-Naba

بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
عَمَّAbout what?يَتَسَآءَلُونَare they asking one another
About what are they asking one another
عَنِAboutالنَّبَإِthe Newsالْعَظِيمِthe Great
About the great news
الَّذِى(About) whichهُمْtheyفِيهِ(are) concerning itمُخْتَلِفُونَ(in) disagreement
That over which they are in disagreement
كَلَّاNay!سَيَعْلَمُونَ(soon) they will know
No! They are going to know
ثُمَّThenكَلَّاNay!سَيَعْلَمُونَ(soon) they will know
Then, no! They are going to know
أَلَمْHave not?نَجْعَلِWe madeالْأَرْضَthe earthمِهَادًاa resting place
Have We not made the earth a resting place
وَالْجِبَالَAnd the mountainsأَوْتَادًا(as) pegs
And the mountains as stakes
وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْAnd We created youأَزْوَاجًا(in) pairs
And We created you in pairs
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeنَوْمَكُمْyour sleepسُبَاتًا(for) rest
And made your sleep [a means for] rest
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeالَّيْلَthe nightلِبَاسًا(as) covering
And made the night as clothing
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeالنَّهَارَthe dayمَعَاشًا(for) livelihood
And made the day for livelihood
وَبَنَيْنَاAnd We constructedفَوْقَكُمْover youسَبْعًاsevenشِدَادًاstrong
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We placedسِرَاجًاa lampوَهَّاجًاburning
And made [therein] a burning lamp
وَأَنزَلْنَاAnd We sent downمِنَfromالْمُعْصِرَاتِthe rain cloudsمَآءًwaterثَجَّاجًاpouring abundantly
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water
لِّنُخْرِجَThat We may bring forthبِهِۦtherebyحَبًّاgrainوَنَبَاتًاand vegetation
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation
وَجَنَّاتٍAnd gardensأَلْفَافًا(of) thick foliage
And gardens of entwined growth
إِنَّIndeedيَوْمَ(the) Dayالْفَصْلِ(of) the Judgmentكَانَisمِيقَاتًاan appointed time
Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time
يَوْمَ(The) Dayيُنفَخُ(in which) shall be blownفِىinالصُّورِthe trumpetفَتَأْتُونَand you will come forthأَفْوَاجًا(in) crowds
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
وَفُتِحَتِAnd is openedالسَّمَآءُthe heavenفَكَانَتْand becomesأَبْوَابًاgateways
And the heaven is opened and will become gateways
وَسُيِّرَتِAnd are movedالْجِبَالُthe mountainsفَكَانَتْand becomeسَرَابًاa mirage
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage
إِنَّIndeedجَهَنَّمَHellكَانَتْisمِرْصَادًاlying in wait
Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
لِّلْطَّاغِينَFor the transgressorsمَآبًاa place of return
For the transgressors, a place of return
لَابِثِينَ(They will) be remainingفِيهَآthereinأَحْقَابًا(for) ages
In which they will remain for ages [unending]
لَّاNotيَذُوقُونَthey will tasteفِيهَاthereinبَرْدًاcoolnessوَلَاand notشَرَابًاany drink
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink
إِلَّاExceptحَمِيمًاscalding waterوَغَسَّاقًاand purulence
Except scalding water and [foul] purulence
جَزَآءًA recompenseوِفَاقًاappropriate
An appropriate recompense
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُواwereلَاnotيَرْجُونَexpectingحِسَابًاan account
Indeed, they were not expecting an account
وَكَذَّبُواAnd they deniedبِاٰيَاتِنَاOur Signsكِذَّابًا(with) denial
And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial
وَكُلَّAnd everyشَىْءٍthingأَحْصَيْنَاهُWe have enumerated itكِتَابًا(in) a Book
But all things We have enumerated in writing
فَذُوقُواSo tasteفَلَنand neverنَّزِيدَكُمْWe will increase youإِلَّاexceptعَذَابًا(in) punishment
So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment
إِنَّIndeedلِلْمُتَّقِينَfor the righteousمَفَازًا(is) success
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment
حَدَآئِقَGardensوَأَعْنَابًاand grapevines
Gardens and grapevines
وَكَوَاعِبَAnd splendid companionsأَتْرَابًاwell-matched
And full-breasted [companions] of equal age
وَكَأْسًاAnd a cupدِهَاقًاfull
And a full cup
لَّاNotيَسْمَعُونَthey will hearفِيهَاthereinلَغْوًاany vain talkوَلَاand notكِذَّابًاany falsehood
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood
جَزَآءً(As) a rewardمِّنfromرَّبِّكَyour Lordعَطَآءًa giftحِسَابًا(according to) account
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account
رَّبِّLordالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَا(is) between both of themالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousلَاnotيَمْلِكُونَthey have powerمِنْهُfrom Himخِطَابًا(to) address
[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech
يَوْمَ(The) Dayيَقُومُwill standالرُّوحُthe Spiritوَالْمَلَآئِكَةُand the Angelsصَفًّا(in) rowsلَّاnotيَتَكَلَّمُونَthey will speakإِلَّاexceptمَنْ(one) whoأَذِنَpermitsلَهُ[for] himالرَّحْمَٰنُthe Most Graciousوَقَالَand he (will) sayصَوَابًا(what is) correct
The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct
ذَٰلِكَThatالْيَوْمُ(is) the Dayالْحَقُّthe TrueفَمَنSo whoeverشَآءَwillsاتَّخَذَlet him takeإِلَىٰtowardsرَبِّهِۦhis Lordمَآبًاa return
That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return
إِنَّآIndeed Weأَنذَرْنَاكُمْ[We] have warned youعَذَابًا(of) a punishmentقَرِيبًاnearيَوْمَ(the) Dayيَنظُرُwill seeالْمَرْءُthe manمَاwhatقَدَّمَتْhave sent forthيَدَاهُhis handsوَيَقُولُand will sayالْكَافِرُthe disbelieverيَالَيْتَنِىO I wish!كُنتُI wereتُرَابًاdust!
Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust
