Surah 75
القيامةAl-Qiyamah
The Resurrection · 40 verses · 164 words
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
لَآNay!أُقْسِمُI swearبِيَوْمِby (the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) the Resurrection
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
وَلَآAnd nay!أُقْسِمُI swearبِالنَّفْسِby the soulاللَّوَّامَةِself-accusing
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection]
أَيَحْسَبُDoes think?الْإِنسَانُ[the] manأَلَّنthat notنَّجْمَعَWe will assembleعِظَامَهُۥhis bones
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones
بَلَىٰNay!قَادِرِينَ(We are) AbleعَلَىٰٓonأَنthatنُّسَوِّىَWe can restoreبَنَانَهُhis fingertips
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips
بَلْNay!يُرِيدُDesiresالْإِنسَانُ[the] manلِيَفْجُرَto give (the) lieأَمَامَهُۥ(to) what is before him
But man desires to continue in sin
يَسْـَٔلُHe asksأَيَّانَWhen?يَوْمُ(is the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) the Resurrection
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection
فَإِذَاSo whenبَرِقَis dazzledالْبَصَرُthe vision
So when vision is dazzled
وَخَسَفَAnd becomes darkالْقَمَرُthe moon
And the moon darkens
وَجُمِعَAnd are joinedالشَّمْسُthe sunوَالْقَمَرُand the moon
And the sun and the moon are joined
يَقُولُWill sayالْإِنسَانُ[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍthat DayأَيْنَWhere?الْمَفَرُّ(is) the escape
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape
كَلَّاBy no means!لَا(There is) noوَزَرَrefuge
No! There is no refuge
إِلَىٰToرَبِّكَyour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayالْمُسْتَقَرُّ(is) the place of rest
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence
يُنَبَّؤُاWill be informedالْإِنسَانُ[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayبِمَاof whatقَدَّمَhe sent forthوَأَخَّرَand kept back
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back
بَلِNay!الْإِنسَانُ[The] manعَلَىٰagainstنَفْسِهِۦhimselfبَصِيرَةٌ(will be) a witness
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness
وَلَوْEven ifأَلْقَىٰhe presentsمَعَاذِيرَهُۥhis excuses
Even if he presents his excuses
لَاNotتُحَرِّكْmoveبِهِۦwith itلِسَانَكَyour tongueلِتَعْجَلَto hastenبِهِۦٓwith it
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an
إِنَّIndeedعَلَيْنَاupon Usجَمْعَهُۥ(is) its collectionوَقُرْآنَهُۥand its recitation
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation
فَإِذَاAnd whenقَرَأْنَاهُWe have recited itفَاتَّبِعْthen followقُرْآنَهُۥits recitation
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation
ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedعَلَيْنَاupon Usبَيَانَهُۥ(is) its explanation
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]
كَلَّاNo!بَلْButتُحِبُّونَyou loveالْعَاجِلَةَthe immediate
No! But you love the immediate
وَتَذَرُونَAnd leaveالْاٰخِرَةَthe Hereafter
And leave the Hereafter
وُجُوهٌFacesيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayنَّاضِرَةٌ(will be) radiant
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant
إِلَىٰTowardsرَبِّهَاtheir Lordنَاظِرَةٌlooking
Looking at their Lord
وَوُجُوهٌAnd facesيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayبَاسِرَةٌ(will be) distorted
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted
تَظُنُّThinkingأَنthatيُفْعَلَwill be doneبِهَاto themفَاقِرَةٌbackbreaking
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking
كَلَّآNo!إِذَاWhenبَلَغَتِit reachesالتَّرَاقِيَthe collar bones
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
وَقِيلَAnd it is saidمَنْWho?رَاقٍ(will) cure
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]
وَظَنَّAnd he is certainأَنَّهُthat itالْفِرَاقُ(is) the parting
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
وَالْتَفَّتِAnd is woundالسَّاقُthe legبِالسَّاقِabout the leg
And the leg is wound about the leg
إِلَىٰToرَبِّكَyour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayالْمَسَاقُ(will be) the driving
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession
فَلَاAnd notصَدَّقَhe accepted (the) truthوَلَاand notصَلَّىٰhe prayed
And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed
وَلَٰكِنButكَذَّبَhe deniedوَتَوَلَّىٰand turned away
But [instead], he denied and turned away
ثُمَّThenذَهَبَhe wentإِلَىٰٓtoأَهْلِهِۦhis familyيَتَمَطَّىٰٓswaggering
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride]
أَوْلَىٰWoeلَكَto youفَأَوْلَىٰand woe!
Woe to you, and woe
ثُمَّThenأَوْلَىٰwoeلَكَto youفَأَوْلَىٰٓand woe!
Then woe to you, and woe
أَيَحْسَبُDoes think?الْإِنسَانُmanأَنthatيُتْرَكَhe will be leftسُدًىneglected
Does man think that he will be left neglected
أَلَمْWas not?يَكُheنُطْفَةًa semen-dropمِّنofمَّنِىٍّۢsemenيُمْنَىٰemitted
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted
ثُمَّThenكَانَhe wasعَلَقَةًa clinging substanceفَخَلَقَthen He createdفَسَوَّىٰand proportioned
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
فَجَعَلَThen madeمِنْهُof himالزَّوْجَيْنِtwo kindsالذَّكَرَ(the) maleوَالْأُنثَىٰٓand the female
And made of him two mates, the male and the female
أَلَيْسَIs not?ذَٰلِكَ[that]بِقَادِرٍ(He) Ableعَلَىٰٓ[over]أَنtoيُحْيِىَgive lifeالْمَوْتَىٰ(to) the dead
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead
