Surah 71

بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
إِنَّآIndeed Weأَرْسَلْنَا[We] sentنُوحًاNuhإِلَىٰtoقَوْمِهِۦٓhis peopleأَنْthatأَنذِرْWarnقَوْمَكَyour peopleمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]يَأْتِيَهُمْcomes to themعَذَابٌa punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment
قَالَHe saidيَاقَوْمِO my people!إِنِّىIndeed I amلَكُمْto youنَذِيرٌa warnerمُّبِينٌclear
He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner
أَنِThatاعْبُدُواْWorshipاللهَAllahوَاتَّقُوهُand fear Himوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me
[Saying], 'Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me
يَغْفِرْHe will forgiveلَكُمfor youمِّن[of]ذُنُوبِكُمْyour sinsوَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْand give you respiteإِلَىٰٓforأَجَلٍa termمُّسَمًّىspecifiedإِنَّIndeedأَجَلَ(the) termاللهِ(of) Allahإِذَاwhenجَآءَit comesلَاnotيُؤَخَّرُis delayedلَوْifكُنتُمْyouتَعْلَمُونَknow
Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew
قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lord!إِنِّىIndeed IدَعَوْتُI invitedقَوْمِىmy peopleلَيْلًاnightوَنَهَارًاand day
He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day
فَلَمْBut notيَزِدْهُمْincreased themدُعَآئِىٓmy invitationإِلَّاexceptفِرَارًا(in) flight
But my invitation increased them not except in flight
وَإِنِّىAnd indeed Iكُلَّمَاevery timeدَعَوْتُهُمْI invited themلِتَغْفِرَthat You may forgiveلَهُمْthemجَعَلُوٓاthey putأَصَابِعَهُمْtheir fingersفِىٓinاٰذَانِهِمْtheir earsوَاسْتَغْشَوْاand covered themselvesثِيَابَهُمْ(with) their garmentsوَأَصَرُّواand persistedوَاسْتَكْبَرُواand were arrogantاسْتِكْبَارًا(with) pride
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance
ثُمَّThenإِنِّىindeed IدَعَوْتُهُمْI invited themجِهَارًاpublicly
Then I invited them publicly
ثُمَّThenإِنِّىٓindeed IأَعْلَنتُI announcedلَهُمْto themوَأَسْرَرْتُand I confidedلَهُمْto themإِسْرَارًاsecretly
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
فَقُلْتُThen I saidاسْتَغْفِرُواْAsk forgivenessرَبَّكُمْ(from) your LordإِنَّهُۥIndeed HeكَانَisغَفَّارًاOft-Forgiving
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver
يُرْسِلِHe will send downالسَّمَآءَ(rain from) the skyعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّدْرَارًا(in) abundance
He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers
وَيُمْدِدْكُمْAnd provide youبِأَمْوَالٍwith wealthوَبَنِينَand childrenوَيَجْعَلand makeلَّكُمْfor youجَنَّاتٍgardensوَيَجْعَلand makeلَّكُمْfor youأَنْهَارًاrivers
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers
مَّاWhat?لَكُمْ(is) for youلَاnotتَرْجُونَyou attributeلِلّٰهِto Allahوَقَارًاgrandeur
What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur
وَقَدْAnd indeedخَلَقَكُمْHe created youأَطْوَارًا(in) stages
While He has created you in stages
أَلَمْDo not?تَرَوْاyou seeكَيْفَhow?خَلَقَdid createاللهُAllahسَبْعَ(the) sevenسَمَاوَاتٍheavensطِبَاقًا(in) layers
Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers
وَجَعَلَAnd madeالْقَمَرَthe moonفِيهِنَّthereinنُورًاa lightوَجَعَلَand madeالشَّمْسَthe sunسِرَاجًاa lamp
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp
وَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahأَنبَتَكُمhas caused you to growمِّنَfromالْأَرْضِthe earthنَبَاتًا(as) a growth
And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth
ثُمَّThenيُعِيدُكُمْHe will return youفِيهَاinto itوَيُخْرِجُكُمْand bring you forthإِخْرَاجًا(a new) bringing forth
Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction
وَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youالْأَرْضَthe earthبِسَاطًاan expanse
And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse
لِّتَسْلُكُواThat you may go alongمِنْهَاthereinسُبُلًا(in) pathsفِجَاجًاwide
That you may follow therein roads of passage
قَالَSaidنُوحٌNuhرَّبِّMy Lord!إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyعَصَوْنِىdisobeyed meوَاتَّبَعُواand followedمَن(the one) whoلَّمْ(did) notيَزِدْهُincrease himمَالُهُۥhis wealthوَوَلَدُهُand his childrenإِلَّاexceptخَسَارًا(in) loss
Noah said, "My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss
وَمَكَرُواAnd they have plannedمَكْرًاa planكُبَّارًاgreat
And they conspired an immense conspiracy
وَقَالُواAnd they saidلَا(Do) notتَذَرُنَّleaveاٰلِهَتَكُمْyour godsوَلَاand (do) notتَذَرُنَّleaveوَدًّاWaddوَلَاand notسُوَاعًاSuwaوَلَاand notيَغُوثَYaguthوَيَعُوقَand Yauqوَنَسْرًاand Nasr
And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa' or Yaghuth and Ya'uq and Nasr
وَقَدْAnd indeedأَضَلُّواthey have led astrayكَثِيرًاmanyوَلَاAnd notتَزِدِincreaseالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoersإِلَّاexceptضَلَالًا(in) error
And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error
مِّمَّآBecause ofخَطِيٓئَاتِهِمْtheir sinsأُغْرِقُواthey were drownedفَأُدْخِلُواthen made to enterنَارًا(the) Fireفَلَمْand notيَجِدُواthey foundلَهُمfor themselvesمِّنfromدُونِbesidesاللهِAllahأَنصَارًاany helpers
Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allah [any] helpers
وَقَالَAnd saidنُوحٌNuhرَّبِّMy Lord!لَا(Do) notتَذَرْleaveعَلَىonالْأَرْضِthe earthمِنَanyالْكَافِرِينَ(of) the disbelieversدَيَّارًا(as) an inhabitant
And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant
إِنَّكَIndeed YouإِنifتَذَرْهُمْYou leave themيُضِلُّواthey will misleadعِبَادَكَYour slavesوَلَاand notيَلِدُوٓاthey will begetإِلَّاexceptفَاجِرًاa wickedكَفَّارًاa disbeliever
Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever
رَّبِّMy Lord!اغْفِرْForgiveلِىmeوَلِوَالِدَىَّand my parentsوَلِمَنand whoeverدَخَلَentersبَيْتِىَmy houseمُؤْمِنًاa believerوَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَand the believing menوَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِand the believing womenوَلَاAnd (do) notتَزِدِincreaseالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoersإِلَّاexceptتَبَارًا(in) destruction
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction
