Surah 72
الجنAl-Jinn
The Jinn · 28 verses · 285 words
بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
قُلْSayأُوحِىَIt has been revealedإِلَىَّto meأَنَّهُthatاسْتَمَعَlistenedنَفَرٌa groupمِّنَofالْجِنِّthe jinnفَقَالُوٓاand they saidإِنَّاIndeed weسَمِعْنَاheardقُرْآنًاa Quranعَجَبًاamazing
Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an
يَهْدِىٓIt guidesإِلَىtoالرُّشْدِthe right wayفَـَٔامَنَّاso we believeبِهِۦin itوَلَنand neverنُّشْرِكَwe will associateبِرَبِّنَآwith our Lordأَحَدًاanyone
It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone
وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that HeتَعَالَىExalted isجَدُّ(the) Majestyرَبِّنَا(of) our LordمَاnotاتَّخَذَHe has takenصَاحِبَةًa wifeوَلَاand notوَلَدًاa son
And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son
وَأَنَّهُۥAnd that heكَانَused toيَقُولُspeakسَفِيهُنَاthe foolish among usعَلَىagainstاللهِAllahشَطَطًاan excessive transgression
And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression
وَأَنَّاAnd that weظَنَنَّآthoughtأَنthatلَّنneverتَقُولَwill sayالْإِنسُthe menوَالْجِنُّand the jinnعَلَىagainstاللهِAllahكَذِبًاany lie
And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie
وَأَنَّهُۥAnd thatكَانَ(there) wereرِجَالٌmenمِّنَamongالْإِنسِmankindيَعُوذُونَwho sought refugeبِرِجَالٍin (the) menمِّنَfromالْجِنِّthe jinnفَزَادُوهُمْso they increased themرَهَقًا(in) burden
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden
وَأَنَّهُمْAnd that theyظَنُّواthoughtكَمَاasظَنَنتُمْyou thoughtأَنthatلَّنneverيَبْعَثَwill raiseاللهُAllahأَحَدًاanyone
And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger]
وَأَنَّاAnd that weلَمَسْنَاsought to touchالسَّمَآءَthe heavenفَوَجَدْنَاهَاbut we found itمُلِئَتْfilled (with)حَرَسًاguardsشَدِيدًاsevereوَشُهُبًاand flaming fires
And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames
وَأَنَّاAnd that weكُنَّاused toنَقْعُدُsitمِنْهَاthere inمَقَاعِدَpositionsلِلسَّمْعِfor hearingفَمَنbut (he) whoيَسْتَمِعِlistensالْاٰنَnowيَجِدْwill findلَهُۥfor himشِهَابًاa flaming fireرَّصَدًاwaiting
And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him
وَأَنَّاAnd that weلَاnotنَدْرِىٓwe knowأَشَرٌّwhether evil?أُرِيدَis intendedبِمَنfor (those) whoفِى(are) inالْأَرْضِthe earthأَمْorأَرَادَintendsبِهِمْfor themرَبُّهُمْtheir Lordرَشَدًاa right path
And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course
وَأَنَّاAnd that [we]مِنَّاamong usالصَّالِحُونَ(are) the righteousوَمِنَّاand among usدُونَ(are) other thanذَٰلِكَthatكُنَّاWeطَرَآئِقَ(are on) waysقِدَدًاdifferent
And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways
وَأَنَّاAnd that weظَنَنَّآ[we] have become certainأَنthatلَّنneverنُّعجِزَwe will cause failureاللهَ(to) Allahفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthوَلَنand neverنُّعْجِزَهُۥwe can escape Himهَرَبًا(by) flight
And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight
وَأَنَّاAnd that [we]لَمَّاwhenسَمِعْنَاwe heardالْهُدَىٰٓthe Guidanceاٰمَنَّاwe believedبِهِۦin itفَمَنAnd whoeverيُؤْمِنbelievesبِرَبِّهِۦin his Lordفَلَاthen notيَخَافُhe will fearبَخْسًاany lossوَلَاand notرَهَقًاany burden
And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden
وَأَنَّاAnd that weمِنَّاamong usالْمُسْلِمُونَ(are) Muslimsوَمِنَّاand among usالْقَٰسِطُونَ(are) unjustفَمَنْAnd whoeverأَسْلَمَsubmitsفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseتَحَرَّوْاhave soughtرَشَدًا(the) right path
And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course
وَأَمَّاAnd as forالْقَٰسِطُونَthe unjustفَكَانُواthey will beلِجَهَنَّمَfor Hellحَطَبًاfirewood
But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood
وَأَلَّوِAnd that ifاسْتَقَامُواْthey had remainedعَلَىonالطَّرِيقَةِthe Wayلَأَسْقَيْنَاهُمsurely We (would) have given them to drinkمَّآءًwaterغَدَقًا(in) abundance
And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision
لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْThat We might test themفِيهِthereinوَمَنAnd whoeverيُعْرِضْturns awayعَنfromذِكْرِthe Remembranceرَبِّهِۦ(of) his LordيَسْلُكْهُHe will make him enterعَذَابًاa punishmentصَعَدًاsevere
So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment
وَأَنَّAnd thatالْمَسَاجِدَthe masjidsلِلّٰهِ(are) for Allahفَلَاso (do) notتَدْعُواcallمَعَwithاللهِAllahأَحَدًاanyone
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone
وَأَنَّهُۥAnd thatلَمَّاwhenقَامَstood upعَبْدُ(the) slaveاللهِ(of) Allahيَدْعُوهُcalling (upon) Himكَادُواthey almostيَكُونُونَbecameعَلَيْهِaround himلِبَدًاa compacted mass
And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass
قُلْSayإِنَّمَآOnlyأَدْعُوٓاI call uponرَبِّىmy Lordوَلَآand notأُشْرِكُI associateبِهِۦٓwith Himأَحَدًاanyone
Say, [O Muhammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone
قُلْSayإِنِّىIndeed Iلَآ(do) notأَمْلِكُI possessلَكُمْfor youضَرًّاany harmوَلَاand notرَشَدًاright path
Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction
قُلْSayإِنِّىIndeed Iلَنneverيُجِيرَنِىcan protect meمِنَfromاللهِAllahأَحَدٌanyoneوَلَنْand neverأَجِدَcan I findمِنfromدُونِهِۦbesides Himمُلْتَحَدًاany refuge
Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge
إِلَّاButبَلَاغًا(the) notificationمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَرِسَالَاتِهِۦand His MessagesوَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْصِdisobeysاللهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerفَإِنَّthen indeedلَهُۥfor himنَارَ(is the) Fireجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellخَالِدِينَ(they will) abideفِيهَآthereinأَبَدًاforever
But [I have for you] only notification from Allah, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever
حَتَّىٰٓUntilإِذَاwhenرَأَوْاthey seeمَاwhatيُوعَدُونَthey are promisedفَسَيَعْلَمُونَthen they will knowمَنْwho?أَضْعَفُ(is) weakerنَاصِرًا(in) helpersوَأَقَلُّand fewerعَدَدًا(in) number
[The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number
قُلْSayإِنْNotأَدْرِىٓI knowأَقَرِيبٌwhether is near?مَّاwhatتُوعَدُونَyou are promisedأَمْor (whether)يَجْعَلُwill appointلَهُۥfor itرَبِّىٓmy Lordأَمَدًاa (distant) term
Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period
عَالِمُ(The) All-Knowerالْغَيْبِ(of) the unseenفَلَاso notيُظْهِرُHe revealsعَلَىٰfromغَيْبِهِۦٓHis unseenأَحَدًا(to) anyone
[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone
إِلَّاExceptمَنِwhomارْتَضَىٰHe has approvedمِنofرَّسُولٍa Messengerفَإِنَّهُۥand indeed Heيَسْلُكُmakes to marchمِنfromبَيْنِbetween (before him)يَدَيْهِhis hands (before him)وَمِنْand fromخَلْفِهِۦbehind himرَصَدًاa guard
Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers
لِّيَعْلَمَThat He may make evidentأَنthatقَدْindeedأَبْلَغُواthey have conveyedرِسَالَاتِ(the) Messagesرَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lordوَأَحَاطَand He has encompassedبِمَاwhatلَدَيْهِمْ(is) with themوَأَحْصَىٰand He takes accountكُلَّ(of) allشَىْءٍthingsعَدَدًا(in) number
That he may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number
