بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
وَالصَّافَّاتِBy those linedصَفًّا(in) rows
By those [angels] lined up in rows
فَالزَّاجِرَاتِAnd those who driveزَجْرًاstrongly
And those who drive [the clouds]
فَالتَّالِيَاتِAnd those who reciteذِكْرًا(the) Message
And those who recite the message
إِنَّIndeedإِلَٰهَكُمْyour Lordلَوَاحِدٌ(is) surely One
Indeed, your God is One
رَّبُّLordالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whatبَيْنَهُمَا(is) between both of themوَرَبُّand Lordالْمَشَارِقِ(of) each point of sunrise
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises
إِنَّاIndeed Weزَيَّنَّا[We] adornedالسَّمَآءَthe skyالدُّنْيَا[the world]بِزِينَةٍwith an adornmentالْكَوَاكِبِ(of) the stars
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
وَحِفْظًاAnd (to) guardمِّنagainstكُلِّeveryشَيْطَانٍdevilمَّارِدٍrebellious
And as protection against every rebellious devil
لَّاNotيَسَّمَّعُونَthey may listenإِلَىtoالْمَلَإِthe assemblyالْأَعْلَىٰ[the] exaltedوَيُقْذَفُونَare peltedمِنfromكُلِّeveryجَانِبٍside
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side
دُحُورًاRepelledوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentوَاصِبٌperpetual
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment
إِلَّاExceptمَنْ(him) whoخَطِفَsnatchesالْخَطْفَةَ(by) theftفَأَتْبَعَهُۥbut follows himشِهَابٌa burning flameثَاقِبٌpiercing
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْThen ask themأَهُمْAre they?أَشَدُّa strongerخَلْقًاcreationأَمorمَّنْ(those) whomخَلَقْنَآWe have createdإِنَّاIndeed Weخَلَقْنَاهُمcreated themمِّنfromطِينٍa clayلَّازِبٍsticky
Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay
بَلْNayعَجِبْتَyou wonderوَيَسْخَرُونَwhile they mock
But you wonder, while they mock
وَإِذَاAnd whenذُكِّرُواthey are remindedلَاnotيَذْكُرُونَthey receive admonition
And when they are reminded, they remember not
وَإِذَاAnd whenرَأَوْاthey seeاٰيَةًa Signيَسْتَسْخِرُونَthey mock
And when they see a sign, they ridicule
وَقَالُواAnd they sayإِنْNotهَٰذَآ(is) thisإِلَّاexceptسِحْرٌa magicمُّبِينٌclear
And say, "This is not but obvious magic
أَئِذَاIs it when?مِتْنَاwe are deadوَكُنَّاand have becomeتُرَابًاdustوَعِظَامًاand bonesأَءِنَّاshall we then?لَمَبْعُوثُونَbe certainly resurrected
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected
أَوَاٰبَآؤُنَاOr our fathers?الْأَوَّلُونَformer
And our forefathers [as well]
قُلْSayنَعَمْYesوَأَنتُمْand youدَاخِرُونَ(will be) humiliated
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible
فَإِنَّمَاThen onlyهِىَitزَجْرَةٌ(will be) a cryوَاحِدَةٌsingleفَإِذَاthen behold!هُمْTheyيَنظُرُونَwill see
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing
وَقَالُواAnd they will sayيَاوَيْلَنَآO woe to us!هَٰذَاThisيَوْمُ(is the) Dayالدِّينِ(of) the Recompense
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense
هَٰذَاThisيَوْمُ(is the) Dayالْفَصْلِ(of) Judgmentالَّذِىwhichكُنتُمْyou used toبِهِۦ[of it]تُكَذِّبُونَdeny
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny
احْشُرُواْGatherالَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُواwrongedوَأَزْوَاجَهُمْand their kindsوَمَاand whatكَانُواthey used (to)يَعْبُدُونَworship
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
مِنfromدُونِBesidesاللهِAllahفَاهْدُوهُمْthen lead themإِلَىٰtoصِرَاطِ(the) Pathالْجَحِيمِ(of) the Hellfire
Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
وَقِفُوهُمْAnd stop themإِنَّهُمindeed theyمَّسْئُولُونَ(are) to be questioned
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned
مَاWhat?لَكُمْ(is) for youلَا(Why) notتَنَاصَرُونَyou help one another
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other
بَلْNayهُمُtheyالْيَوْمَ(on) that Dayمُسْتَسْلِمُونَ(will) surrender
But they, that Day, are in surrender
وَأَقْبَلَAnd will approachبَعْضُهُمْsome of themعَلَىٰtoبَعْضٍothersيَتَسَآءَلُونَquestioning one another
And they will approach one another blaming each other
قَالُوٓاْThey will sayإِنَّكُمْIndeed youكُنتُمْ[you] used (to)تَأْتُونَنَاcome (to) usعَنِfromالْيَمِينِthe right
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right
قَالُواْThey will sayبَلNayلَّمْnotتَكُونُواyou wereمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers
The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers
وَمَاAnd notكَانَwasلَنَاfor usعَلَيْكُمover youمِّنanyسُلْطَانٍauthorityبَلْNayكُنتُمْyou wereقَوْمًاa peopleطَاغِينَtransgressing
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people
فَحَقَّSo has been proved trueعَلَيْنَاagainst usقَوْلُ(the) Wordرَبِّنَآ(of) our Lordإِنَّاindeed weلَذَائِقُونَ(will) certainly taste
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]
فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْSo we led you astrayإِنَّاindeed weكُنَّاwereغَاوِينَastray
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators
فَإِنَّهُمْThen indeed theyيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayفِىinالْعَذَابِthe punishmentمُشْتَرِكُونَ(will be) sharers
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment
إِنَّاIndeed WeكَذَٰلِكَthusنَفْعَلُWe dealبِالْمُجْرِمِينَwith the criminals
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُوٓاwereإِذَاwhenقِيلَit was saidلَهُمْto themلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللهُAllahيَسْتَكْبِرُونَwere arrogant
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayأَئِنَّاAre we?لَتَارِكُوٓاto leaveاٰلِهَتِنَاour godsلِشَاعِرٍfor a poetمَّجْنُونٍmad
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet
بَلْNayجَآءَhe has broughtبِالْحَقِّthe truthوَصَدَّقَand confirmedالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers
إِنَّكُمْIndeed youلَذَائِقُوا(will) surely tasteالْعَذَابِthe punishmentالْأَلِيمِpainful
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment
وَمَاAnd notتُجْزَوْنَyou will be recompensedإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatكُنتُمْyou used toتَعْمَلُونَdo
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do
إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَ(the) slavesاللهِ(of) Allahالْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen ones
But not the chosen servants of Allah
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themرِزْقٌ(will be) a provisionمَّعْلُومٌdetermined
Those will have a provision determined
فَوَاكِهُFruitsوَهُمand theyمُّكْرَمُونَ(will) be honored
Fruits; and they will be honored
فِىInجَنَّاتِGardensالنَّعِيمِ(of) Delight
In gardens of pleasure
عَلَىٰOnسُرُرٍthronesمُّتَقَابِلِينَfacing each other
On thrones facing one another
يُطَافُWill be circulatedعَلَيْهِمamong themبِكَأْسٍa cupمِّنْfromمَّعِينٍa flowing spring
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring
بَيْضَآءَWhiteلَذَّةٍdeliciousلِّلشَّارِبِينَfor the drinkers
White and delicious to the drinkers
لَاNotفِيهَاin itغَوْلٌ(is) bad effectوَلَاand notهُمْtheyعَنْهَاfrom itيُنزَفُونَwill be intoxicated
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated
وَعِندَهُمْAnd with themقَاصِرَاتُ(will be) companions ofالطَّرْفِmodest gazeعِينٌ(having) beautiful eyes
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes
كَأَنَّهُنَّAs if they wereبَيْضٌeggsمَّكْنُونٌwell protected
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected
فَأَقْبَلَAnd (will) approachبَعْضُهُمْsome of themعَلَىٰtoبَعْضٍothersيَتَسَآءَلُونَquestioning one another
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other
قَالَWill sayقَآئِلٌa speakerمِّنْهُمْamong themإِنِّىIndeed Iكَانَhadلِىfor meقَرِينٌa companion
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
يَقُولُWho (would) sayأَءِنَّكَAre you indeed?لَمِنَsurely ofالْمُصَدِّقِينَthose who believe
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
أَئِذَاIs (it) when?مِتْنَاwe have diedوَكُنَّاand becomeتُرَابًاdustوَعِظَامًاand bonesأَءِنَّاwill we?لَمَدِينُونَsurely be brought to Judgment
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed
قَالَHe (will) sayهَلْWill?أَنتُمyouمُّطَّلِعُونَbe looking
He will say, "Would you [care to] look
فَاطَّلَعَThen he (will) lookفَرَآهُand see himفِىinسَوَآءِ(the) midstالْجَحِيمِ(of) the Hellfire
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire
قَالَHe (will) sayتَاللّٰهِBy Allahإِنverilyكِدتَّyou almostلَتُرْدِينِruined me
He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me
وَلَوْلَاAnd if notنِعْمَةُ(for the) Graceرَبِّى(of) my Lordلَكُنتُcertainly I (would) have beenمِنَamongالْمُحْضَرِينَthose brought
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]
أَفَمَاThen are not?نَحْنُweبِمَيِّتِينَ(to) die
Then, are we not to die
إِلَّاExceptمَوْتَتَنَاour deathالْأُولَىٰthe firstوَمَاand notنَحْنُweبِمُعَذَّبِينَwill be punished
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished
إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَهُوَsurelyالْفَوْزُ(is) the attainmentالْعَظِيمُgreat
Indeed, this is the great attainment
لِمِثْلِFor (the) likeهَٰذَا(of) thisفَلْيَعْمَلِlet workالْعَامِلُونَthe workers
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work
أَذَلِكَIs that?خَيْرٌbetterنُّزُلًا(as) hospitalityأَمْorشَجَرَةُ(the) treeالزَّقُّومِ(of) Zaqqum
Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum
إِنَّاIndeed Weجَعَلْنَاهَا[We] have made itفِتْنَةًa trialلِّلظَّالِمِينَfor the wrongdoers
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers
إِنَّهَاIndeed itشَجَرَةٌ(is) a treeتَخْرُجُthat growsفِىٓinأَصْلِ(the) bottomالْجَحِيمِ(of) the Hellfire
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire
طَلْعُهَاIts emerging fruitكَأَنَّهُۥ(is) as if itرُءُوسُ(was) headsالشَّيَاطِينِ(of) the devils
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils
فَإِنَّهُمْAnd indeed theyلَآكِلُونَ(will) surely eatمِنْهَاfrom itفَمَالِئُونَand fillمِنْهَاwith itالْبُطُونَ(their) bellies
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies
ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedلَهُمْfor themعَلَيْهَاin itلَشَوْبًا(is) a mixtureمِّنْofحَمِيمٍboiling water
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water
ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedمَرْجِعَهُمْtheir returnلَإِلَى(will) surely be toالْجَحِيمِthe Hellfire
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyأَلْفَوْاfoundاٰبَآءَهُمْtheir fathersضَآلِّينَastray
Indeed they found their fathers astray
فَهُمْSo theyعَلَىٰٓonاٰثَارِهِمْtheir footstepsيُهْرَعُونَthey hastened
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyضَلَّwent astrayقَبْلَهُمْbefore themأَكْثَرُmostالْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentفِيهِمamong themمُّنذِرِينَwarners
And We had already sent among them warners
فَانظُرْThen seeكَيْفَhow?كَانَwasعَاقِبَةُ(the) endالْمُنذَرِينَ(of) those who were warned
Then look how was the end of those who were warned
إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَ(the) slavesاللهِ(of) Allahالْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen ones
But not the chosen servants of Allah
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyنَادَانَاcalled UsنُوحٌNuhفَلَنِعْمَand Bestالْمُجِيبُونَ(are We as) Responders!
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُAnd We saved himوَأَهْلَهُۥand his familyمِنَfromالْكَرْبِthe distressالْعَظِيمِthe great
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeذُرِّيَّتَهُۥhis offspringهُمْ[they]الْبَاقِينَthe survivors
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
وَتَرَكْنَاAnd We leftعَلَيْهِfor himفِىamongالْاٰخِرِينَthe later generations
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
سَلَامٌPeace beعَلَىٰuponنُوحٍNuhفِىamongالْعَالَمِينَthe worlds
Peace upon Noah among the worlds
إِنَّاIndeed Weكَذَٰلِكَthusنَجْزِى[We] rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
إِنَّهُۥIndeed heمِنْ(was) ofعِبَادِنَاOur slavesالْمُؤْمِنِينَbelieving
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
ثُمَّThenأَغْرَقْنَاWe drownedالْاٰخَرِينَthe others
Then We drowned the disbelievers
وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنamongشِيعَتِهِۦhis kindلَإِبْرَاهِيمَ(was) surely Ibrahim
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham
إِذْWhenجَآءَhe cameرَبَّهُۥ(to) his Lordبِقَلْبٍwith a heartسَلِيمٍsound
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
إِذْWhenقَالَhe saidلِأَبِيهِto his fatherوَقَوْمِهِۦand his peopleمَاذَاWhat is it?تَعْبُدُونَyou worship
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship
أَئِفْكًاIs it falsehood?اٰلِهَةًgodsدُونَother thanاللهِAllahتُرِيدُونَ(that) you desire
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire
فَمَاThen what?ظَنُّكُم(do) you thinkبِرَبِّabout (the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds
فَنَظَرَThen he glancedنَظْرَةًa glanceفِىatالنُّجُومِthe stars
And he cast a look at the stars
فَقَالَAnd he saidإِنِّىIndeed I amسَقِيمٌsick
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill
فَتَوَلَّوْاSo they turned awayعَنْهُfrom himمُدْبِرِينَdeparting
So they turned away from him, departing
فَرَاغَThen he turnedإِلَىٰٓtoاٰلِهَتِهِمْtheir godsفَقَالَand saidأَلَاDo not?تَأْكُلُونَyou eat
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat
مَاWhat (is)?لَكُمْfor youلَاnotتَنطِقُونَyou speak
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak
فَرَاغَThen he turnedعَلَيْهِمْupon themضَرْبًاstrikingبِالْيَمِينِwith the right hand
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand
فَأَقْبَلُوٓاThen they advancedإِلَيْهِtowards himيَزِفُّونَhastening
Then the people came toward him, hastening
قَالَHe saidأَتَعْبُدُونَDo you worship?مَاwhatتَنْحِتُونَyou carve
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve
وَٱللّٰهُWhile Allahخَلَقَكُمْcreated youوَمَاand whatتَعْمَلُونَyou make
While Allah created you and that which you do
قَالُواْThey saidابْنُواْBuildلَهُۥfor himبُنْيَانًاa structureفَأَلْقُوهُand throw himفِىintoالْجَحِيمِthe blazing Fire
They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire
فَأَرَادُواAnd they intendedبِهِۦfor himكَيْدًاa plotفَجَعَلْنَاهُمُbut We made themالْأَسْفَلِينَthe lowest
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased
وَقَالَAnd he saidإِنِّىIndeed I amذَاهِبٌgoingإِلَىٰtoرَبِّىmy LordسَيَهْدِينِHe will guide me
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me
رَبِّMy Lordهَبْgrantلِىmeمِنَofالصَّالِحِينَthe righteous
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous
فَبَشَّرْنَاهُSo We gave him the glad tidingsبِغُلَامٍof a boyحَلِيمٍforbearing
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy
فَلَمَّاThen whenبَلَغَhe reachedمَعَهُwith himالسَّعْىَthe (age of) workingقَالَhe saidيَابُنَىَّO my son!إِنِّىٓIndeed Iأَرَىٰhave seenفِىinالْمَنَامِthe dreamأَنِّىٓthat I amأَذْبَحُكَI sacrificing youفَانظُرْso lookمَاذَاwhat?تَرَىyou seeقَالَHe saidيَاأَبَتِO my father!افْعَلْDoمَاwhatتُؤْمَرُyou are commandedسَتَجِدُنِىٓYou will find meإِنifشَآءَwillsاللهُAllahمِنَofالصَّابِرِينَthe patient ones
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast
فَلَمَّآThen whenأَسْلَمَاboth of them had submittedوَتَلَّهُۥand he put him downلِلْجَبِينِupon his forehead
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead
وَنَادَيْنَاهُAnd We called out to himأَنthatيَاإِبْرَاهِيمُO Ibrahim!
We called to him, "O Abraham
قَدْVerilyصَدَّقْتَyou have fulfilledالرُّؤْيَاthe visionإِنَّاIndeed Weكَذَٰلِكَthusنَجْزِى[We] rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَهُوَ(was) surely [it]الْبَلَٰٓؤُاthe trialالْمُبِينُclear
Indeed, this was the clear trial
وَفَدَيْنَاهُAnd We ransomed himبِذِبْحٍwith a sacrificeعَظِيمٍgreat
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice
وَتَرَكْنَاAnd We leftعَلَيْهِfor himفِىamongالْاٰخِرِينَthe later generations
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
سَلَامٌPeace beعَلَىٰٓonإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahim
Peace upon Abraham
كَذَٰلِكَThusنَجْزِىWe rewardالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
إِنَّهُۥIndeed he (was)مِنْofعِبَادِنَاOur slavesالْمُؤْمِنِينَbelieving
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
وَبَشَّرْنَاهُAnd We gave him glad tidingsبِإِسْحٰقَof Isaacنَبِيًّاa Prophetمِّنَamongالصَّالِحِينَthe righteous
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous
وَبَارَكْنَاAnd We blessedعَلَيْهِhimوَعَلَىٰٓand [on]إِسْحَٰقَIsaacوَمِنAnd ofذُرِّيَّتِهِمَاboth's offspringمُحْسِنٌ(are) good-doersوَظَالِمٌand unjustلِّنَفْسِهِto himselfمُبِينٌclear
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyمَنَنَّاWe conferred FavorعَلَىٰuponمُوسَىٰMusaوَهَارُونَand Harun
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَاAnd We saved both of themوَقَوْمَهُمَاand their two nationsمِنَfromالْكَرْبِthe distressالْعَظِيمِthe great
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction
وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْAnd We helped themفَكَانُواso becameهُمُtheyالْغَالِبِينَthe victors
And We supported them so it was they who overcame
وَآتَيْنَاهُمَاAnd We gave both of themالْكِتَابَthe Bookالْمُسْتَبِينَthe clear
And We gave them the explicit Scripture
وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَاAnd We guided both of themالصِّرَاطَ(to) the Pathالْمُسْتَقِيمَthe Straight
And We guided them on the straight path
وَتَرَكْنَاAnd We leftعَلَيْهِمَاfor both of themفِىamongالْاٰخِرِينَthe later generations
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations
سَلَامٌPeace beعَلَىٰuponمُوسَىٰMusaوَهَارُونَand Harun
Peace upon Moses and Aaron
إِنَّاIndeed Weكَذَٰلِكَthusنَجْزِىrewardالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
إِنَّهُمَاIndeed both of themمِنْ(were) ofعِبَادِنَاOur slavesالْمُؤْمِنِينَbelieving
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants
وَإِنَّAnd indeedإِلْيَاسَElijahلَمِنَ(was) surely ofالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers
إِذْWhenقَالَhe saidلِقَوْمِهِۦٓto his peopleأَلَاWill not?تَتَّقُونَyou fear
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah
أَتَدْعُونَDo you call?بَعْلًاBaalوَتَذَرُونَand you forsakeأَحْسَنَ(the) Bestالْخَالِقِينَ(of) Creators
Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators
اللهَAllahرَبَّكُمْyour Lordوَرَبَّand (the) Lordاٰبَآئِكُمُ(of) your forefathersالْأَوَّلِينَformers, the old
Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers
فَكَذَّبُوهُBut they denied himفَإِنَّهُمْso indeed theyلَمُحْضَرُونَ(will) surely be brought
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment]
إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَ(the) slavesاللهِ(of) Allahالْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen ones
Except the chosen servants of Allah
وَتَرَكْنَاAnd We leftعَلَيْهِfor himفِىamongالْاٰخِرِينَthe later generations
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
سَلَامٌPeace beعَلَىٰٓuponإِلْيَاسِينَElijah
Peace upon Elias
إِنَّاIndeed Weكَذَٰلِكَthusنَجْزِىrewardالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
إِنَّهُۥIndeed he (was)مِنْofعِبَادِنَاOur slavesالْمُؤْمِنِينَbelieving
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants
وَإِنَّAnd indeedلُوطًاLutلَّمِنَ(was) ofالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers
إِذْWhenنَجَّيْنَاهُWe saved himوَأَهْلَهُۥٓand his familyأَجْمَعِينَall
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all
إِلَّاExceptعَجُوزًاan old womanفِى(was) amongالْغَابِرِينَthose who remained behind
Except his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers]
ثُمَّThenدَمَّرْنَاWe destroyedالْاٰخَرِينَthe others
Then We destroyed the others
وَإِنَّكُمْAnd indeed youلَتَمُرُّونَsurely passعَلَيْهِمby themمُّصْبِحِينَ(in the) morning
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
وَبِالَّيْلِAnd at nightأَفَلَاThen will not?تَعْقِلُونَyou use reason
And at night. Then will you not use reason
وَإِنَّAnd indeedيُونُسَYunusلَمِنَ(was) surely ofالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers
إِذْWhenأَبَقَhe ran awayإِلَىtoالْفُلْكِthe shipالْمَشْحُونِladen
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship
فَسَاهَمَThen he drew lotsفَكَانَand wasمِنَofالْمُدْحَضِينَthe losers
And he drew lots and was among the losers
فَالْتَقَمَهُThen swallowed himالْحُوتُthe fishوَهُوَwhile heمُلِيمٌ(was) blameworthy
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy
فَلَوْلَآAnd if notأَنَّهُۥthat heكَانَwasمِنَofالْمُسَبِّحِينَthose who glorify
And had he not been of those who exalt Allah
لَلَبِثَCertainly he (would have) remainedفِىinبَطْنِهِۦٓits bellyإِلَىٰuntilيَوْمِthe Dayيُبْعَثُونَthey are resurrected
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected
فَنَبَذْنَاهُBut We cast himبِالْعَرَآءِonto the open shoreوَهُوَwhile heسَقِيمٌ(was) ill
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill
وَأَنبَتْنَاAnd We caused to growعَلَيْهِover himشَجَرَةًa plantمِّنofيَقْطِينٍgourd
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine
وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُAnd We sent himإِلَىٰtoمِئَةِa hundredأَلْفٍthousandأَوْorيَزِيدُونَmore
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more
فَـَٔامَنُواAnd they believedفَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْso We gave them enjoymentإِلَىٰforحِينٍa while
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْThen ask themأَلِرَبِّكَDoes your Lord?الْبَنَاتُ(have) daughtersوَلَهُمُwhile for themالْبَنُونَ(are) sons
So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons
أَمْOrخَلَقْنَاdid We createالْمَلَآئِكَةَthe Angelsإِنَاثًاfemalesوَهُمْwhile theyشَاهِدُونَ(were) witnesses
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses
أَلَآNo doubtإِنَّهُمindeed theyمِّنْofإِفْكِهِمْtheir falsehoodلَيَقُولُونَ[they] say
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say
وَلَدَhas begottenاللهُAllahوَإِنَّهُمْand indeed theyلَكَاذِبُونَsurely (are) liars
Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars
أَصْطَفَىHas He chosen?الْبَنَاتِ[the] daughtersعَلَىoverالْبَنِينَsons
Has He chosen daughters over sons
مَاWhat is?لَكُمْwith youكَيْفَHow?تَحْكُمُونَyou judge
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement
أَفَلَاThen will not?تَذَكَّرُونَyou pay heed
Then will you not be reminded
أَمْOrلَكُمْ(is) for youسُلْطَانٌan authorityمُّبِينٌclear
Or do you have a clear authority
فَأْتُواThen bringبِكِتَابِكُمْyour bookإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَادِقِينَtruthful
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful
وَجَعَلُواAnd they have madeبَيْنَهُۥbetween Himوَبَيْنَand betweenالْجِنَّةِthe jinnنَسَبًاa relationshipوَلَقَدْbut certainlyعَلِمَتِknowالْجِنَّةُthe jinnإِنَّهُمْthat theyلَمُحْضَرُونَ(will) surely be brought
And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]
سُبْحَٰنَGlory beاللهِ(to) Allahعَمَّاabove whatيَصِفُونَthey attribute
Exalted is Allah above what they describe
إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَ(the) slavesاللهِ(of) Allahالْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen
Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]
فَإِنَّكُمْSo indeed youوَمَاand whatتَعْبُدُونَyou worship
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship
مَآNotأَنتُمْyouعَلَيْهِfrom Himبِفَاتِنِينَcan tempt away (anyone)
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
إِلَّاExceptمَنْwhoهُوَheصَالِ(is) to burnالْجَحِيمِ(in) the Hellfire
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire
وَمَاAnd notمِنَّآamong usإِلَّاexceptلَهُۥfor himمَقَامٌ(is) a positionمَّعْلُومٌknown
[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position
وَإِنَّاAnd indeed weلَنَحْنُsurely [we]الصَّافُّونَstand in rows
And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]
وَإِنَّاAnd indeed weلَنَحْنُsurely [we]الْمُسَبِّحُونَglorify (Allah)
And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah
وَإِنAnd indeedكَانُواthey used toلَيَقُولُونَsay
And indeed, the disbelievers used to say
لَوْIfأَنَّthatعِندَنَاwe hadذِكْرًاa reminderمِّنْfromالْأَوَّلِينَthe former (people)
If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples
لَكُنَّاCertainly we (would) have beenعِبَادَslavesاللهِ(of) Allahالْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen
We would have been the chosen servants of Allah
فَكَفَرُواBut they disbelievedبِهِۦin itفَسَوْفَso soonيَعْلَمُونَthey will know
But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyسَبَقَتْhas precededكَلِمَتُنَاOur Wordلِعِبَادِنَاfor Our slavesالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyلَهُمُsurely theyالْمَنصُورُونَ(would be) the victorious
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
وَإِنَّAnd indeedجُندَنَاOur hostلَهُمُsurely theyالْغَالِبُونَ(will be) those who overcome
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome
فَتَوَلَّSo turn awayعَنْهُمْfrom themحَتَّىٰuntilحِينٍa time
So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْAnd see themفَسَوْفَso soonيُبْصِرُونَthey will see
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَاThen is (it) for Our punishment?يَسْتَعْجِلُونَthey hasten
Then for Our punishment are they impatient
فَإِذَاBut whenنَزَلَit descendsبِسَاحَتِهِمْin their territoryفَسَآءَthen evil (will be)صَبَاحُ(the) morningالْمُنذَرِينَ(for) those who were warned
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned
وَتَوَلَّSo turn awayعَنْهُمْfrom themحَتَّىٰforحِينٍa time
And leave them for a time
وَأَبْصِرْAnd seeفَسَوْفَso soonيُبْصِرُونَthey will see
And see, for they are going to see
سُبْحَٰنَGloryرَبِّكَ(be to) your Lordرَبِّ(the) Lordالْعِزَّةِ(of) Honorعَمَّاabove whatيَصِفُونَthey attribute
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe
وَسَلَامٌAnd peace beعَلَىuponالْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers
And peace upon the messengers
وَالْحَمْدُAnd all praiseلِلّٰهِ(be) to Allahرَبِّ(the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds
