بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
إِذَاWhenوَقَعَتِoccursالْوَاقِعَةُthe Event
When the Occurrence occurs
لَيْسَNotلِوَقْعَتِهَاat its occurrenceكَاذِبَةٌa denial
There is, at its occurrence, no denial
خَافِضَةٌBringing downرَّافِعَةٌraising up
It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]
إِذَاWhenرُجَّتِwill be shakenالْأَرْضُthe earthرَجًّا(with) a shaking
When the earth is shaken with convulsion
وَبُسَّتِAnd will be crumbledالْجِبَالُthe mountainsبَسًّا(with awful) crumbling
And the mountains are broken down, crumbling
فَكَانَتْSo they becomeهَبَآءًdust particlesمُّنبَثًّاdispersing
And become dust dispersing
وَكُنتُمْAnd you will becomeأَزْوَاجًاkindsثَلَاثَةًthree
And you become [of] three kinds
فَأَصْحَابُThen (the) companionsالْمَيْمَنَةِ(of) the rightمَآwhat?أَصْحَابُ(are the) companionsالْمَيْمَنَةِ(of) the right
Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right
وَأَصْحَابُAnd (the) companionsالْمَشْأَمَةِ(of) the leftمَآwhat?أَصْحَابُ(are the) companionsالْمَشْأَمَةِ(of) the left
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left
وَالسَّابِقُونَAnd the foremostالسَّابِقُونَ(are) the foremost
And the forerunners, the forerunners
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseالْمُقَرَّبُونَ(are) the nearest ones
Those are the ones brought near [to Allah]
فِىInجَنَّاتِGardensالنَّعِيمِ(of) Pleasure
In the Gardens of Pleasure
ثُلَّةٌA companyمِّنَofالْأَوَّلِينَthe former (people)
A [large] company of the former peoples
وَقَلِيلٌAnd a fewمِّنَofالْاٰخِرِينَthe later (people)
And a few of the later peoples
عَلَىٰOnسُرُرٍthronesمَّوْضُونَةٍdecorated
On thrones woven [with ornament]
مُتَّكِئِينَRecliningعَلَيْهَاon themمُتَقَابِلِينَfacing each other
Reclining on them, facing each other
يَطُوفُWill circulateعَلَيْهِمْamong themوِلْدَانٌboysمُّخَلَّدُونَimmortal
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal
بِأَكْوَابٍWith vesselsوَأَبَارِيقَand jugsوَكَأْسٍand a cupمِّنfromمَّعِينٍa flowing stream
With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring
لَّاNotيُصَدَّعُونَthey will get headacheعَنْهَاtherefromوَلَاand notيُنزِفُونَthey will get intoxicated
No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated
وَفَاكِهَةٍAnd fruitsمِّمَّاof whatيَتَخَيَّرُونَthey select
And fruit of what they select
وَلَحْمِAnd (the) fleshطَيْرٍ(of) fowlsمِّمَّاof whatيَشْتَهُونَthey desire
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire
وَحُورٌAnd fair onesعِينٌ(with) large eyes
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes
كَأَمْثَالِLikeاللُّؤْلُؤِpearlsالْمَكْنُونِwell-protected
The likenesses of pearls well-protected
جَزَآءًA rewardبِمَاfor whatكَانُواthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَdo
As reward for what they used to do
لَاNotيَسْمَعُونَthey will hearفِيهَاthereinلَغْوًاvain talkوَلَاand notتَأْثِيمًاsinful (speech)
They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin
إِلَّاExceptقِيلًاa sayingسَلَامًاPeaceسَلَامًاPeace
Only a saying: "Peace, peace
وَأَصْحَابُAnd (the) companionsالْيَمِينِ(of) the rightمَآwhat?أَصْحَابُ(are the) companionsالْيَمِينِ(of) the right
The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right
فِىAmongسِدْرٍlote treesمَّخْضُودٍthornless
[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed
وَطَلْحٍAnd banana treesمَّنضُودٍlayered
And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]
وَظِلٍّAnd shadeمَّمْدُودٍextended
And shade extended
وَمَآءٍAnd waterمَّسْكُوبٍpoured forth
And water poured out
وَفَاكِهَةٍAnd fruitكَثِيرَةٍabundant
And fruit, abundant [and varied]
لَّاNotمَقْطُوعَةٍlimitedوَلَاand notمَمْنُوعَةٍforbidden
Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden
وَفُرُشٍAnd (on) couchesمَّرْفُوعَةٍraised
And [upon] beds raised high
إِنَّآIndeed Weأَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ[We] have produced themإِنشَآءً(into) a creation
Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation
فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّAnd We have made themأَبْكَارًاvirgins
And made them virgins
عُرُبًاDevotedأَتْرَابًاequals in age
Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age
لِّأَصْحَابِFor (the) companionsالْيَمِينِ(of) the right
For the companions of the right [who are]
ثُلَّةٌA companyمِّنَofالْأَوَّلِينَthe former people
A company of the former peoples
وَثُلَّةٌAnd a companyمِّنَofالْاٰخِرِينَthe later people
And a company of the later peoples
وَأَصْحَابُAnd (the) companionsالشِّمَالِ(of) the leftمَآwhat?أَصْحَابُ(are the) companionsالشِّمَالِ(of) the left
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left
فِىInسَمُومٍscorching fireوَحَمِيمٍand scalding water
[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water
وَظِلٍّAnd a shadeمِّنofيَحْمُومٍblack smoke
And a shade of black smoke
لَّاNotبَارِدٍcoolوَلَاand notكَرِيمٍpleasant
Neither cool nor beneficial
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُواwereقَبْلَbeforeذَٰلِكَthatمُتْرَفِينَindulging in affluence
Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence
وَكَانُواAnd wereيُصِرُّونَpersistingعَلَىinالْحِنثِthe sinالْعَظِيمِthe great
And they used to persist in the great violation
وَكَانُواAnd they used (to)يَقُولُونَsayأَئِذَاWhen?مِتْنَاwe dieوَكُنَّاand becomeتُرَابًاdustوَعِظَامًاand bonesأَءِنَّاwill we?لَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely be resurrected
And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected
أَوَاٰبَآؤُنَاAnd also our fathers?الْأَوَّلُونَformer
And our forefathers [as well]
قُلْSayإِنَّIndeedالْأَوَّلِينَthe formerوَالْآخِرِينَand the later people
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples
لَمَجْمُوعُونَSurely will be gatheredإِلَىٰforمِيقَاتِ(the) appointmentيَوْمٍ(of) a Dayمَّعْلُومٍwell-known
Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day
ثُمَّThenإِنَّكُمْindeed youأَيُّهَاO youالضَّآلُّونَthose astray!الْمُكَذِّبُونَthe deniers
Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers
لَآكِلُونَWill surely eatمِنfromشَجَرٍ(the) treeمِّنofزَقُّومٍZaqqum
Will be eating from trees of zaqqum
فَمَالِئُونَThen will fillمِنْهَاwith itالْبُطُونَthe bellies
And filling with it your bellies
فَشَارِبُونَAnd drinkعَلَيْهِover itمِنَ[from]الْحَمِيمِthe scalding water
And drinking on top of it from scalding water
فَشَارِبُونَAnd will drinkشُرْبَ(as) drinkingالْهِيمِ(of) the thirsty camels
And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels
هَٰذَاThisنُزُلُهُمْ(is) their hospitalityيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالدِّينِ(of) Judgment
That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense
نَحْنُWeخَلَقْنَاكُمْ[We] created youفَلَوْلَاso why (do) notتُصَدِّقُونَyou admit the truth
We have created you, so why do you not believe
أَفَرَأَيْتُمDo you see?مَّاwhatتُمْنُونَyou emit
Have you seen that which you emit
ءَأَنتُمْIs it you?تَخْلُقُونَهُwho create itأَمْorنَحْنُ(are) Weالْخَالِقُونَthe Creators
Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator
نَحْنُWeقَدَّرْنَا[We] have decreedبَيْنَكُمُamong youالْمَوْتَthe deathوَمَاand notنَحْنُWeبِمَسْبُوقِينَ(are) outrun
We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone
عَلَىٰٓInأَنthatنُّبَدِّلَWe (will) changeأَمْثَالَكُمْyour likeness[es]وَنُنشِئَكُمْand produce youفِىinمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know
In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyعَلِمْتُمُyou knowالنَّشْأَةَthe creationالْأُولَىٰthe firstفَلَوْلَاso why notتَذكَّرُونَyou take heed
And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember
أَفَرَأَيْتُمAnd do you see?مَّاwhatتَحْرُثُونَyou sow
And have you seen that [seed] which you sow
ءَأَنتُمْIs it you (who)?تَزْرَعُونَهُcause it to growأَمْorنَحْنُ(are) Weالزَّارِعُونَthe Ones Who grow
Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower
لَوْIfنَشَآءُWe willedلَجَعَلْنَاهُWe (would) surely make itحُطَامًاdebrisفَظَلْتُمْthen you would remainتَفَكَّهُونَwondering
If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder
إِنَّاIndeed weلَمُغْرَمُونَsurely are laden with debt
[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt
بَلْNayنَحْنُweمَحْرُومُونَ(are) deprived
Rather, we have been deprived
أَفَرَأَيْتُمُDo you see?الْمَآءَthe waterالَّذِىwhichتَشْرَبُونَyou drink
And have you seen the water that you drink
ءَأَنتُمْIs it you?أَنزَلْتُمُوهُwho send it downمِنَfromالْمُزْنِthe rain cloudsأَمْorنَحْنُWeالْمُنزِلُونَ(are) the Ones to send
Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down
لَوْIfنَشَآءُWe willedجَعَلْنَاهُWe (could) make itأُجَاجًاsaltyفَلَوْلَاthen why are you not gratefulتَشْكُرُونَthen why are you not grateful
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful
أَفَرَأَيْتُمُDo you see?النَّارَthe Fireالَّتِىwhichتُورُونَyou ignite
And have you seen the fire that you ignite
ءَأَنتُمْIs it you?أَنشَأْتُمْwho producedشَجَرَتَهَآits treeأَمْorنَحْنُWeالْمُنشِئُونَ(are) the Producers
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer
نَحْنُWeجَعَلْنَاهَاhave made itتَذْكِرَةًa reminderوَمَتَاعًاand a provisionلِّلْمُقْوِينَfor the wayfarers in the desert
We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers
فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِاسْمِ(the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordالْعَظِيمِthe Most Great
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great
فَلَآBut nayأُقْسِمُI swearبِمَوَاقِعِby settingالنُّجُومِ(of) the stars
Then I swear by the setting of the stars
وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed itلَقَسَمٌ(is) surely an oathلَّوْifتَعْلَمُونَyou knowعَظِيمٌgreat
And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great
إِنَّهُۥIndeed itلَقُرْآنٌ(is) surely a Quranكَرِيمٌnoble
Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an
فِىInكِتَابٍa Bookمَّكْنُونٍwell-guarded
In a Register well-protected
لَّاNoneيَمَسُّهُۥٓtouch itإِلَّاexceptالْمُطَهَّرُونَthe purified
None touch it except the purified
تَنزِيلٌA Revelationمِّنfromرَّبِّ(the) Lordالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds
أَفَبِهَذَاThen is it to this?الْحَدِيثِstatementأَنتُمthat youمُّدْهِنُونَ(are) indifferent
Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent
وَتَجْعَلُونَAnd you makeرِزْقَكُمْyour provisionأَنَّكُمْthat youتُكَذِّبُونَdeny
And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]
فَلَوْلَآThen why notإِذَاwhenبَلَغَتِit reachesالْحُلْقُومَthe throat
Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat
وَأَنتُمْAnd youحِينَئِذٍ(at) that timeتَنظُرُونَlook on
And you are at that time looking on
وَنَحْنُAnd Weأَقْرَبُ(are) nearerإِلَيْهِto himمِنكُمْthan youوَلَٰكِنbutلَّاnotتُبْصِرُونَyou (do) see
And Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see
فَلَوْلَآThen why notإِنifكُنتُمْyou areغَيْرَnotمَدِينِينَto be recompensed
Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed
تَرْجِعُونَهَاBring it backإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَادِقِينَtruthful
Bring it back, if you should be truthful
فَأَمَّآThenإِنifكَانَhe wasمِنَofالْمُقَرَّبِينَthose brought near
And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah
فَرَوْحٌThen restوَرَيْحَانٌand bountyوَجَنَّةُand a Gardenنَعِيمٍ(of) Pleasure
Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure
وَأَمَّآAndإِنifكَانَhe wasمِنْofأَصْحَابِ(the) companionsالْيَمِينِ(of) the right
And if he was of the companions of the right
فَسَلَامٌThen peaceلَّكَfor youمِنْ[from]أَصْحَابِ(the) companionsالْيَمِينِ(of) the right
Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right
وَأَمَّآButإِنifكَانَhe wasمِنَofالْمُكَذِّبِينَthe deniersالضَّآلِّينَthe astray
But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray
فَنُزُلٌThen hospitalityمِّنْofحَمِيمٍ(the) scalding water
Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water
وَتَصْلِيَةُAnd burningجَحِيمٍ(in) Hellfire
And burning in Hellfire
إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَهُوَsurely itحَقُّ(is the) truthالْيَقِينِcertain
Indeed, this is the true certainty
فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِاسْمِ(the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordالْعَظِيمِthe Most Great
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great
