بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
الٓمٓAlif Laam Meem
Alif, Lam, Meem
اللهُAllahلَآ(there is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimالْحَىُّthe Ever-Livingالْقَيُّومُthe Sustainer of all that exists
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence
نَزَّلَHe revealedعَلَيْكَto youالْكِتَابَthe Bookبِالْحَقِّin [the] truthمُصَدِّقاًconfirmingلِّمَاthat whichبَيْنَbetween (were before it)يَدَيْهِhis hands (were before it)وَأَنزَلَand He revealedالتَّوْرَاةَthe Tauratوَالْإِنجِيلَand the Injeel
He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
مِنFromقَبْلُbefore (this)هُدًى(as) guidanceلِّلنَّاسِfor the mankindوَأَنزَلَAnd (He) revealedالْفُرْقَانَthe CriterionإِنَّVerilyالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]بِاٰيَاتِin (the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentشَدِيدٌsevereوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyذُوAll-Ableانتِقَامٍ(of) retribution
Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Qur'an. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah will have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution
إِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahلَاnotيَخْفَىٰis hiddenعَلَيْهِfrom Himشَىْءٌanythingفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthوَلَاand notفِىinالسَّمَآءِthe heaven
Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven
هُوَHeالَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُصَوِّرُكُمْshapes youفِىinالْأَرْحَامِthe wombsكَيْفَhow(ever)?يَشَآءُHe willsلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimالْعَزِيزُthe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise
It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise
هُوَHeالَّذِىٓ(is) the One Whoأَنزَلَrevealedعَلَيْكَto youالْكِتَابَthe Bookمِنْهُof itاٰيَاتٌ(are) Versesمُّحْكَمَاتٌabsolutely clearهُنَّthey (are)أُمُّthe foundationالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookوَأُخَرُand othersمُتَشَابِهَاتٌ(are) allegoricalفَأَمَّاThen as forالَّذِينَthoseفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsزَيْغٌ(is) perversityفَيَتَّبِعُونَ[so] they followمَاwhatتَشَابَهَ(is) allegoricalمِنْهُof itابْتِغَآءَseekingالْفِتْنَةِ[the] discordوَابْتِغَآءَand seekingتَأْوِيلِهِits interpretationوَمَاAnd notيَعْلَمُknowsتَأْوِيلَهُits interpretationإِلَّاexceptاللهُAllahوَالرَّاسِخُونَAnd those firmفِىinالْعِلْمِ[the] knowledgeيَقُولُونَthey sayاٰمَنَّاWe believeبِهِۦin itكُلٌّAllمِّنْ(is)عِندِfromرَبِّنَاour LordوَمَاAnd notيَذَّكَّرُwill take heedإِلَّآexceptأُوْلُواْmenالْألْبَابِ(of) understanding
It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding
رَبَّنَاOur Lord!لَا(Do) notتُزِغْYou deviateقُلُوبَنَاour heartsبَعْدَafterإِذْ[when]هَدَيْتَنَاYou (have) guided usوَهَبْand grantلَنَا(for) usمِنfromلَّدُنكَYourselfرَحْمَةًmercyإِنَّكَIndeed YouأَنتَYouالْوَهَّابُ(are) the Bestower
[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower
رَبَّنَآOur Lord!إِنَّكَIndeed Youجَامِعُwill gatherالنَّاسِ[the] mankindلِيَوْمٍon a Dayلَّا(there is) noرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِin itإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahلَا(does) notيُخْلِفُbreakالْمِيعَادَthe Promise
Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]لَنneverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنْهُمْ[for] themأَمْوَالُهُمْtheir wealthوَلَآand notأَوْلَادُهُمtheir childrenمِّنَagainstاللهِAllahشَيْئًاanythingوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَand thoseهُمْthey (are)وَقُودُ(the) fuelالنَّارِ(for) the Fire
Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire
كَدَأْبِLike behaviorاٰلِ(of the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunوَالَّذِينَand those whoمِن(were) fromقَبْلِهِمْbefore themكَذَّبُواْThey deniedبِاٰيَاتِنَاOur Signsفَأَخَذَهُمُso seized themاللهُAllahبِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sinsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahشَدِيدُ(is) severeالْعِقَابِ(in) [the] punishment
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in penalty
قُلSayلِّلَّذِينَto those whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]سَتُغْلَبُونَYou will be overcomeوَتُحْشَرُونَand you will be gatheredإِلَىٰtoجَهَنَّمَHellوَبِئْسَ[and] an evilالْمِهَادُ[the] resting place
Say to those who disbelieve, "You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place
قَدْSurelyكَانَit wasلَكُمْfor youاٰيَةٌa signفِىinفِئَتَيْنِ(the) two hostsالْتَقَتَاwhich two metفِئَةٌone groupتُقَاتِلُfightingفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) Allahوَأُخْرَىٰand anotherكَافِرَةٌdisbelieversيَرَوْنَهُمThey were seeing themمِّثْلَيْهِمْtwice of themرَأْىَwith the sightالْعَيْنِ(of) their eyesوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahيُؤَيِّدُsupportsبِنَصْرِهِۦwith His helpمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَعِبْرَةًsurely (is) a lessonلِّأُوْلِىfor the ownersالْأَبْصَارِ(of) vision
Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met - one fighting in the cause of Allah and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allah supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision
زُيِّنَBeautifiedلِلنَّاسِfor mankindحُبُّ(is) loveالشَّهَوَاتِ(of) the (things they) desireمِنَofالنِّسَآءِ[the] womenوَالْبَنِينَand [the] sonsوَالْقَنَاطِيرِand [the] heapsالْمُقَنطَرَةِ[the] stored upمِنَofالذَّهَبِ[the] goldوَالْفِضَّةِand [the] silverوَالْخَيْلِand [the] horsesالْمُسَوَّمَةِ[the] brandedوَالْأَنْعَامِand [the] cattleوَالْحَرْثِand [the] tilled landذَٰلِكَThatمَتَاعُ(is) provisionالْحَيَاةِ(of) lifeالدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَٱللّٰهُbut Allahعِندَهُۥwith Himحُسْنُ(is an) excellentالْمَآبِ[the] abode to return
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return
قُلْSayأَؤُنَبِّئُكُمShall I inform you?بِخَيْرٍof betterمِّنthanذَٰلِكُمْthatلِلَّذِينَFor those whoاتَّقَواْfear[ed]عِندَwithرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordجَنَّاتٌ(are) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themالْأَنْهَارُ[the] riversخَالِدِينَabiding foreverفِيهَاin itوَأَزْوَاجٌand spousesمُّطَهَّرَةٌpureوَرِضْوَانٌand approvalمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seerبِالْعِبَادِof (His) slaves
Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allah. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants
الَّذِينَThose whoيَقُولُونَsayرَبَّنَآOur Lord!إِنَّنَآIndeed weاٰمَنَّاwe (have) believedفَاغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَقِنَاand save usعَذَابَ(from) punishmentالنَّارِ(of) the Fire
Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire
الصَّابِرِينَThe patientوَالصَّادِقِينَand the truthfulوَالْقَانِتِينَand the obedientوَالْمُنفِقِينَand those who spendوَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَand those who seek forgivenessبِالْأَسْحَارِ[in the] before dawn
The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allah], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn
شَهِدَBears witnessاللهُAllahأَنَّهُۥthat [He]لَآ(there is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimوَالْمَلَآئِكَةُand (so do) the Angelsوَأُوْلُواْand ownersالْعِلْمِ(of) [the] knowledgeقَآئِمَاًstandingبِالْقِسْطِin justiceلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimالْعَزِيزُthe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise
Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise
إِنَّIndeedالدِّينَthe religionعِندَnearاللهِAllahالْإِسْلَامَ(is) IslamوَمَاAnd notاخْتَلَفَdifferedالَّذِينَthose whoأُوْتُواْwere givenالْكِتَابَthe Bookإِلَّاexceptمِنfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَهُمُcame to themالْعِلْمُ[the] knowledgeبَغْيًاout of envyبَيْنَهُمْamong themوَمَنAnd whoeverيَكْفُرْdisbelievesبِاٰيَاتِin (the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahفَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftالْحِسَابِ(in taking) account
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account
فَإِنْThen ifحَآجُّوكَthey argue with youفَقُلْthen sayأَسْلَمْتُI have submittedوَجْهِىَmyselfلِلّٰهِto Allahوَمَنِand (those) whoاتَّبَعَنِfollow meوَقُلAnd sayلِّلَّذِينَto those whoأُوْتُواْwere givenالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَالْأُمِّيِّينَand the unlettered peopleءَأَسْلَمْتُمْHave you submitted yourselvesفَإِنْThen ifأَسْلَمُواْthey submitفَقَدِthen surelyاهْتَدَواْthey are guidedوَّإِنBut ifتَوَلَّواْthey turn backفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyعَلَيْكَon youالْبَلَاغُ(is) to [the] conveyوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seerبِالْعِبَادِof [His] slaves
So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islam], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِاٰيَاتِin (the) Signs (of)اللهِAllahوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killالنَّبِيِّينَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّrightوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killالَّذِينَthose whoيَأْمُرُونَorderبِالْقِسْطِ[with] justiceمِنَamongالنَّاسِthe peopleفَبَشِّرْهُمthen give them tidingsبِعَذَابٍof a punishmentأَلِيمٍpainful
Those who disbelieve in the signs of Allah and kill the prophets without right and kill those who order justice from among the people - give them tidings of a painful punishment
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseالَّذِينَ(are) the ones whoحَبِطَتْbecame worthlessأَعْمَالُهُمْtheir deedsفِىinالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَالْآخِرَةِand (in) the HereafterوَمَاAnd notلَهُم(will be) for themمِّنanyنَّاصِرِينَhelpers
They are the ones whose deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and for them there will be no helpers
أَلَمْHave not?تَرَyou seenإِلَى[to]الَّذِينَthose whoأُوْتُواْwere givenنَصِيبًاa portionمِّنَofالْكِتَابِthe ScriptureيُدْعَوْنَThey are invitedإِلَىٰtoكِتَابِ(the) Bookاللهِ(of) Allahلِيَحْكُمَthat (it should) arbitrateبَيْنَهُمْbetween themثُمَّthenيَتَوَلَّىٰturns awayفَرِيقٌa partyمِّنْهُمْof themوَهُمand they (are)مُّعْرِضُونَthose who are averse
Do you not consider, [O Muhammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allah that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing
ذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَالُواْsayلَنNeverتَمَسَّنَاwill touch usالنَّارُthe Fireإِلَّآexceptأَيَّامًا(for) daysمَّعْدُودَاتٍnumberedوَغَرَّهُمْAnd deceived themفِىinدِينِهِمtheir religionمَّاwhatكَانُواْthey wereيَفْتَرُونَinventing
That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing
فَكَيْفَThen how (will it be)?إِذَاwhenجَمَعْنَاهُمْWe will gather themلِيَوْمٍon a Dayلَّاnoرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِin itوَوُفِّيَتْAnd will be paid in fullكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَّاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged
So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged
قُلِSayٱللّٰهُمَّO Allah!مَالِكَOwnerالْمُلْكِ(of) the DominionتُؤْتِىYou giveالْمُلْكَthe dominionمَن(to) whomتَشَآءُYou willوَتَنزِعُand You take awayالْمُلْكَthe dominionمِمَّنfrom whomتَشَآءُYou willوَتُعِزُّand You honorمَنwhomتَشَآءُYou willوَتُذِلُّand You let humiliateمَنwhomتَشَآءُYou willبِيَدِكَIn Your handالْخَيْرُ(is all) the goodإِنَّكَIndeed Youعَلَىٰ(are) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful
Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent
تُولِجُYou cause to enterالَّيْلَthe nightفِىinالنَّهَارِthe dayوَتُولِجُand You cause to enterالنَّهَارَthe dayفِىinالَّيْلِthe nightوَتُخْرِجُand You bring forthالْحَىَّthe livingمِنَfromالْمَيِّتِthe deadوَتُخْرِجُand You bring forthالْمَيِّتَthe deadمِنَfromالْحَىِّthe livingوَتَرْزُقُand You give provisionمَن(to) whomتَشَآءُYou willبِغَيْرِwithoutحِسَابٍmeasure
You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account
لَّا(Let) notيَتَّخِذِtakeالْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersالْكَافِرِينَthe disbelieversأَوْلِيَآءَ(as) alliesمِنfromدُوْنِinstead ofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersوَمَنAnd whoeverيَفْعَلْdoesذَٰلِكَthatفَلَيْسَthen not he (has)مِنَfromاللهِAllahفِىinشَىْءٍanythingإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتَتَّقُواْyou fearمِنْهُمْfrom themتُقَاةً(as) a precautionوَيُحَذِّرُكُمُAnd warns youاللهُAllahنَفْسُهُۥ(of) Himselfوَإِلَىand toاللهِAllahالْمَصِيرُ(is) the final return
Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination
قُلْSayإِنWhetherتُخْفُواْyou concealمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsأَوْorتُبْدُوهُyou disclose itيَعْلَمْهُknows itاللهُAllahوَيَعْلَمُAnd He knowsمَاwhatفِى(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَمَاand whatفِى(is) inالْأَرْضِthe earthوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful
Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allah knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allah is over all things competent
يَوْمَ(On the) dayتَجِدُwill findكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَّاwhatعَمِلَتْit didمِنْofخَيْرٍgoodمُّحْضَرًاpresentedوَمَاand whatعَمِلَتْit didمِنofسُوٓءٍevilتَوَدُّit will wishلَوْ[if]أَنَّthatبَيْنَهَاbetween itselfوَبَيْنَهُۥٓand between it (evil)أَمَدًا(was) a distanceبَعِيدًاgreatوَيُحَذِّرُكُمُAnd warns youاللهُAllahنَفْسُهُۥ(against) Himselfوَٱللّٰهُand Allahرَؤُوفُ(is) Most Kindبِالْعِبَادِto (His) [the] slaves
The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants
قُلْSayإِنIfكُنتُمْyouتُحِبُّونَloveاللهَAllahفَاتَّبِعُونِىthen follow meيُحْبِبْكُمُwill love youاللهُAllahوَيَغْفِرْand He will forgiveلَكُمْfor youذُنُوبَكُمْyour sinsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
قُلْSayأَطِيعُواْObeyاللهَAllahوَالرَّسُولَand the MessengerفَإِنThen ifتَوَلَّواْthey turn awayفَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveالْكَافِرِينَthe disbelievers
Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away - then indeed, Allah does not like the disbelievers
إِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahاصْطَفَىٰٓchoseاٰدَمَAdamوَنُوحًاand Nuhوَآلَand (the) familyإِبْرَاهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimوَآلَand (the) familyعِمْرَانَ(of) Imranعَلَىoverالْعَالَمِينَthe worlds
Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of 'Imran over the worlds
ذُرِّيَّةًDescendentsبَعْضُهَاsome of themمِنfromبَعْضٍothersوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing
Descendants, some of them from others. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing
إِذْWhenقَالَتِ[she] saidامْرَأَتُ(the) wifeعِمْرَانَ(of) ImranرَبِّMy Lord!إِنِّىIndeed Iنَذَرْتُ[I] vowedلَكَto Youمَاwhatفِى(is) inبَطْنِىmy wombمُحَرَّرًاdedicatedفَتَقَبَّلْso acceptمِنِّىٓfrom meإِنَّكَIndeed YouأَنتَYouالسَّمِيعُ(are) the All-Hearingالْعَلِيمُthe All-Knowing
[Mention, O Muhammad], when the wife of 'Imran said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing
فَلَمَّاThen whenوَضَعَتْهَاshe delivered herقَالَتْshe saidرَبِّMy Lordإِنِّىindeed Iوَضَعْتُهَآ[I] (have) delivered [her]أُنثَىٰa femaleوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُknows betterبِمَا[of] whatوَضَعَتْshe deliveredوَلَيْسَand is notالذَّكَرُthe maleكَالْأُنثَىlike the femaleوَإِنِّىAnd that Iسَمَّيْتُهَا[I] (have) named herمَرْيَمَMaryamوَإِنِّىٓand that Iأُعِيذُهَا[I] seek refuge for herبِكَin Youوَذُرِّيَّتَهَاand her offspringمِنَfromالشَّيْطَانِthe Shaitaanالرَّجِيمِthe rejected
But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, "And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah]
فَتَقَبَّلَهَاSo accepted herرَبُّهَاher Lordبِقَبُولٍwith acceptanceحَسَنٍgoodوَأَنبَتَهَاand reared herنَبَاتًاa rearingحَسَنًاgoodوَكَفَّلَهَاand put her in (the) careزَكَرِيَّا(of) ZakariyaكُلَّمَاWheneverدَخَلَenteredعَلَيْهَاupon herزَكَرِيَّاZakariyaالْمِحْرَابَ[the] prayer chamberوَجَدَhe foundعِندَهَاwith herرِزْقاًprovisionقَالَHe saidيَامَرْيَمُO Maryam!أَنَّىٰFrom where?لَكِfor youهَٰذَا(is) thisقَالَتْShe saidهُوَThisمِنْ(is)عِندِfromاللهِAllahإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahيَرْزُقُgives provisionمَن(to) whomيَشَآءُHe willsبِغَيْرِwithoutحِسَابٍmeasure
So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account
هُنَالِكَThere onlyدَعَاinvokedزَكَرِيَّاZakariyaرَبَّهُۥhis Lordقَالَhe saidرَبِّMy Lordهَبْgrantلِى[for] meمِنfromلَّدُنْكَYourselfذُرِّيَّةًoffspringطَيِّبَةًpureإِنَّكَIndeed Youسَمِيعُ(are) All-Hearerالدُّعَآءِ(of) the prayer
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication
فَنَادَتْهُThen called himالْمَلَآئِكَةُthe Angelsوَهُوَwhen heقَآئِمٌ(was) standingيُصَلِّىprayingفِىinالْمِحْرَابِthe prayer chamberأَنَّIndeedاللهَAllahيُبَشِّرُكَgives you glad tidingsبِيَحْيَـىof Yahyaمُصَدِّقًاconfirmingبِكَلِمَةٍ[of] a WordمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَسَيِّدًاand a nobleوَحَصُورًاand chasteوَنَبِيًّاand a Prophetمِّنَamongالصَّالِحِينَthe righteous
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allah and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous
قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lordأَنَّىٰhow?يَكُونُcan (there) beلِىfor meغُلَامٌa sonوَقَدْand verilyبَلَغَنِىَhas reached meالْكِبَرُ[the] old ageوَامْرَأَتِىand my wifeعَاقِرٌ(is) [a] barrenقَالَHe saidكَذَٰلِكَThusاللهُAllahيَفْعَلُdoesمَاwhatيَشَآءُHe wills
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" The angel said, "Such is Allah; He does what He wills
قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lordاجْعَلmakeلِّىٓfor meاٰيَةًa signقَالَHe saidاٰيَتُكَyour signأَلَّا(is) that notتُكَلِّمَyou will speakالنَّاسَ(to) the peopleثَلَاثَةَ(for) threeأَيَّامٍdaysإِلَّاexceptرَمْزًا(with) gesturesوَاذْكُرAnd rememberرَّبَّكَyour Lordكَثِيرًاmuchوَسَبِّحْand glorify (Him)بِالْعَشِيِّin the eveningوَالْإِبْكَارِand (in) the morning
He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He Said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَتِsaidالْمَلَآئِكَةُthe AngelsيَامَرْيَمُO Maryam!إِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahاصْطَفَاكِ(has) chosen youوَطَهَّرَكِand purified youوَاصْطَفَاكِand chosen youعَلَىٰoverنِسَآءِ(the) womenالْعَالَمِينَ(of) the worlds
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds
يَامَرْيَمُO Maryam!اقْنُتِىyou Be obedientلِرَبِّكِto your Lordوَاسْجُدِىand prostrateوَارْكَعِىand bow downمَعَwithالرَّاكِعِينَthose who bow down
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]
ذَٰلِكَThatمِنْ(is) fromأَنبَآءِ(the) newsالْغَيْبِ(of) the unseenنُوحِيهِWe reveal itإِلَيْكَto youوَمَاAnd notكُنتَyou wereلَدَيْهِمْwith themإِذْwhenيُلْقُونَthey castأَقْلَامَهُمْtheir pensأَيُّهُمْ(as to) which of them?يَكْفُلُtakes charge (of)مَرْيَمَMaryamوَمَاand notكُنتَyou wereلَدَيْهِمْwith themإِذْwhenيَخْتَصِمُونَthey (were) disputing
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muhammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed
إِذْWhenقَالَتِsaidالْمَلَآئِكَةُthe AngelsيَامَرْيَمُO Maryam!إِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahيُبَشِّرُكِgives you glad tidingsبِكَلِمَةٍof a wordمِّنْهُfrom Himاسْمُهُhis nameالْمَسِيحُ(is) the MessiahعِيسَىIsaابْنُsonمَرْيَمَ(of) Maryamوَجِيهًاhonoredفِىinالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَالْآخِرَةِand (in) the Hereafterوَمِنَand ofالْمُقَرَّبِينَthose brought near (to Allah)
[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah]
وَيُكَلِّمُAnd he will speakالنَّاسَ(to) the peopleفِىinالْمَهْدِthe cradleوَكَهْلًاand (in) maturityوَمِنَand (he will be) ofالصَّالِحِينَthe righteous
He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous
قَالَتْShe saidرَبِّMy Lordأَنَّىٰhow?يَكُونُis [it]لِىfor meوَلَدٌa boyوَلَمْand (has) notيَمْسَسْنِىtouch(ed) meبَشَرٌany manقَالَHe saidكَذَٰلِكِThusاللهُAllahيَخْلُقُcreatesمَاwhatيَشَآءُHe willsإِذَاWhenقَضَىٰٓHe decreesأَمْرًاa matterفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyيَقُولُHe saysلَهُۥto itكُنBeفَيَكُونُand it becomes
She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is
وَيُعَلِّمُهُAnd He will teach himالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَالْحِكْمَةَand [the] wisdomوَالتَّوْرَاةَand the Tauratوَالْإِنجِيلَand the Injeel
And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel
وَرَسُولًاAnd (make him) a Messengerإِلَىٰtoبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَائِيلَ(of) IsraelأَنِّىIndeed Iقَدْ[surely]جِئْتُكُم[I] (have) come (to) youبِاٰيَةٍwith a signمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordأَنِّىٓthat Iأَخْلُقُ[I] designلَكُمfor youمِّنَfromالطِّينِ[the] clayكَهَيْئَةِlike the formالطَّيْرِ(of) the birdفَأَنفُخُthen I breathفِيهِinto itفَيَكُونُand it becomesطَيْرًاa birdبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionاللهِ(of) AllahوَأُبْرِئُAnd I cureالْأَكْمَهَthe blindوَالْأَبْرَصَand the leperوَأُحْيِـىand I give lifeالْمَوْتَىٰ(to) the deadبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionاللهِ(of) AllahوَأُنَبِّئُكُمAnd I inform youبِمَاof whatتَأْكُلُونَyou eatوَمَاand whatتَدَّخِرُونَyou storeفِىinبُيُوتِكُمْyour housesإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَآيَةً(is) surely a signلَّكُمْfor youإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers
وَمُصَدِّقًاAnd confirmingلِّمَاthat whichبَيْنَbetween (before me)يَدَىَّmy hands (before me)مِنَofالتَّوْرَاةِthe Tauratوَلِأُحِلَّand so that I make lawfulلَكُمfor youبَعْضَsomeالَّذِى(of) that whichحُرِّمَwas forbiddenعَلَيْكُمْto youوَجِئْتُكُمAnd I (have) come to youبِاٰيَةٍwith a signمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour LordفَاتَّقُواْSo fearاللهَAllahوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me
And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me
إِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahرَبِّى(is) my Lordوَرَبُّكُمْand your Lordفَاعْبُدُوهُso worship HimهَٰذَاThisصِرَاطٌ(is) the pathمُّسْتَقِيمٌstraight
Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path
فَلَمَّآThen whenأَحَسَّperceivedعِيسَىٰIsaمِنْهُمُfrom themالْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefقَالَhe saidمَنْWho?أَنصَارِي(will be) my helpersإِلَىtoاللهِAllahقَالَSaidالْحَوَارِيُّونَthe disciplesنَحْنُWeأَنصَارُ(will be the) helpersاللهِ(of) Allahاٰمَنَّاwe believe[d]بِٱللّٰهِin Allahوَاشْهَدْand bear witnessبِأَنَّاthat weمُسْلِمُونَ(are) Muslims
But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allah?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allah. We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]
رَبَّنَآOur Lordاٰمَنَّاwe believe[d]بِمَآin whatأَنزَلْتَYou revealedوَاتَّبَعْنَاand we follow[ed]الرَّسُولَthe Messengerفَاكْتُبْنَاthen write usمَعَamongالشَّاهِدِينَthe witnesses
Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger Jesus, so register us among the witnesses [to truth]
وَمَكَرُواْAnd they schemedوَمَكَرَand plannedاللهُAllahوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahخَيْرُ(is the) bestالْمَاكِرِينَ(of) the planners
And the disbelievers planned, but Allah planned. And Allah is the best of planners
إِذْWhenقَالَsaidاللهُAllahيَاعِيسَىٰٓO Isa!إِنِّىIndeed Iمُتَوَفِّيكَ(will) take youوَرَافِعُكَand raise youإِلَىَّto Myselfوَمُطَهِّرُكَand purify youمِنَfromالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]وَجَاعِلُand I will makeالَّذِينَthose whoاتَّبَعُوكَfollow[ed] youفَوْقَsuperiorالَّذِينَ(to) those whoكَفَرُوٓاdisbelieve[d]إِلَىٰonيَوْمِ(the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionثُمَّThenإِلَىَّto Meمَرْجِعُكُمْ(is) your returnفَأَحْكُمُand I will judgeبَيْنَكُمْbetween youفِيمَاabout whatكُنتُمْyou wereفِيهِ[in it]تَخْتَلِفُونَdiffering
[Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ
فَأَمَّاThen as forالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْthen I will punish themعَذَابًا(with) a punishmentشَدِيدًاsevereفِىinالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَالْآخِرَةِand (in) the HereafterوَمَاAnd notلَهُمfor themمِّنanyنَّاصِرِينَhelpers
And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers
وَأَمَّاAnd as forالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]وَعَمِلُواْand didالصَّالِحَاتِ[the] righteous deedsفَيُوَفِّيهِمْthen He will grant them in fullأُجُورَهُمْtheir rewardوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers
But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allah does not like the wrongdoers
ذَٰلِكَThatنَتْلُوهُ(is what) We recite [it]عَلَيْكَto youمِنَofالاٰيَاتِthe Versesوَالذِّكْرِand the Reminderالْحَكِيمِ[the] Wise
This is what We recite to you, [O Muhammad], of [Our] verses and the precise [and wise] message
إِنَّIndeedمَثَلَ(the) likenessعِيسَىٰ(of) IsaعِندَnearاللهِAllahكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) likenessاٰدَمَ(of) AdamخَلَقَهُۥHe created himمِنfromتُرَابٍdustثِمَّthenقَالَHe saidلَهُۥto himكُنBeفَيَكُونُand he was
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was
الْحَقُّThe truthمِن(is) fromرَّبِّكَyour Lordفَلَاso (do) notتَكُنbeمِّنْamongالْمُمْتَرِينَthe doubters
The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters
فَمَنْThen whoeverحَآجَّكَargues (with) youفِيهِconcerning itمِنfromبَعْدِafterمَاwhatجَآءَكَcame to youمِنَofالْعِلْمِthe knowledgeفَقُلْthen sayتَعَالَواْComeنَدْعُlet us callأَبْنَآءَنَاour sonsوَأَبْنَآءَكُمْand your sonsوَنِسَآءَنَاand our womenوَنِسَآءَكُمْand your womenوَأَنفُسَنَاand ourselvesوَأَنفُسَكُمْand yourselvesثُمَّthenنَبْتَهِلْlet us pray humblyفَنَجْعَلand [we] invokeلَّعْنَتَthe curseاللهِ(of) Allahعَلَىonالْكَٰذِبِينَthe liars
Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars [among us]
إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَهُوَsurely it (is)الْقَصَصُthe narrationالْحَقُّ[the] trueوَمَاAnd (there is) noمِنْ(of)إِلَٰهٍgodإِلَّاexceptاللهُAllahوَإِنَّAnd indeedاللهَAllahلَهُوَsurely Heالْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyالْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise
Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allah. And indeed, Allah is the Exalted in Might, the Wise
فَإِنAnd ifتَوَلَّواْthey turn backفَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Knowingبِالْمُفْسِدِينَof the corrupters
But if they turn away, then indeed - Allah is Knowing of the corrupters
قُلْSayيَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!تَعَالَواْComeإِلَىٰtoكَلِمَةٍa wordسَوَآءٍequitableبَيْنَنَاbetween usوَبَيْنَكُمْand between youأَلَّاthat notنَعْبُدَwe worshipإِلَّاexceptاللهَAllahوَلَاand notنُشْرِكَwe associate partnersبِهِۦwith Himشَيْئًاanythingوَلَاand notيَتَّخِذَtakeبَعْضُنَاsome of usبَعْضاً(to) othersأَرْبَابًا(as) lordsمِّنfromدُونِbesidesاللهِAllahفَإِنThen ifتَوَلَّواْthey turn awayفَقُولُواْthen sayاشْهَدُواْBear witnessبِأَنَّاthat weمُسْلِمُونَ(are) Muslims
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]
يَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!لِمَWhy?تُحَآجُّونَ(do) you argueفِىٓconcerningإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimوَمَآwhile notأُنزِلَتِwas revealedالتَّورَاةُthe Tauratوَالْإِنجِيلُand the Injeelإِلَّاexceptمِنfromبَعْدِهِۦٓafter himأَفَلَاThen why don't?تَعْقِلُونَyou use your intellect
O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason
هَٰٓأَنتُمْHere you areهَٰٓؤُلَآءِthose whoحَاجَجْتُمْarguedفِيمَاabout whatلَكُم[for] youبِهِۦof itعِلمٌ(have some) knowledgeفَلِمَThen why?تُحَآجُّونَ(do) you argueفِيمَاabout whatلَيْسَnotلَكُمfor youبِهِۦof itعِلْمٌ(any) knowledgeوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsوَأَنتُمْwhile youلَا(do) notتَعْلَمُونَknow
Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allah knows, while you know not
مَاNotكَانَwasإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimيَهُودِيًّاa Jewوَلَاand notنَصْرَانِيًّاa Christianوَلَٰكِن[and] butكَانَhe wasحَنِيفًاa trueمُّسْلِمًاMuslimوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَfromالْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]. And he was not of the polytheists
إِنَّIndeedأَوْلَىthe best to claim relationshipالنَّاسِ(of) peopleبِإِبْرَاهِيمَwith Ibrahimلَلَّذِينَ(are) those whoاتَّبَعُوهُfollow himوَهَٰذَاand thisالنَّبِىُّ[the] Prophetوَالَّذِينَand those whoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]وَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahوَلِيُّ(is) a Guardianالْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers
Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allah] and this prophet, and those who believe [in his message]. And Allah is the ally of the believers
وَدَّتWishedطَّآئِفَةٌa groupمِّنْfromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookلَوْifيُضِلُّونَكُمْthey could lead you astrayوَمَاand notيُضِلُّونَthey lead astrayإِلَّآexceptأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesوَمَاand notيَشْعُرُونَthey perceive
A faction of the people of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not
يَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!لِمَWhy do?تَكْفُرُونَyou denyبِاٰيَاتِ[in] the Signsاللهِ(of) Allahوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَشْهَدُونَbear witness
O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah while you witness [to their truth]
يَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!لِمَWhy?تَلْبِسُونَdo you mixالْحَقَّthe truthبِالْبَاطِلِwith the falsehoodوَتَكْتُمُونَand concealالْحَقَّthe truthوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَknow
O People of the Scripture, why do you confuse the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]
وَقَالَتAnd saidطَّآئِفَةٌa groupمِّنْofأَهْلِ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the BookاٰمِنُواْBelieveبِالَّذِىٓin whatأُنزِلَwas revealedعَلَىonالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]وَجْهَ(at the) beginningالنَّهَارِ(of) the dayوَاكْفُرُواْand rejectاٰخِرَهُ(at) its endلَعَلَّهُمْperhaps they mayيَرْجِعُونَreturn
And a faction of the People of the Scripture say [to each other], "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will abandon their religion
وَلَاAnd (do) notتُؤْمِنُوٓاْbelieveإِلَّاexceptلِمَن(the one) whoتَبِعَfollowsدِينَكُمْyour religionقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedالْهُدَىٰthe (true) guidanceهُدَى(is the) Guidanceاللهِ(of) Allahأَنlestيُؤْتَىٰٓis givenأَحَدٌ(to) oneمِّثْلَ(the) likeمَآ(of) whatأُوتِيتُمْwas given to youأَوْorيُحَآجُّوكُمْthey may argue with youعِندَnearرَبِّكُمْyour LordقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedالْفَضْلَthe Bountyبِيَدِ(is) in the Handاللهِ(of) AllahيُؤْتِيهِHe gives itمَن(to) whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللّٰهُand Allahوَاسِعٌ(is) All-EncompassingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing
And do not trust except those who follow your religion." Say, "Indeed, the [true] guidance is the guidance of Allah. [Do you fear] lest someone be given [knowledge] like you were given or that they would [thereby] argue with you before your Lord?" Say, "Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand of Allah - He grants it to whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Wise
يَخْتَصُّHe choosesبِرَحْمَتِهِۦfor His MercyمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahذُو(is) the Possessorالْفَضْلِ(of) Bountyالْعَظِيمِ[the] great
He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty
وَمِنْAnd fromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookمَنْ(is he) whoإِنifتَأْمَنْهُyou entrust himبِقِنطَارٍwith a great amount of wealthيُؤَدِّهِۦٓhe will return itإِلَيْكَto youوَمِنْهُمAnd from themمَّنْ(is he) whoإِنifتَأْمَنْهُyou entrust himبِدِينَارٍwith a single coinلَّاnotيُؤَدِّهِۦٓhe will return itإِلَيْكَto youإِلَّاexceptمَاthatدُمْتَyou keep constantlyعَلَيْهِover himقَآئِمًاstandingذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَالُواْsaidلَيْسَNotعَلَيْنَاon usفِىconcerningالْأُمِّيِّينَthe unlettered peopleسَبِيلٌany [way] (accountability)وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayعَلَىaboutاللهِAllahالْكَذِبَthe lieوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow
And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] silver coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned." And they speak untruth about Allah while they know [it]
بَلَىٰNayمَنْwhoeverأَوْفَىٰfulfillsبِعَهْدِهِۦhis covenantوَاتَّقَىٰand fears (Allah)فَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesالْمُتَّقِينَthose who fear (Him)
But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah - then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoيَشْتَرُونَexchangeبِعَهْدِ(the) Covenantاللهِ(of) Allahوَأَيْمَانِهِمْand their oathsثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseلَاnoخَلَاقَshareلَهُمْfor themفِىinالاٰخِرَةِthe Hereafterوَلَاand notيُكَلِّمُهُمُwill speak to themاللهُAllahوَلَاand notيَنظُرُlookإِلَيْهِمْat themيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) the Resurrectionوَلَاand notيُزَكِّيهِمْpurify themوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment
وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنْهُمْamong themلَفَرِيقًاsurely (is) a groupيَلْوُونَthey distortأَلْسِنَتَهُمtheir tonguesبِالْكِتَابِin (reciting) the Bookلِتَحْسَبُوهُso that you may think itمِنَ(is) fromالْكِتَابِthe Bookوَمَاand notهُوَitمِنَ(is) fromالْكِتَابِthe BookوَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayهُوَItمِنْ(is)عِندِfromاللهِAllahوَمَاBut notهُوَitمِنْ(is)عِندِfromاللهِAllahوَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayعَلَىaboutاللهِAllahالْكَذِبَthe lieوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know
مَاNotكَانَisلِبَشَرٍfor a humanأَنthatيُؤْتِيَهُgives himاللهُAllahالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَالْحُكْمَand the wisdomوَالنُّبُوَّةَand the Prophethoodثُمَّthenيَقُولَhe saysلِلنَّاسِto the peopleكُونُواْBeعِبَادًاworshippersلِّىof meمِنfromدُونِbesidesاللهِAllahوَلَٰكِنbut (would say)كُونُواْBeرَبَّانِيِّينَworshippers of the Lordبِمَاbecauseكُنتُمْyou have beenتُعَلِّمُونَteachingالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَبِمَاand becauseكُنتُمْyou have beenتَدْرُسُونَstudying (it)
It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allah," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied
وَلَاAnd notيَأْمُرَكُمْhe will order youأَنthatتَتَّخِذُواْyou takeالْمَلَآئِكَةَthe Angelsوَالنِّبِيِّيْنَand the Prophetsأَرْبَابًا(as) lordsأَيَأْمُرُكُمWould he order you?بِالْكُفْرِto [the] disbeliefبَعْدَafterإِذْ[when]أَنتُمyou (have become)مُّسْلِمُونَMuslims
Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَtookاللهُAllahمِيثَاقَcovenantالنَّبِيِّيْنَ(of) the ProphetsلَمَآCertainly whateverاٰتَيْتُكُمI (have) given youمِّنofكِتَابٍ(the) Bookوَحِكْمَةٍand wisdomثُمَّthenجَآءَكُمْcomes to youرَسُولٌa Messengerمُّصَدِّقٌconfirmingلِّمَاthat whichمَعَكُمْ(is) with youلَتُؤْمِنُنَّyou must believeبِهِۦin himوَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥand you must help himقَالَHe saidءَأَقْرَرْتُمْDo you affirm?وَأَخَذْتُمْand takeعَلَىٰonذَٰلِكُمْthat (condition)إِصْرِىMy Covenant?قَالُوٓاْThey saidأَقْرَرْنَاWe affirmقَالَHe saidفَاشْهَدُواْThen bear witnessوَأَنَاْand I (am)مَعَكُمwith youمِّنَamongالشَّاهِدِينَthe witnesses
And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses
فَمَنThen whoeverتَوَلَّىٰturns awayبَعْدَafterذَٰلِكَthatفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُtheyالْفَاسِقُونَ(are) the defiantly disobedient
And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient
أَفَغَيْرَSo is (it) other than?دِينِ(the) religionاللهِ(of) Allahيَبْغُونَthey seekوَلَهُۥٓWhile to Himأَسْلَمَ(have) submittedمَنwhateverفِى(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthطَوْعًاwillinglyوَكَرْهًاor unwillinglyوَإِلَيْهِand towards Himيُرْجَعُونَthey will be returned
So is it other than the religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned
قُلْSayاٰمَنَّاWe believedبِٱللّٰهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَ(is) revealedعَلَيْنَاon usوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedعَلَىٰٓonإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَاعِيلَand Ismaelوَإِسْحَٰقَand Isaacوَيَعْقُوبَand Yaqubوَالْأَسْبَاطِand the descendentsوَمَآand whatأُوتِىَwas givenمُوسَىٰ(to) Musaوَعِيسَىٰand Isaوَالنَّبِيُّونَand the Prophetsمِنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir LordلَاNotنُفَرِّقُwe make distinctionبَيْنَbetweenأَحَدٍanyمِّنْهُمْof themوَنَحْنُand weلَهُۥto Himمُسْلِمُونَ(are) submissive
Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him
وَمَنAnd whoeverيَبْتَغِseeksغَيْرَother thanالْإِسْلَامَ[the] Islamدِينًا(as) religionفَلَنthen neverيُقْبَلَwill be acceptedمِنْهُfrom himوَهُوَand heفِىinالاٰخِرَةِthe Hereafterمِنَ(will be) fromالْخَاسِرِينَthe losers
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers
كَيْفَHow?يَهْدِى(shall) guideاللهُAllahقَوْمًاa peopleكَفَرُواْ(who) disbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِهِمْtheir beliefوَشَهِدُواْand (had) witnessedأَنَّthatالرَّسُولَthe Messengerحَقٌّ(is) trueوَجَآءَهُمُand came to themالْبَيِّنَاتُthe clear proofsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيَهْدِىguideالْقَوْمَthe peopleالظَّالِمِينَ[the] wrongdoers
How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseجَزَآؤُهُمْtheir recompenseأَنَّthatعَلَيْهِمْon themلَعْنَةَ(is the) curseاللهِ(of) Allahوَالْمَلَآئِكَةِand the Angelsوَالنَّاسِand the peopleأَجْمَعِينَall together
Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allah and the angels and the people, all together
خَالِدِينَ(They will) abide foreverفِيهَاin itلَاNotيُخَفَّفُwill be lightenedعَنْهُمُfor themالْعَذَابُthe punishmentوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنظَرُونَwill be reprieved
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved
إِلَّاExceptالَّذِينَthose whoتَابُواْrepentمِنfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatوَأَصْلَحُواْand reform[ed] themselvesفَإِنَّThen indeedاللهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful
Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves. For indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِهِمْtheir beliefثُمَّthenازْدَادُواْthey increasedكُفْرًا(in) disbeliefلَّنneverتُقْبَلَwill be acceptedتَوْبَتُهُمْtheir repentanceوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَand thoseهُمُtheyالضَّآلُّونَ(are) those who have gone astray
Indeed, those who reject the message after their belief and then increase in disbelief - never will their [claimed] repentance be accepted, and they are the ones astray
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieve[d]وَمَاتُواْand diedوَهُمْwhile theyكُفَّارٌ(are) disbelieversفَلَنthen neverيُقْبَلَwill be acceptedمِنْfromأَحَدِهِمany one of themمِّلْءُfullالْأَرْضِearthذَهَبًا(of) goldوَلَوِ[and] (even) ifافْتَدَىٰhe offered as ransomبِهِۦٓwith itأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainfulوَمَاand notلَهُم(will be) for themمِّنanyنَّاصِرِينَhelpers
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers
لَنNeverتَنَالُواْwill you attainالْبِرَّ[the] righteousnessحَتَّىٰuntilتُنفِقُواْyou spendمِمَّاfrom whatتُحِبُّونَyou loveوَمَاAnd whateverتُنفِقُواْyou spendمِنofشَىْءٍa thingفَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahبِهِۦof itعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Knowing
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it
كُلُّAllالطَّعَامِ[the] foodكَانَwasحِـلاًّlawfulلِّبَنِىٓfor (the) Childrenإِسْرَائِيلَ(of) Israelإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatحَرَّمَmade unlawfulإِسْرَائِيلُIsraelعَلَىٰuponنَفْسِهِۦhimselfمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تُنَزَّلَ(was) revealedالتَّوْرَاةُthe TauratقُلْSayفَأْتُواْSo bringبِالتَّوْرَاةِthe Tauratفَاتْلُوهَآand recite itإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَادِقِينَtruthful
All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muhammad], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful
فَمَنِThen whoeverافْتَرَىٰfabricatesعَلَىaboutاللهِAllahالْكَذِبَ[the] lieمِنfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُtheyالظَّالِمُونَ(are) the wrongdoers
And whoever invents about Allah untruth after that - then those are [truly] the wrongdoers
قُلْSayصَدَقَ(has) spoken the truthاللهُAllahفَاتَّبِعُواْthen followمِلَّةَ(the) religionإِبْرَاهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimحَنِيفًا(the) uprightوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَofالْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists
Say, "Allah has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of the polytheists
إِنَّIndeedأَوَّلَ(the) FirstبَيْتٍHouseوُضِعَset upلِلنَّاسِfor the mankindلَلَّذِى(is) the one whichبِبَكَّةَ(is) at Bakkahمُبَارَكًاblessedوَهُدًىand a guidanceلِّلْعَالَمِينَfor the worlds
Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds
فِيهِIn itاٰيَاتٌ(are) signsبَيِّـنَاتٌclearمَّقَامُstanding placeإِبْرَاهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimوَمَنand whoeverدَخَلَهُenters itكَانَisاٰمِنًاsafeوَلِلّٰهِAnd (due) to Allahعَلَىuponالنَّاسِthe mankindحِجُّ(is) pilgrimageالْبَيْتِ(of) the Houseمَنِ(for one) whoاسْتَطَاعَis ableإِلَيْهِto [it]سَبِيلًا(find) a wayوَمَنAnd whoeverكَفَرَdisbelievedفَإِنَّthen indeedاللهَAllahغَنِىٌّ(is) free from needعَنِofالْعَالَمِينَthe universe
In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds
قُلْSayيَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!لِمَWhy?تَكْفُرُونَ(do) you disbelieveبِاٰيَاتِin (the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahوَٱللّٰهُwhile Allahشَهِيدٌ(is) a Witnessعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatتَعْمَلُونَyou do
Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah while Allah is Witness over what you do
قُلْSayيَاأَهْلَO Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Book!لِمَWhy?تَصُدُّونَ(do) you hinderعَنfromسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) Allahمَنْ(those) whoاٰمَنَbelieve[d]تَبْغُونَهَاseeking (to make) itعِوَجًا(seem) crookedوَأَنتُمْwhile youشُهَدَآءُ(are) witnessesوَمَاAnd notاللهُAllahبِغَافِلٍ(is) unawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do
Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you avert from the way of Allah those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allah is not unaware of what you do
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]!إِنIfتُطِيعُواْyou obeyفَرِيقًاa groupمِّنَfromالَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُواْwere givenالْكِتَابَthe Bookيَرُدُّوكُمthey will turn you backبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِكُمْyour beliefكَافِرِينَ(as) disbelievers
O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers
وَكَيْفَAnd how (could)?تَكْفُرُونَyou disbelieveوَأَنتُمْwhile [you]تُتْلَىٰis recitedعَلَيْكُمْupon youاٰيَاتُ(the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahوَفِيكُمْand among youرَسُولُهُۥ(is) His MessengerوَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْتَصِمholds firmlyبِٱللّٰهِto Allahفَقَدْthen surelyهُدِىَhe is guidedإِلَىٰtoصِرَاطٍa pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍstraight
And how could you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of Allah and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allah has [indeed] been guided to a straight path
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]!اتَّقُواْFearاللهَAllahحَقَّ(as is His) rightتُقَاتِهِۦ(that) He (should) be fearedوَلَاand (do) notتَمُوتُنَّdieإِلَّاexceptوَأَنتُم[while you]مُّسْلِمُونَ(as) Muslims
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]
وَاعْتَصِمُواْAnd hold firmlyبِحَبْلِto (the) ropeاللهِ(of) Allahجَمِيعًاall togetherوَلَاand (do) notتَفَرَّقُوٓاْbe dividedوَاذْكُرُواْAnd rememberنِعْمَتَ(the) Favorاللهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْon youإِذْwhenكُنتُمْyou wereأَعْدَآءًenemiesفَأَلَّفَthen He made friendshipبَيْنَbetweenقُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsفَأَصْبَحْتُمthen you becameبِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓby His FavorإِخْوَانًاbrothersوَكُنتُمْAnd you wereعَلَىٰonشَفَا(the) brinkحُفْرَةٍ(of) pitمِّنَofالنَّارِthe Fireفَأَنقَذَكُمthen He saved youمِّنْهَاfrom itكَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearاللهُAllahلَكُمْfor youآيَاتِهِۦHis Versesلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَهْتَدُونَ(be) guided
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided
وَلْتَكُنAnd let there beمِّنكُمْamong youأُمَّةٌ[a] peopleيَدْعُونَinvitingإِلَىtoالْخَيْرِthe goodوَيَأْمُرُونَ[and] enjoiningبِالْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِfromالْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَand thoseهُمُtheyالْمُفْلِحُونَ(are) the successful ones
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَكُونُواْbeكَالَّذِينَlike those whoتَفَرَّقُوٓاْbecame dividedوَاخْتَلَفُواْand differedمِنfromبَعْدِafterمَاwhatجَآءَهُمُcame to themالْبَيِّنَاتُthe clear proofsوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat
And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment
يَوْمَ(On the) Dayتَبْيَضُّwould become whiteوُجُوهٌ(some) facesوَتَسْوَدُّand would become blackوُجُوهٌ(some) facesفَأَمَّاAs forالَّذِينَthose whoseاسْوَدَّتْturn blackوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] facesأَكْفَرْتُمDid you disbelieve?بَعْدَafterإِيمَانِكُمْyour beliefفَذُوقُواْThen tasteالْعَذَابَthe punishmentبِمَاfor whatكُنْتُمْyou used toتَكْفُرُونَdisbelieve
On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], "Did you disbelieve after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject
وَأَمَّاBut as forالَّذِينَthose whoseابْيَضَّتْturn whiteوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] facesفَفِىthen (they will be) inرَحْمَةِ(the) Mercyاللهِ(of) Allahهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَالِدُونَ(will) abide forever
But as for those whose faces will turn white, [they will be] within the mercy of Allah. They will abide therein eternally
تِلْكَTheseاٰيَاتُ(are the) Versesاللهِ(of) AllahنَتْلُوهَاWe recite themعَلَيْكَto youبِالْحَقِّin truthوَمَاAnd notاللهُAllahيُرِيدُwantsظُلْمًاinjusticeلِّلْعَالَمِينَto the worlds
These are the verses of Allah. We recite them to you, [O Muhammad], in truth; and Allah wants no injustice to the worlds
وَلِلّٰهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhateverفِى(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَمَاand whateverفِى(is) inالْأَرْضِthe earthوَإِلَىAnd toاللهِAllahتُرْجَعُwill be returnedالْأُمُورُthe matters
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And to Allah will [all] matters be returned
كُنتُمْYou areخَيْرَ(the) bestأُمَّةٍ(of) peopleأُخْرِجَتْraisedلِلنَّاسِfor the mankindتَأْمُرُونَenjoiningبِالْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَتَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِ[from]الْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَتُؤْمِنُونَand believingبِٱللّٰهِin AllahوَلَوْAnd ifاٰمَنَbelievedأَهْلُ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookلَكَانَsurely would have beenخَيْرًاgoodلَّهُمfor themمِّنْهُمُAmong themالْمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) [the] believersوَأَكْثَرُهُمُbut most of themالْفَاسِقُونَ(are) defiantly disobedient
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient
لَنNeverيَضُرُّوكُمْwill they harm youإِلَّآexceptأَذًىa hurtوَإِنAnd ifيُقَاتِلُوكُمْthey fight youيُوَلُّوكُمُthey will turn (towards) youالْأَدُبَارَthe backsثُمَّthenلَاnotيُنصَرُونَthey will be helped
They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance. And if they fight you, they will show you their backs; then they will not be aided
ضُرِبَتْStruckعَلَيْهِمُon themالذِّلَّةُthe humiliationأَيْنَwhereverمَاthatثُقِفُوٓاْthey are foundإِلَّاexceptبِحَبْلٍwith a ropeمِّنْfromاللهِAllahوَحَبْلٍand a ropeمِّنَfromالنَّاسِthe peopleوَبَآءُوAnd they incurredبِغَضَبٍwrathمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَضُرِبَتْand struckعَلَيْهِمُon themالْمَسْكَنَةُthe povertyذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) becauseكَانُواْthey used toيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِاٰيَاتِin (the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killedالْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe ProphetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّrightذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseعَصَواthey disobeyedوَّكَانُواْand they used toيَعْتَدُونَtransgress
They have been put under humiliation [by Allah] wherever they are overtaken, except for a covenant from Allah and a rope from the Muslims. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed
لَيْسُواْThey are notسَوَآءً(the) sameمِّنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookأُمَّةٌ(is) a communityقَآئِمَةٌstandingيَتْلُونَ(and) recitingاٰيَاتِ(the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahاٰنَآءَ(in the) hoursالَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَهُمْand theyيَسْجُدُونَprostrate
They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allah during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer]
يُؤْمِنُونَThey believeبِٱللّٰهِin Allahوَالْيَوْمِand the Dayالاٰخِرِthe Lastوَيَأْمُرُونَand they enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوفِ[with] the rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِ[from]الْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَيُسَارِعُونَand they hastenفِىinالْخَيْرَاتِthe good deedsوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseمِنَ(are) fromالصَّالِحِينَthe righteous
They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to good deeds. And those are among the righteous
وَمَاAnd whateverيَفْعَلُواْthey doمِنْofخَيْرٍa goodفَلَنthen neverيُكْفَرُوْهُwill they be denied itوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Knowingبِالْمُتَّقِينَof the God-fearing
And whatever good they do - never will it be removed from them. And Allah is Knowing of the righteous
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelievedلَنneverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنْهُمْ[for] themأَمْوَالُهُمْtheir wealthوَلَآand notأَوْلَادُهُمtheir childrenمِّنَagainstاللهِAllahشَيْئًاanythingوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَand thoseأَصْحَابُ(are the) companionsالنَّارِ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَالِدُونَ(will) abide forever
Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally
مَثَلُExampleمَا(of) whatيُنفِقُونَthey spendفِىinهَٰذِهِthisالْحَيَاةِ[the] lifeالدُّنْيَا(of) the worldكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleرِيحٍ(of) a windفِيهَاin itصِرٌّ(is) frostأَصَابَتْit struckحَرْثَ(the) harvestقَوْمٍ(of) a peopleظَلَمُوٓاْwho wrongedأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesفَأَهْلَكَتْهُthen destroyed itوَمَاAnd notظَلَمَهُمُ(has) wronged themاللهُAllahوَلَٰكِنْ[and] butأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesيَظْلِمُونَthey wronged
The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves and destroys it. And Allah has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]!لَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُواْtakeبِطَانَةً(as) intimatesمِّنfromدُونِكُمْother than yourselvesلَاnotيَأْلُونَكُمْthey will spare youخَبَالًا(any) ruinوَدُّواْThey wishمَاwhatعَنِتُّمْdistresses youقَدْIndeedبَدَتِ(has become) apparentالْبَغْضَآءُthe hatredمِنْfromأَفْوَاهِهِمْtheir mouthsوَمَاand whatتُخْفِىconcealsصُدُورُهُمْtheir breastsأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterقَدْCertainlyبَيَّنَّاWe made clearلَكُمُfor youالاٰيَاتِthe Versesإِنifكُنتُمْyou wereتَعْقِلُونَ(to use) reason
O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves, for they will not spare you [any] ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs, if you will use reason
هَٰٓأَنتُمْLo! You areأُوْلَآءِthoseتُحِبُّونَهُمْyou love themوَلَاbut notيُحِبُّونَكُمْthey love youوَتُؤْمِنُونَand you believeبِالْكِتَابِin the Bookكُلِّهِۦall of itوَإِذَاAnd whenلَقُوكُمْthey meet youقَالُوٓاْthey sayاٰمَنَّاWe believeوَإِذَاAnd whenخَلَواْthey are aloneعَضُّواْthey biteعَلَيْكُمُat youالْأَنَامِلَthe finger tipsمِنَ(out) ofالْغَيْظِ[the] rageقُلْSayمُوتُواْDieبِغَيْظِكُمْin your rageإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Knowingبِذَاتِof whatالصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts
Here you are loving them but they are not loving you, while you believe in the Scripture - all of it. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts
إِنIfتَمْسَسْكُمْtouches youحَسَنَةٌa goodتَسُؤْهُمْit grieves themوَإِنand ifتُصِبْكُمْstrikes youسَيِّئَةٌmisfortuneيَفْرَحُواْthey rejoiceبِهَاat itوَإِنAnd ifتَصْبِرُواْyou are patientوَتَتَّقُواْand fear (Allah)لَاnotيَضُرُّكُمْwill harm youكَيْدُهُمْtheir plotشَيْئًا(in) anythingإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey doمُحِيطٌ(is) All-Encompassing
If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah is encompassing of what they do
وَإِذْAnd whenغَدَوْتَyou left early morningمِنْfromأَهْلِكَyour householdتُبَوِّئُto postالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersمَقَاعِدَ(to take) positionsلِلْقِتَالِfor the battleوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing
And [remember] when you, [O Muhammad], left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle [of Uhud] - and Allah is Hearing and Knowing
إِذْWhenهَمَّتinclinedطَّآئِفَتَانِtwo partiesمِنكُمْamong youأَنthatتَفْشَلَاboth lost heartوَٱللّٰهُbut Allahوَلِيُّهُمَا(was) protector of bothوَعَلَىAnd onاللهِAllahفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustالْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers
When two parties among you were about to lose courage, but Allah was their ally; and upon Allah the believers should rely
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyنَصَرَكُمُhelped youاللهُAllahبِبَدْرٍin Badrوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)أَذِلَّةٌweakفَاتَّقُواْSo fearاللهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful
And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful
إِذْWhenتَقُولُyou saidلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersأَلَنIs it not?يَكْفِيَكُمْenough for youأَنthatيُمِدَّكُمْreinforces youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِثَلَاثَةِwith threeاٰلَافٍۢthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]الْمَلَآئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُنزَلِينَ[the ones] sent down
[Remember] when you said to the believers, "Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down
بَلَىٰٓYesإِنifتَصْبِرُواْyou are patientوَتَتَّقُواْand fear (Allah)وَيَأْتُوكُمand they come upon youمِّن[of]فَوْرِهِمْsuddenlyهَٰذَا[this]يُمْدِدْكُمْwill reinforce youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِخَمْسَةِwith fiveاٰلَافٍۢthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]الْمَلَآئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُسَوِّمِينَ[the ones] having marks
Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and the enemy come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]
وَمَاAnd notجَعَلَهُmade itاللهُAllahإِلَّاexceptبُشْرَى(as) good newsلَكُمْfor youوَلِتَطْمَئِنَّand to reassureقُلُوبُكُمyour heartsبِهِۦwith itوَمَاAnd (there is) noالنَّصْرُ[the] victoryإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromعِندِ[near]اللهِAllahالْعَزِيزِthe All-Mightyالْحَكِيمِthe All-Wise
And Allah made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise
لِيَقْطَعَThat He may cut offطَرَفًاa partمِّنَofالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓاdisbelievedأَوْorيَكْبِتَهُمْsuppress themفَيَنقَلِبُواْso (that) they turn backخَآئِبِينَdisappointed
That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed
لَيْسَNotلَكَfor youمِنَofالْأَمْرِthe decisionشَىْءٌ(of) anythingأَوْwhetherيَتُوبَHe turnsعَلَيْهِمْto themأَوْorيُعَذِّبَهُمْpunishes themفَإِنَّهُمْfor indeed theyظَالِمُونَ(are) wrongdoers
Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers
وَلِلّٰهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhatفِى(is) inالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَمَاand whatفِى(is) inالْأَرْضِthe earthيَغْفِرُHe forgivesلِمَن[for] whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَيُعَذِّبُand punishesمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve!لَا(Do) notتَأْكُلُواْeatالرِّبَوٰٓا۟the usuryأَضْعَافًاdoubledمُّضَاعَفَةًmultipliedوَاتَّقُواْAnd fearاللهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful
O you who have believed, do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, but fear Allah that you may be successful
وَاتَّقُواْAnd fearالنَّارَthe Fireالَّتِىٓwhichأُعِدَّتْis preparedلِلْكَافِرِينَfor the disbelievers
And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers
وَأَطِيعُواْAnd obeyاللهَAllahوَالرَّسُولَand the Messengerلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُرْحَمُونَreceive mercy
And obey Allah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy
وَسَارِعُوٓاْAnd hastenإِلَىٰtoمَغْفِرَةٍforgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَجَنَّةٍand a Gardenعَرْضُهَاits widthالسَّمَاوَاتُ(is like that of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضُand the earthأُعِدَّتْpreparedلِلْمُتَّقِينَfor the pious
And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous
الَّذِينَThose whoيُنفِقُونَspendفِىinالسَّرَّآءِ[the] easeوَالضَّرَّآءِand (in) the hardshipوَالْكَاظِمِينَand those who restrainالْغَيْظَthe angerوَالْعَافِينَand those who pardonعَنِ[from]النَّاسِthe peopleوَٱللّٰهُand Allahيُحِبُّlovesالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good
وَالَّذِينَAnd thoseإِذَاwhenفَعَلُواْthey didفَاحِشَةًimmoralityأَوْorظَلَمُوٓاْwrongedأَنْفُسَهُمْthemselvesذَكَرُواْthey rememberاللهَAllahفَاسْتَغْفَرُواْthen ask forgivenessلِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sinsوَمَنand who?يَغْفِرُ(can) forgiveالذُّنُوبَthe sinsإِلَّاexceptاللهُAllahوَلَمْAnd notيُصِرُّواْthey persistعَلَىٰonمَاwhatفَعَلُواْthey didوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseجَزَآؤُهُمtheir rewardمَّغْفِرَةٌ(is) forgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَجَنَّاتٌand Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itالْأَنْهَارُthe riversخَالِدِينَabiding foreverفِيهَاin itوَنِعْمَAnd an excellentأَجْرُrewardالْعَامِلِينَ(for) the (righteous) workers
Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers
قَدْVerilyخَلَتْpassedمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youسُنَنٌsituationsفَسِيرُواْthen travelفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthفَانْظُرُواْand seeكَيْفَhow?كَانَwasعَاقِبَةُ(the) endالْمُكَذَّبِينَ(of) the deniers
Similar situations [as yours] have passed on before you, so proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied
هَٰذَاThisبَيَانٌ(is) a declarationلِّلنَّاسِfor the peopleوَهُدًىand guidanceوَمَوْعِظَةٌand admonitionلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor the God-fearing
This [Qur'an] is a clear statement to [all] the people and a guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allah
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَهِنُواweakenوَلَاand (do) notتَحْزَنُواgrieveوَأَنتُمُand you (will be)الْأَعْلَوْنَ[the] superiorإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers
So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers
إِنIfيَمْسَسْكُمْtouched youقَرْحٌa woundفَقَدْso certainlyمَسَّ(has) touchedالْقَوْمَthe peopleقَرْحٌwoundمِّثْلُهُۥlike itوَتِلْكَAnd thisالْأيَّامُ[the] daysنُدَاوِلُهَاWe alternate themبَيْنَamongالنَّاسِthe peopleوَلِيَعْلَمَ[and] so that makes evidentاللهُAllahالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]وَيَتَّخِذَand takeمِنكُمْfrom youشُهَدَآءَmartyrsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers
If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allah does not like the wrongdoers
وَلِيُمَحِّصَAnd so that may purifyاللهُAllahالَّذِينَthose whoاٰمَنُواْbelieveوَيَمْحَقَand destroyالْكَافِرِينَthe disbelievers
And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers
أَمْOrحَسِبْتُمْdo you thinkأَنthatتَدْخُلُواْyou will enterالْجَنَّةَParadiseوَلَمَّاwhile has not yetيَعْلَمِmade evidentاللهُAllahالَّذِينَthose whoجَاهَدُواْstrove hardمِنكُمْamong youوَيَعْلَمَand made evidentالصَّابِرِينَthe steadfast
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكُنتُمْyou used toتَمَنَّوْنَwishالْمَوْتَ(for) deathمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَلْقَوْهُyou met itفَقَدْthen indeedرَأَيْتُمُوهُyou have seen itوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)تَنظُرُونَlooking on
And you had certainly wished for martyrdom before you encountered it, and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on
وَمَاAnd notمُحَمَّدٌ(is) Muhammadإِلَّاexceptرَسُولٌa Messengerقَدْcertainlyخَلَتْpassed awayمِنfromقَبْلِهِbefore himالرُّسُلُ[the] (other) MessengersأَفَإِنSo if?مَّاتَhe diedأَوْorقُتِلَis slainانقَلَبْتُمْwill you turn backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَابِكُمْyour heelsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَنقَلِبْturns backعَلَىٰonعَقِبَيْهِhis heelsفَلَنthen neverيَضُرَّwill he harmاللهَAllahشَيْئًا(in) anythingوَسَيَجْزِىAnd will rewardاللهُAllahالشَّاكِرِينَthe grateful ones
Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all; but Allah will reward the grateful
وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَفْسٍfor a soulأَنthatتَمُوتَhe diesإِلَّاexceptبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionاللهِ(of) Allahكِتَابًا(at a) decreeمُّؤَجَّلًاdeterminedوَمَنAnd whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardالدُّنْيَا(of) the worldنُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَاthereofوَمَنand whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardالاٰخِرَةِ(of) the HereafterنُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَاthereofوَسَنَجْزِىAnd We will rewardالشَّاكِرِينَthe grateful ones
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful
وَكَأَيِّنAnd how manyمِّنfromنَّبِىٍّۢa Prophetقَاتَلَfoughtمَعَهُۥwith himرِبِّيُّونَ(were) religious scholarsكَثِيرٌmanyفَمَاBut notوَهَنُواْthey lost heartلِمَآfor whatأَصَابَهُمْbefell themفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) Allahوَمَاand notضَعُفُواْthey weakenedوَمَاand notاسْتَكَانُواْthey gave inوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesالصَّابِرِينَthe patient ones
And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the steadfast
وَمَاAnd notكَانَwereقَوْلَهُمْtheir wordsإِلَّآexceptأَنthatقَالُواْthey saidرَبَّنَاOur Lordاغْفِرْforgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَإِسْرَافَنَاand our excessesفِىٓinأَمْرِنَاour affairsوَثَبِّتْand make firmأَقْدَامَنَاour feetوَانصُرْنَاand give us victoryعَلَىoverالْقَوْمِ[the people]الْكَافِرِينَthe disbelievers
And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people
فَـَٔاتَاهُمُSo gave themاللهُAllahثَوَابَrewardالدُّنْيَا(in) the worldوَحُسْنَand goodثَوَابِrewardالاٰخِرَةِ(in) the HereafterوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesالْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers
So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the good reward of the Hereafter. And Allah loves the doers of good
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve!إِنIfتُطِيعُواْyou obeyالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieveيَرُدُّوكُمْthey will turn you backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَابِكُمْyour heelsفَتَنقَلِبُواْthen you will turn backخَاسِرِينَ(as) losers
O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers
بَلِNayاللهُAllahمَوْلَاكُمْ(is) your Protectorوَهُوَand Heخَيْرُ(is the) bestالنَّاصِرِينَ(of) the Helpers
But Allah is your protector, and He is the best of helpers
سَنُلْقِىWe will castفِىinقُلُوبِ(the) heartsالَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُواْdisbelieveالرُّعْبَ[the] terror, [the] fearبِمَآbecauseأَشْرَكُواْthey associated partnersبِٱللّٰهِwith AllahمَاwhatلَمْnotيُنَزِّلْHe sent downبِهِۦabout itسُلْطَانًاany authorityوَمَأْوَىٰهُمُand their refugeالنَّارُ(will be) the Fireوَبِئْسَand wretchedمَثْوَى(is the) abodeالظَّالِمِينَ[of] the wrongdoers
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyصَدَقَكُمُfulfilled to youاللهُAllahوَعْدَهُۥٓHis promiseإِذْwhenتَحُسُّونَهُمyou were killing themبِإِذْنِهِۦby His permissionحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenفَشِلْتُمْyou lost courageوَتَنَازَعْتُمْand you fell into disputeفِىconcerningالْأَمْرِthe orderوَعَصَيْتُمand you disobeyedمِّنْfromبَعْدِafterمَآ[what]أَرَاكُمHe (had) shown youمَّاwhatتُحِبُّونَyou loveمِنكُمAmong youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَمِنكُمand among youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireالاٰخِرَةَthe HereafterثُمَّThenصَرَفَكُمْHe diverted youعَنْهُمْfrom themلِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْso that He may test youوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاHe forgaveعَنكُمْyouوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahذُو(is the) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَلَىforالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
And Allah had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing the enemy by His permission until [the time] when you lost courage and fell to disputing about the order [given by the Prophet] and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you love. Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then he turned you back from them [defeated] that He might test you. And He has already forgiven you, and Allah is the possessor of bounty for the believers
إِذْWhenتُصْعِدُونَyou were running uphillوَلَاand notتَلْوُونَcasting a glanceعَلَىٰٓonأحَدٍanyoneوَالرَّسُولُwhile the Messengerيَدْعُوكُمْwas calling youفِىٓ[in]أُخْرَاكُمْ(from) behind youفَأَثَابَكُمْSo (He) repaid youغُمَّاً(with) distressبِغَمٍّon distressلِّكَيْلَاso that notتَحْزَنُواْyou grieveعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatفَاتَكُمْescaped youوَلَاand notمَآwhatأَصَابَكُمْ(had) befallen youوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahخَبِيرٌ(is) All-Awareبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do
[Remember] when you [fled and] climbed [the mountain] without looking aside at anyone while the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allah repaid you with distress upon distress so you would not grieve for that which had escaped you [of victory and spoils of war] or [for] that which had befallen you [of injury and death]. And Allah is [fully] Acquainted with what you do
ثُمَّThenأَنزَلَHe sent downعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّنْfromبَعْدِafterالْغَمِّthe distressأَمَنَةًsecurityنُّعَاسًاslumberيَغْشَىٰovercomingطَآئِفَةًa groupمِّنكُمْof youوَطَآئِفَةٌwhile a groupقَدْcertainlyأَهَمَّتْهُمْworried [them]أَنفُسُهُمْ(about) themselvesيَظُنُّونَthinkingبِٱللّٰهِabout Allahغَيْرَother thanالْحَقِّthe truthظَنَّ(the) thoughtالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ(of) [the] ignoranceيَقُولُونَsayingهَلIs (there)?لَّنَاfor usمِنَfromالْأَمْرِthe matterمِنanyشَىْءٍthingقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedالْأَمْرَthe matterكُلَّهُۥall (of) itلِلّٰهِ(is) for AllahيُخْفُونَThey hideفِىٓinأَنفُسِهِمthemselvesمَّاwhatلَاnotيُبْدُونَthey revealلَكَto youيَقُولُونَThey sayلَوْIfكَانَwasلَنَاfor usمِنَfromالْأَمْرِthe matterشَىْءٌanythingمَّاnotقُتِلْنَاwe would have been killedهَاهُنَاhereقُلSayلَّوْIfكُنتُمْyou wereفِىinبُيُوتِكُمْyour housesلَبَرَزَsurely (would have) come outالَّذِينَthose whoكُتِبَwas decreedعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْقَتْلُ[the] deathإِلَىٰtowardsمَضَاجِعِهِمْtheir places of deathوَلِيَبْتَلِىَAnd that might testاللهُAllahمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsوَلِيُمَحَّصَand that He may purgeمَاwhatفِى(is) inقُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Awareبِذَاتِof whatالصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts
Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, while another faction worried about themselves, thinking of Allah other than the truth - the thought of ignorance, saying, "Is there anything for us [to have done] in this matter?" Say, "Indeed, the matter belongs completely to Allah." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal to you. They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, some of us would not have been killed right here." Say, "Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." [It was] so that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoتَوَلَّواْturned backمِنكُمْamong youيَوْمَ(on the) dayالْتَقَىmetالْجَمْعَانِthe two hostsإِنَّمَاonlyاسْتَزَلَّهُمُmade them slipالشَّيْطَانُthe Shaitaanبِبَعْضِfor someمَا(of) whatكَسَبُواْthey (had) earnedوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاforgaveاللهُAllahعَنْهُمْ[on] themإِنَّindeedاللهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌAll-Forbearing
Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met, it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allah has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]!لَا(Do) notتَكُونُواْbeكَالَّذِينَlike those whoكَفَرُواْdisbelievedوَقَالُواْand they saidلِإِخْوَانِهِمْabout their brothersإِذَاwhenضَرَبُواْthey traveledفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthأَوْorكَانُواْthey wereغُزًّىfightingلَّوْIfكَانُواْthey had beenعِندَنَاwith usمَاnotمَاتُواْthey (would have) diedوَمَاand notقُتِلُواْthey (would have) been killedلِيَجْعَلَSo makesاللهُAllahذَٰلِكَthatحَسْرَةًa regretفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahيُحْىِۦgives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathوَٱللّٰهُand Allahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do
وَلَئِنAnd ifقُتِلْتُمْyou are killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) Allahأَوْorمُتُّمْdie[d]لَمَغْفِرَةٌcertainly forgivenessمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَرَحْمَةٌand Mercyخَيْرٌ(are) betterمِّمَّاthan whatيَجْمَعُونَthey accumulate
And if you are killed in the cause of Allah or die - then forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate [in this world]
وَلَئِنAnd ifمُّتُّمْyou dieأَوْorقُتِلْتُمْare killedلَإِلَىsurely toاللهِAllahتُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered
And whether you die or are killed, unto Allah you will be gathered
فَبِمَاSo becauseرَحْمَةٍ(of) MercyمِّنَfromاللهِAllahلِنتَyou dealt gentlyلَهُمْwith themوَلَوْAnd ifكُنتَyou had beenفَظًّاrudeغَلِيظَ(and) harshالْقَلْبِ(at) [the] heartلَانفَضُّواْsurely they (would have) dispersedمِنْfromحَوْلِكَaround youفَاعْفُThen pardonعَنْهُمْ[from] themوَاسْتَغْفِرْand ask forgivenessلَهُمْfor themوَشَاوِرْهُمْand consult themفِىinالْأَمْرِthe matterفَإِذَاThen whenعَزَمْتَyou have decidedفَتَوَكَّلْthen put trustعَلَىonاللهِAllahإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesالْمُتَوَكِّلِينَthe ones who put trust (in Him)
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]
إِنIfيَنصُرْكُمُhelps youاللهُAllahفَلَاthen notغَالِبَ(can) overcomeلَكُمْ[for] youوَإِنand ifيَخْذُلْكُمْHe forsakes youفَمَنthen who?ذَا(is)الَّذِىthe one whoيَنصُرُكُمcan help youمِّنْfromبَعْدِهِۦafter HimوَعَلَىAnd onاللهِAllahفَلْيَتَوَكِّلِlet put (their) trustالْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers
If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely
وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَبِىٍّۢfor a Prophetأَنthatيَغُلَّhe defraudsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَغْلُلْdefraudsيَأْتِwill bringبِمَاwhatغَلَّhe had defraudedيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) ResurrectionثُمَّThenتُوَفَّىٰis repaid in fullكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَّاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged
It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty]. And whoever betrays, [taking unlawfully], will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection. Then will every soul be [fully] compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged
أَفَمَنِSo is (the one) who?اتَّبَعَpursuesرِضْوَانَ(the) pleasureاللهِ(of) Allahكَمَنlike (the one) whoبَآءَdrawsبِسَخْطٍon (himself) wrathمِّنَofاللهِAllahوَمَأْوَاهُand his abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) hellوَبِئْسَand wretchedالْمَصِيرُ(is) the destination
So is one who pursues the pleasure of Allah like one who brings upon himself the anger of Allah and whose refuge is Hell? And wretched is the destination
هُمْTheyدَرَجَاتٌ(are in varying) degreesعِندَnearاللهِAllahوَٱللّٰهُand Allahبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seerبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey do
They are [varying] degrees in the sight of Allah, and Allah is Seeing of whatever they do
لَقَدْCertainlyمَنَّbestowed a FavorاللهُAllahعَلَىuponالْمُؤمِنِينَthe believersإِذْasبَعَثَHe raisedفِيهِمْamong themرَسُولًاa Messengerمِّنْfromأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesيَتْلُواrecitingعَلَيْهِمْto themاٰيَاتِهِۦHis Versesوَيُزَكِّيهِمْand purifying themوَيُعَلِّمُهُمُand teaching themالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَالْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَإِنalthoughكَانُواْthey wereمِنfromقَبْلُbefore (that)لَفِىcertainly inضَلالٍ(the) errorمُّبِينٍclear
Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error
أَوَلَمَّآOr when?أَصَابَتْكُمstruck youمُّصِيبَةٌdisasterقَدْsurelyأَصَبْتُمyou (had) struck (them)مِّثْلَيْهَاtwice of itقُلْتُمْyou saidأَنَّىٰFrom where?هَٰذَا(is) thisقُلْSayهُوَItمِنْ(is)عِندِfromأَنْفُسِكُمْyourselvesإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful
Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves." Indeed, Allah is over all things competent
وَمَآAnd whatأَصَابَكُمْstruck youيَوْمَ(on the) dayالْتَقَى(when) metالْجَمْعَانِthe two hostsفَبِإِذْنِ(was) by (the) permissionاللهِ(of) Allahوَلِيَعْلَمَand that He (might) make evidentالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
And what struck you on the day the two armies met was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the [true] believers
وَلِيَعْلَمَAnd that He (might) make evidentالَّذِينَthose whoنَافَقُواْ(are) hypocritesوَقِيلَAnd it was saidلَهُمْto themتَعَالَواْComeقَاتِلُواْfightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) AllahأَوِorادْفَعُواْdefendقَالُواْThey saidلَوْIfنَعْلَمُwe knewقِتَالًاfightingلَّاتَّبَعْنَاكُمْcertainly we (would have) followed youهُمْTheyلِلْكُفْرِto disbeliefيَوْمَئِذٍthat dayأَقْرَبُ(were) nearerمِنْهُمْthan [them]لِلإِيمَانِto the faithيَقُولُونَsayingبِأَفْوَاهِهِمwith their mouthsمَّاwhatلَيْسَwas notفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُ(is) Most Knowingبِمَاof whatيَكْتُمُونَthey conceal
And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allah or [at least] defend." They said, "If we had known [there would be] fighting, we would have followed you." They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah is most Knowing of what they conceal
الَّذِينَThose whoقَالُواْsaidلِإِخْوَانِهِمْabout their brothersوَقَعَدُواْwhile they satلَوْIfأَطَاعُونَاthey (had) obeyed usمَاnotقُتِلُواthey would have been killedقُلْSayفَادْرَءُواThen avertعَنْfromأَنفُسِكُمُyourselvesالْمَوْتَ[the] deathإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَادِقِينَtruthful
Those who said about their brothers while sitting [at home], "If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed." Say, "Then prevent death from yourselves, if you should be truthful
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّyou thinkالَّذِينَ(of) those whoقُتِلُواْare killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayاللهِ(of) Allahأَمْوَاتًا(as) deadبَلْNay!أَحْيَآءٌThey are aliveعِندَnearرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيُرْزَقُونَthey are given provision
And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision
فَرِحِينَRejoicingبِمَآin whatاٰتَاهُمُbestowed themاللهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyوَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَand they receive good tidingsبِالَّذِينَabout those whoلَمْ(have) notيَلْحَقُواْyet joinedبِهِم[with] themمِّنْ[from]خَلْفِهِمْ(but are) left behindأَلَّاthat (there will be) noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْon themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve
Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve
يَسْتَبْشِرُونَThey receive good tidingsبِنِعْمَةٍof FavorمِّنَfromاللهِAllahوَفَضْلٍand Bountyوَأَنَّand thatاللهَAllahلَا(does) notيُضِيعُlet go wasteأَجْرَ(the) rewardالْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers
They receive good tidings of favor from Allah and bounty and [of the fact] that Allah does not allow the reward of believers to be lost
الَّذِينَThose whoاسْتَجَابُواْrespondedلِلّٰهِto Allahوَالرَّسُولِand the Messengerمِنfromبَعْدِafterمَآwhatأَصَابَهُمُbefell themالْقَرْحُthe injuryلِلَّذِينَfor those whoأَحْسَنُواْdid goodمِنْهُمْamong themوَاتَّقَواْand feared Allahأَجْرٌ(is) a rewardعَظِيمٌgreat
Those [believers] who responded to Allah and the Messenger after injury had struck them. For those who did good among them and feared Allah is a great reward
الَّذِينَThose whoقَالَsaidلَهُمُto themالنَّاسُ[the people]إِنَّIndeedالنَّاسَthe peopleقَدْ(have) certainlyجَمَعُواْgatheredلَكُمْagainst youفَاخْشَوْهُمْso fear themفَزَادَهُمْBut it increased themإِيمَاناً(in) faithوَقَالُواْand they saidحَسْبُنَاSufficient for usاللهُ(is) Allahوَنِعْمَand (He is the) bestالْوَكِيلُ[the] Disposer of affairs
Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs
فَانقَلَبُواْSo they returnedبِنِعْمَةٍwith (the) FavorمِّنَofاللهِAllahوَفَضْلٍand Bountyلَّمْnotيَمْسَسْهُمْtouched themسُوٓءٌany harmوَاتَّبَعُواْAnd they followedرِضْوَانَ(the) pleasureاللهِ(of) Allahوَٱللّٰهُand Allahذُو(is) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَظِيمٍgreat
So they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty
إِنَّمَا(It is) onlyذَٰلِكُمُthatالشَّيْطَانُthe Shaitaanيُخَوِّفُfrightens (you)أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ(of) his alliesفَلَاSo (do) notتَخَافُوهُمْfear themوَخَافُونِbut fear Meإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers
That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْزُنكَgrieve youالَّذِينَthose whoيُسَارِعُونَhastenفِىin(to)الْكُفْرِ[the] disbeliefإِنَّهُمْIndeed theyلَنneverيَضُرُّواْwill harmاللهَAllahشَيْئًا(in) anythingيُرِيدُintendsاللهُAllahأَلَّاthat notيَجْعَلَHe will setلَهُمْfor themحَظًّاany portionفِىinالاٰخِرَةِthe HereafterوَلَهُمْAnd for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat
And do not be grieved, [O Muhammad], by those who hasten into disbelief. Indeed, they will never harm Allah at all. Allah intends that He should give them no share in the Hereafter, and for them is a great punishment
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoاشْتَرَوُاْ(have) purchasedالْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefبِالْإِيمَانِwith the faithلَنneverيَضُرُّواْwill they harmاللهَAllahشَيْئًا(in) anythingوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful
Indeed, those who purchase disbelief [in exchange] for faith - never will they harm Allah at all, and for them is a painful punishment
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkالَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓاdisbelievedأَنَّمَاthatنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themخَيْرٌ(is) goodلِّأَنفُسِهِمْfor themselvesإِنَّمَاOnlyنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themلِيَزْدَادُواْso that they may increaseإِثْمًا(in) sinsوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّهِينٌhumiliating
And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment
مَّاNotكَانَisاللهُAllahلِيَذَرَto leaveالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersعَلَىٰonمَآwhatأَنتُمْyou (are)عَلَيْهِin [it]حَتَّىٰuntilيَمِيزَHe separatesالْخَبِيثَthe evilمِنَfromالطَّيِّبِthe goodوَمَاAnd notكَانَisاللهُAllahلِيُطْلِعَكُمْto inform youعَلَىaboutالْغَيْبِthe unseenوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butاللهَAllahيَجْتَبِىchoosesمِنfromرُّسُلِهِۦHis MessengersمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsفَـَٔامِنُواْso believeبِٱللّٰهِin Allahوَرُسُلِهِۦand His Messengersوَإِنand ifتُؤْمِنُواْyou believeوَتَتَّقُواْand fear (Allah)فَلَكُمْthen for youأَجْرٌ(is a) rewardعَظِيمٌgreat
Allah would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good. Nor would Allah reveal to you the unseen. But [instead], Allah chooses of His messengers whom He wills, so believe in Allah and His messengers. And if you believe and fear Him, then for you is a great reward
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkالَّذِينَthose whoيَبْخَلُونَwithholdبِمَآof whatاٰتَاهُمُ(has) given themاللهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyهُوَ(that) itخَيْرًا(is) goodلَّهُمْfor themبَلْNayهُوَitشَرٌّ(is) badلَّهُمْfor themسَيُطَوَّقُونَTheir necks will be encircledمَا(with) whatبَخِلُواْthey withheldبِهِۦ[with it]يَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionوَلِلّٰهِAnd for Allahمِيرَاثُ(is the) heritageالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahبِمَاwith whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doخَبِيرٌ(is) All-Aware
And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, with what you do, is [fully] Acquainted
لَّقَدْCertainlyسَمِعَheardاللهُAllahقَوْلَ(the) sayingالَّذِينَ(of) those whoقَالُوٓاْsaidإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahفَقِيرٌ(is) poorوَنَحْنُwhile weأَغْنِيَآءُ(are) richسَنَكْتُبُWe will recordمَاwhatقَالُواْthey saidوَقَتْلَهُمُand their killingالْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّ(any) rightوَنَقُولُand We will sayذُوقُواْTasteعَذَابَ(the) punishmentالْحَرِيقِ(of) the Burning Fire
Allah has certainly heard the statement of those [Jews] who said, "Indeed, Allah is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right and will say, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire
ذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseقَدَّمَتْ(of what) sent forthأَيْدِيكُمْyour handsوَأَنَّand thatاللهَAllahلَيْسَis notبِظَلَّامٍunjustلِّلْعَبِيدِto (His) slaves
That is for what your hands have put forth and because Allah is not ever unjust to [His] servants
الَّذِينَThose whoقَالُوٓاْsaidإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahعَهِدَ(has) taken promiseإِلَيْنَآfrom usأَلَّاthat notنُؤْمِنَwe (should) believeلِرَسُولٍin a Messengerحَتَّىٰuntilيَأْتِيَنَاhe brings to usبِقُرْبَانٍa sacrificeتَأْكُلُهُconsumes itالنَّارُthe fireقُلْSayقَدْSurelyجَآءَكُمْcame to youرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِىbefore meبِالْبَيِّنَاتِwith the clear Signsوَبِالَّذِىand with whatقُلْتُمْyou speakفَلِمَSo why?قَتَلْتُمُوهُمْyou killed themإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَادِقِينَtruthful
[They are] those who said, "Indeed, Allah has taken our promise not to believe any messenger until he brings us an offering which fire [from heaven] will consume." Say, "There have already come to you messengers before me with clear proofs and [even] that of which you speak. So why did you kill them, if you should be truthful
فَإِنThen ifكَذَّبُوكَthey reject youفَقَدْthen certainlyكُذِّبَwere rejectedرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِكَbefore youجَآءُو(who) cameبِالْبَيِّنَاتِwith the clear Signsوَالزُّبُرِand the Scripturesوَالْكِتَابِand the Bookالْمُنِيرِ[the] Enlightening
Then if they deny you, [O Muhammad] - so were messengers denied before you, who brought clear proofs and written ordinances and the enlightening Scripture
كُلُّEveryنَفْسٍsoulذَآئِقَةُ(will) tasteالْمَوْتِ[the] deathوَإِنَّمَاand onlyتُوَفَّوْنَyou will be paid in fullأُجُورَكُمْyour rewardيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionفَمَنThen whoeverزُحْزِحَis drawn awayعَنِfromالنَّارِthe Fireوَأُدْخِلَand admittedالْجَنَّةَ(to) Paradiseفَقَدْthen surelyفَازَhe is successfulوَمَاAnd notالْحَيَاةُ(is) the lifeالدُّنْيَآ(of) the worldإِلَّاexceptمَتَاعُenjoymentالْغُرُورِ(of) delusion
Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion
لَتُبْلَوُنَّYou will certainly be testedفِىٓinأَمْوَالِكُمْyour wealthوَأَنفُسِكُمْand yourselvesوَلَتَسْمَعُنَّAnd you will certainly hearمِنَfromالَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُواْwere givenالْكِتَابَthe Bookمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youوَمِنَand fromالَّذِينَthose whoأَشْرَكُواْassociate partners with Allahأَذًىhurtful thingsكَثِيرًاmanyوَإِنand ifتَصْبِرُواْyou are patientوَتَتَّقُواْand fear (Allah)فَإِنَّthen indeedذَٰلِكَthatمِنْ(is) ofعَزْمِthe mattersالْأُمُورِ(of) determination
You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَtookاللهُAllahمِيثَاقَa Covenantالَّذِينَ(from) those whoأُوتُواْwere givenالْكِتَابَthe BookلَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُYou certainly make it clearلِلنَّاسِto the mankindوَلَاand (do) notتَكْتُمُونَهُۥconceal itفَنَبَذُوهُThen they threw itوَرَآءَbehindظُهُورِهِمْtheir backsوَاشْتَرَوْاand they exchangedبِهِۦ[with] itثَمَناً(for) priceقَلِيلًاa littleفَبِئْسَAnd wretchedمَا(is) whatيَشْتَرُونَthey purchase
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased
لَا(Do) notتَحْسَبَنَّyou thinkالَّذِينَ(that) those whoيَفْرَحُونَrejoiceبِمَآin whatأَتَواْ(they have) broughtوَّيُحِبُّونَand they loveأَنthatيُحْمَدُواْthey be praisedبِمَاfor whatلَمْnotيَفْعَلُواْthey doفَلَاso (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّهُمْthink (that) theyبِمَفَازَةٍ(will) escapeمِّنَfromالْعَذَابِthe punishmentوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is a) punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful
And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment
وَلِلّٰهِAnd for Allahمُلْكُ(is the) dominionالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱللّٰهُand Allahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful
And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is over all things competent
إِنَّIndeedفِىinخَلْقِ(the) creationالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthوَاخْتِلَافِand (in the) alternationالَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَالنَّهَارِand the dayلَآيَاتٍ(are) surely Signsلِّأُوْلِىfor menالْألْبَابِ(of) understanding
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding
الَّذِينَThose whoيَذْكُرُونَrememberاللهَAllahقِيَامًاstandingوَقُعُودًاand sittingوَعَلَىٰand onجُنُوبِهِمْtheir sidesوَيَتَفَكَّرُونَand they reflectفِىonخَلْقِ(the) creationالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthرَبَّنَاOur LordمَاnotخَلَقْتَYou have createdهَٰذَاthisبَاطِلًا(in) vainسُبْحَٰنَكَGlory be to Youفَقِنَاso save usعَذَابَ(from the) punishmentالنَّارِ(of) the Fire
Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire
رَبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّكَindeed [You]مَنwhomتُدْخِلِYou admitالنَّارَ(to) the Fireفَقَدْthen surelyأَخْزَيْتَهُۥYou (have) disgraced himوَمَاand notلِلظَّالِمِينَfor the wrongdoersمِنْ(are) anyأَنصَارٍhelpers
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers
رَّبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّنَاindeed weسَمِعْنَا[we] heardمُنَادِيًاa callerيُنَادِىcallingلِلإِيمَانِto the faithأَنْthatاٰمِنُواْBelieveبِرَبِّكُمْin your Lordفَـَٔامَنَّاso we have believedرَبَّنَاOur Lordفَاغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَكَفِّرْand removeعَنَّاfrom usسَيِّئَاتِنَاour evil deedsوَتَوَفَّنَاand cause us to dieمَعَwithالْأبْرَارِthe righteous
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous
رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَآتِنَاgrant usمَاwhatوَعَدتَّنَاYou promised usعَلَىٰthroughرُسُلِكَYour Messengersوَلَاand (do) notتُخْزِنَاdisgrace usيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionإِنَّكَIndeed Youلَا(do) notتُخْلِفُYou breakالْمِيعَادَthe promise
Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise
فَاسْتَجَابَThen respondedلَهُمْto themرَبُّهُمْtheir LordأَنِّىIndeed Iلَآ(will) notأُضِيعُI (let go) wasteعَمَلَdeedsعَامِلٍ(of the) doerمِّنكُمamong youمِّن[from]ذَكَرٍ(whether) maleأَوْorأُنثَىٰfemaleبَعْضُكُمeach of youمِّنْfromبَعْضٍ(the) otherفَالَّذِينَSo those whoهَاجَرُواْemigratedوَأُخْرِجُواْand were driven outمِنfromدِيَارِهِمْtheir homesوَأُوذُواْand were harmedفِىinسَبِيلِىMy wayوَقَاتَلُواْand foughtوَقُتِلُواْand were killedلَأُكَفِّرَنَّsurely I (will) removeعَنْهُمْfrom themسَيِّئَاتِهِمْtheir evil deedsوَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْand surely I will admit themجَنَّاتٍ(to) Gardensتَجْرِىflowingمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themالْأَنْهَارُthe riversثَوَابًاa rewardمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]اللهِAllahوَٱللّٰهُAnd Allahعِندَهُۥwith Himحُسْنُ(is the) bestالثَّوَابِreward
And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah, and Allah has with Him the best reward
لَا(Let) notيَغُرَّنَّكَdeceive youتَقَلُّبُ(the) movementالَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُواْdisbelievedفِىinالْبِلَادِthe land
Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land
مَتَاعٌAn enjoymentقَلِيلٌlittleثُمَّthenمَأْوَاهُمْtheir abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) hellوَبِئْسَ[and] a wretchedالْمِهَادُ[the] resting place
[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place
لَٰكِنِButالَّذِينَthose whoاتَّقَواْfearرَبَّهُمْtheir Lordلَهُمْfor themجَنَّاتٌ(will be) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themالْأَنْهَارُthe riversخَالِدِينَwill abide foreverفِيهَاin itنُزُلًاa hospitalityمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]اللهِAllahوَمَاAnd whatعِندَ(is) withاللهِAllahخَيْرٌ(is) bestلِّلْأَبْرَارِfor the righteous
But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allah. And that which is with Allah is best for the righteous
وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleالْكِتَابِ(of) the Bookلَمَن(are those) whoيُؤْمِنُbelieveبِٱللّٰهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْكُمْto youوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْهِمْto themخَاشِعِينَhumbly submissiveلِلّٰهِto Allahلَا(do) Notيَشْتَرُونَthey exchangeبِاٰيَاتِ[with] (the) Versesاللهِ(of) Allahثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themأَجْرُهُمْtheir rewardعِندَ(is) withرَبِّهِمْtheir LordإِنَّIndeedاللهَAllahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftالْحِسَابِ(in taking) the account
And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah. They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account
يَاأَيُّهَاO youالَّذِينَwhoاٰمَنُواْbelieve[d]!اصْبِرُواْBe steadfastوَصَابِرُواْand [be] patientوَرَابِطُواْand [be] constantوَاتَّقُواْand fearاللهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful
