بِسْمِIn (the) nameاللهِ(of) Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
قَدْIndeedأَفْلَحَsuccessfulالْمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) the believers
Certainly will the believers have succeeded
الَّذِينَThose whoهُمْ[they]فِىduringصَلَاتِهِمْtheir prayersخَاشِعُونَ(are) humbly submissive
They who are during their prayer humbly submissive
وَالَّذِينَThose whoهُمْ[they]عَنِfromاللَّغْوِthe vain talkمُعْرِضُونَturn away
And they who turn away from ill speech
وَالَّذِينَThose whoهُمْ[they]لِلزَّكَوٰةِof purification worksفَاعِلُونَ(are) doers
And they who are observant of zakah
وَالَّذِينَAnd those whoهُمْ[they]لِفُرُوجِهِمْof their modestyحَافِظُونَ(are) guardians
And they who guard their private parts
إِلَّاExceptعَلَىٰٓfromأَزْوَاجِهِمْtheir spousesأَوْorمَاwhatمَلَكَتْpossessأَيْمَانُهُمْtheir right handsفَإِنَّهُمْthen indeed theyغَيْرُ(are) notمَلُومِينَblameworthy
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed
فَمَنِThen whoeverابْتَغَىٰseeksوَرَآءَbeyondذَٰلِكَthatفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُ[they]الْعَادُونَ(are) the transgressors
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors
وَالَّذِينَAnd those whoهُمْ[they]لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْof their trustsوَعَهْدِهِمْand their promise(s)رَاعُونَ(are) observers
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
وَالَّذِينَAnd those whoهُمْ[they]عَلَىٰoverصَلَوَٰتِهِمْtheir prayersيُحَافِظُونَthey guard
And they who carefully maintain their prayers
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseهُمُ[they]الْوَارِثُونَ(are) the inheritors
Those are the inheritors
الَّذِينَWhoيَرِثُونَwill inheritالْفِرْدَوْسَthe ParadiseهُمْTheyفِيهَاthereinخَالِدُونَ(will) abide forever
Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedخَلَقْنَاWe createdالْإِنسَانَthe humankindمِنfromسُلَالَةٍan essenceمِّنofطِينٍclay
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay
ثُمَّThenجَعَلْنَاهُWe placed himنُطْفَةً(as) a semen-dropفِىinقَرَارٍa resting placeمَّكِينٍfirm
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging
ثُمَّThenخَلَقْنَاWe createdالنُّطْفَةَthe semen-dropعَلَقَةً(into) a clinging substanceفَخَلَقْنَاthen We createdالْعَلَقَةَthe clinging substanceمُضْغَةً(into) an embryonic lumpفَخَلَقْنَاthen We createdالْمُضْغَةَthe embryonic lumpعِظَامًا(into) bonesفَكَسَوْنَاthen We clothedالْعِظَامَthe bonesلَحْمًا(with) fleshثُمَّthenأَنشَأْنَاهُWe produce itخَلْقًا(as) a creationاٰخَرَanotherفَتَبَارَكَSo blessed isاللهُAllahأَحْسَنُ(the) Bestالْخَالِقِينَ(of) the Creators
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators
ثُمَّThenإِنَّكُمindeed youبَعْدَafterذَٰلِكَthatلَمَيِّتُونَsurely (will) die
Then indeed, after that you are to die
ثُمَّThenإِنَّكُمْindeed youيَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِيَامَةِ(of) the Resurrectionتُبْعَثُونَwill be resurrected
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedخَلَقْنَاWe (have) createdفَوْقَكُمْabove youسَبْعَsevenطَرَآئِقَpathsوَمَاand notكُنَّاWe areعَنِofالْخَلْقِthe creationغَافِلِينَunaware
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware
وَأَنزَلْنَاAnd We send downمِنَfromالسَّمَآءِthe skyمَآءًwaterبِقَدَرٍin (due) measureفَأَسْكَنَّاهُthen We cause it to settleفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthوَإِنَّاAnd indeed Weعَلَىٰonذَهَابٍtaking awayبِهِۦof itلَقَادِرُونَsurely (are) Able
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away
فَأَنشَأْنَاThen We producedلَكُمfor youبِهِۦby itجَنَّاتٍgardensمِّنofنَّخِيلٍdate-palmsوَأَعْنَابٍand grapevinesلَّكُمْfor youفِيهَاin itفَوَاكِهُ(are) fruitsكَثِيرَةٌabundantوَمِنْهَاand from themتَأْكُلُونَyou eat
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat
وَشَجَرَةًAnd a treeتَخْرُجُ(that) springs forthمِنfromطُورِMountسَيْنَآءَSinaiتَنبُتُ(which) producesبِالدُّهْنِoilوَصِبْغٍand a relishلِّلْآكِلِينَfor those who eat
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat
وَإِنَّAnd indeedلَكُمْfor youفِىinالْأَنْعَامِthe cattleلَعِبْرَةًsurely (is) a lessonنُّسقِيكُمWe give you drinkمِّمَّاfrom whatفِى(is) inبُطُونِهَاtheir belliesوَلَكُمْand for youفِيهَاin themمَنَافِعُ(are) benefitsكَثِيرَةٌmanyوَمِنْهَاand of themتَأْكُلُونَyou eat
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat
وَعَلَيْهَاAnd on themوَعَلَىand onالْفُلْكِ[the] shipsتُحْمَلُونَyou are carried
And upon them and on ships you are carried
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentنُوحًاNuhإِلَىٰtoقَوْمِهِۦhis peopleفَقَالَand he saidيَاقَوْمِO my people!اعْبُدُواْWorshipاللهَAllahمَاnotلَكُمfor youمِّنْ(is) anyإِلَٰهٍgodغَيْرُهُۥٓother than HimأَفَلَاThen will not?تَتَّقُونَyou fear
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him
فَقَالَBut saidالْمَلَؤُاthe chiefsالَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُواdisbelievedمِنamongقَوْمِهِۦhis peopleمَاnotهَٰذَآThis isإِلَّاbutبَشَرٌa manمِّثْلُكُمْlike youيُرِيدُhe wishesأَنtoيَتَفَضَّلَassert (his) superiorityعَلَيْكُمْover youوَلَوْand ifشَآءَhad willedاللهُAllahلَأَنزَلَsurely He (would have) sent downمَلَآئِكَةٌAngelsمَّاNotسَمِعْنَاwe heardبِهَٰذَاof thisفِىٓfromاٰبَآئِنَاour forefathersالْأَوَّلِينَthe old
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allah had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers
إِنْNotهُوَheإِلَّا(is) butرَجُلٌa manبِهِۦin himجِنَّةٌ(is) madnessفَتَرَبَّصُواso waitبِهِۦconcerning himحَتَّىٰuntilحِينٍa time
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time
قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lord!انصُرْنِىHelp meبِمَاbecauseكَذَّبُونِthey deny me
[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me
فَأَوْحَيْنَآSo We inspiredإِلَيْهِto himأَنِThatاصْنَعِconstructالْفُلْكَthe shipبِأَعْيُنِنَاunder Our eyesوَوَحْيِنَاand Our inspirationفَإِذَاthen whenجَآءَcomesأَمْرُنَاOur Commandوَفَارَand gushes forthالتَّنُّورُthe ovenفَاسْلُكْthen putفِيهَاinto itمِنofكُلٍّevery (kind)زَوْجَيْنِ(of) matesاثْنَيْنِtwoوَأَهْلَكَand your familyإِلَّاexceptمَنthoseسَبَقَ(has) precededعَلَيْهِagainst whomالْقَوْلُthe WordمِنْهُمْthereofوَلَاAnd (do) notتُخَاطِبْنِىaddress Meفِىconcerningالَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوٓاْwrongedإِنَّهُمindeed theyمُّغْرَقُونَ(are) the ones to be drowned
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation, and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into the ship from each [creature] two mates and your family, except those for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned
فَإِذَاAnd whenاسْتَوَيْتَyou (have) boardedأَنتَyouوَمَنand whoeverمَّعَكَ(is) with youعَلَى[on]الْفُلْكِthe shipفَقُلِthen sayالْحَمْدُPraiseلِلّٰهِ(be) to AllahالَّذِىWhoنَجَّانَا(has) saved usمِنَfromالْقَوْمِthe peopleالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allah who has saved us from the wrongdoing people
وَقُلAnd sayرَّبِّMy Lordأَنزِلْنِىcause me to landمُنزَلًا(at) a landing placeمُّبَارَكًاblessedوَأَنتَand Youخَيْرُ(are) the Bestالْمُنزِلِينَ(of) those who cause to land
And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us]
إِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَآيَاتٍsurely (are) Signsوَإِنand indeedكُنَّاWe areلَمُبْتَلِينَsurely testing
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants]
ثُمَّThenأَنشَأْنَاWe producedمِنfromبَعْدِهِمْafter themقَرْنًاa generationاٰخَرِينَanother
Then We produced after them a generation of others
فَأَرْسَلْنَاAnd We sentفِيهِمْamong themرَسُولًاa Messengerمِّنْهُمْfrom themselvesأَنِ[that]اعْبُدُواْWorshipاللهَAllahمَاnotلَكُمfor youمِّنْ(is) anyإِلَٰهٍgodغَيْرُهُۥٓother than HimأَفَلَاThen will not?تَتَّقُونَyou fear
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him
وَقَالَAnd saidالْمَلَأُthe chiefsمِنofقَوْمِهِhis peopleالَّذِينَwhoكَفَرُواdisbelievedوَكَذَّبُواand deniedبِلِقَآءِ(the) meetingالْاٰخِرَةِ(of) the Hereafterوَأَتْرَفْنَاهُمْwhile We had given them luxuryفِىinالْحَيَاةِthe lifeالدُّنْيَا(of) the worldمَاNotهَٰذَآ(is) thisإِلَّاbutبَشَرٌa manمِّثْلُكُمْlike youيَأْكُلُHe eatsمِمَّاof whatتَأْكُلُونَyou eatمِنْهُ[from it]وَيَشْرَبُand he drinksمِمَّاof whatتَشْرَبُونَyou drink
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink
وَلَئِنْAnd surely ifأَطَعْتُمyou obeyبَشَرًاa manمِّثْلَكُمْlike youإِنَّكُمْindeed youإِذًاthenلَّخَاسِرُونَsurely (will be) losers
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers
أَيَعِدُكُمْDoes he promise you?أَنَّكُمْthat youإِذَاwhenمِتُّمْyou are deadوَكُنتُمْand you becomeتُرَابًاdustوَعِظَامًاand bonesأَنَّكُمthat youمُّخْرَجُونَ(will be) brought forth
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]
هَيْهَاتَFar-(fetched)هَيْهَاتَfar-(fetched)لِمَاis whatتُوعَدُونَyou are promised!
How far, how far, is that which you are promised
إِنْNotهِىَitإِلَّا(is) butحَيَاتُنَاour lifeالدُّنْيَا(of) the worldنَمُوتُwe dieوَنَحْيَاand we liveوَمَاand notنَحْنُweبِمَبْعُوثِينَ(will be) resurrected
Life is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected
إِنْNotهُوَ(is) heإِلَّاbutرَجُلٌa manافْتَرَىٰwho (has) inventedعَلَىaboutاللهِAllahكَذِبًاa lieوَمَاand notنَحْنُweلَهُۥ(in) himبِمُؤْمِنِينَ(are) believers
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him
قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy Lord!انصُرْنِىHelp meبِمَاbecauseكَذَّبُونِthey deny me
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me
قَالَHe saidعَمَّاAfterقَلِيلٍa little whileلَّيُصْبِحُنَّsurely they will becomeنَادِمِينَregretful
[Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُSo seized themالصَّيْحَةُthe awful cryبِالْحَقِّin truthفَجَعَلْنَاهُمْand We made themغُثَآءً(as) rubbish of dead leavesفَبُعْدًاSo awayلِّلْقَوْمِwith the peopleالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people
ثُمَّThenأَنشَأْنَاWe producedمِنfromبَعْدِهِمْafter themقُرُونًاgenerationsاٰخَرِينَanother
Then We produced after them other generations
مَاNotتَسْبِقُcan precedeمِنْanyأُمَّةٍnationأَجَلَهَاits termوَمَاand notيَسْتَأْخِرُونَthey (can) delay (it)
No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]
ثُمَّThenأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentرُسُلَنَاOur Messengersتَتْرَا(in) successionكُلَّEveryمَاtimeجَآءَcameأُمَّةً(to) a nationرَّسُولُهَاits Messengerكَذَّبُوهُthey denied himفَأَتْبَعْنَاso We made (them) followبَعْضَهُمsome of themبَعْضًاothersوَجَعَلْنَاهُمْand We made themأَحَادِيثَnarrationsفَبُعْدًاSo awayلِّقَوْمٍwith a peopleلَّاnotيُؤْمِنُونَthey believe
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe
ثُمَّThenأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentمُوسَىٰMusaوَأَخَاهُand his brotherهَارُونَHarunبِاٰيَاتِنَاwith Our Signsوَسُلْطَانٍand an authorityمُّبِينٍclear
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
إِلَىٰToفِرْعَوْنَFiraunوَمَلَإِيهِۦand his chiefsفَاسْتَكْبَرُواbut they behaved arrogantlyوَكَانُواand they wereقَوْمًاa peopleعَالِينَhaughty
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people
فَقَالُوٓاThen they saidأَنُؤْمِنُShall we believe?لِبَشَرَيْنِ(in) two menمِثْلِنَاlike ourselvesوَقَوْمُهُمَاwhile their peoples of bothلَنَاfor usعَابِدُونَ(are) slaves
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَاSo they denied both of themفَكَانُواand they becameمِنَofالْمُهْلَكِينَthose who were destroyed
So they denied them and were of those destroyed
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyاٰتَيْنَاWe gaveمُوسَىMusaالْكِتَابَthe Scriptureلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَهْتَدُونَbe guided
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeابْنَ(the) sonمَرْيَمَ(of) Maryamوَأُمَّهُۥٓand his motherاٰيَةًa Signوَآوَيْنَاهُمَآand We sheltered both of themإِلَىٰtoرَبْوَةٍa high groundذَاتِpossessor ofقَرَارٍtranquilityوَمَعِينٍand water springs
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water
يَاأَيُّهَاOالرُّسُلُMessengers!كُلُواEatمِنَofالطَّيِّبَاتِthe good thingsوَاعْمَلُواْand doصَالِحًاrighteous (deeds)إِنِّىIndeed I Amبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doعَلِيمٌAll-Knower
[Allah said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed, I, of what you do, am Knowing
وَإِنَّAnd indeedهَٰذِهِۦٓthisأُمَّتُكُمْyour religionأُمَّةً(is) religionوَاحِدَةًoneوَأَنَاAnd I Amرَبُّكُمْyour Lordفَاتَّقُونِso fear Me
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓاBut they cut offأَمْرَهُمtheir affair (of unity)بَيْنَهُمْbetween themزُبُرًا(into) sectsكُلُّeachحِزْبٍfactionبِمَاin whatلَدَيْهِمْthey haveفَرِحُونَrejoicing
But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing
فَذَرْهُمْSo leave themفِىinغَمْرَتِهِمْtheir confusionحَتَّىٰuntilحِينٍa time
So leave them in their confusion for a time
أَيَحْسَبُونَDo they think?أَنَّمَاthat whatنُمِدُّهُمWe extend to themبِهِۦ[with it]مِنofمَّالٍwealthوَبَنِينَand children
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
نُسَارِعُWe hastenلَهُمْto themفِىinالْخَيْرَاتِthe goodبَلNayلَّاnotيَشْعُرُونَthey perceive
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive
إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoهُم[they]مِّنْfromخَشْيَةِ(the) fearرَبِّهِم(of) their Lordمُّشْفِقُونَ(are) cautious
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
وَالَّذِينَAnd thoseهُم[they]بِاٰيَاتِin (the) Signsرَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lordيُؤْمِنُونَbelieve
And they who believe in the signs of their Lord
وَالَّذِينَAnd thoseهُم[they]بِرَبِّهِمْwith their Lordلَا(do) notيُشْرِكُونَassociate partners
And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
وَالَّذِينَAnd those whoيُؤْتُونَgiveمَآwhatاٰتَواthey giveوَّقُلُوبُهُمْwhile their heartsوَجِلَةٌ(are) fearfulأَنَّهُمْbecause theyإِلَىٰtoرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordرَاجِعُونَ(will) return
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ(It is) thoseيُسَارِعُونَwho hastenفِىinالْخَيْرَاتِthe good (deeds)وَهُمْand theyلَهَاin themسَابِقُونَ(are) foremost
It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein
وَلَاAnd notنُكَلِّفُWe burdenنَفْسًاany soulإِلَّاexceptوُسْعَهَا(to) its capacityوَلَدَيْنَاand with Usكِتَابٌ(is) a Recordيَنطِقُ(which) speaksبِالْحَقِّwith the truthوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged
بَلْNayقُلُوبُهُمْtheir heartsفِى(are) inغَمْرَةٍconfusionمِّنْoverهَٰذَاthisوَلَهُمْand for themأَعْمَالٌ(are) deedsمِّنْfromدُونِbesidesذَٰلِكَthatهُمْtheyلَهَاfor itعَامِلُونَ(are) doers
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing
حَتَّىٰٓUntilإِذَاwhenأَخَذْنَاWe seizeمُتْرَفِيهِمtheir affluent onesبِالْعَذَابِwith the punishmentإِذَاbehold!هُمْTheyيَجْـَٔرُونَcry for help
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah] for help
لَا(Do) notتَجْأَرُواcry for helpالْيَوْمَtodayإِنَّكُمIndeed youمِّنَّاfrom Usلَاnotتُنصَرُونَwill be helped
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped
قَدْVerilyكَانَتْwereاٰيَاتِىMy Versesتُتْلَىٰrecitedعَلَيْكُمْto youفَكُنتُمْbut you usedعَلَىٰٓ(to) onأَعْقَابِكُمْyour heelsتَنكِصُونَturn back
My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ(Being) arrogantبِهِۦabout itسَامِرًاconversing by nightتَهْجُرُونَspeaking evil
In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil
أَفَلَمْThen do not?يَدَّبَّرُواthey ponderالْقَوْلَthe Wordأَمْorجَآءَهُمhas come to themمَّاwhatلَمْnotيَأْتِ(had) comeاٰبَآءَهُمُ(to) their forefathersالْأَوَّلِينَthe old
Then have they not reflected over the Qur'an, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers
أَمْOrلَمْ(do) notيَعْرِفُواthey recognizeرَسُولَهُمْtheir Messengerفَهُمْso theyلَهُۥ(are) rejecting himمُنكِرُونَ(are) rejecting him
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging
أَمْOrيَقُولُونَthey sayبِهِۦIn himجِنَّةٌ(is) madnessبَلْNayجَآءَهُمhe brought themبِالْحَقِّthe truthوَأَكْثَرُهُمْbut most of themلِلْحَقِّto the truthكَارِهُونَ(are) averse
Or do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse
وَلَوِBut ifاتَّبَعَ(had) followedالْحَقُّthe truthأَهْوَآءَهُمْtheir desiresلَفَسَدَتِsurely (would) have been corruptedالسَّمَاوَاتُthe heavensوَالْأَرْضُand the earthوَمَنand whoeverفِيهِنَّ(is) thereinبَلْNayأَتَيْنَاهُمWe have brought themبِذِكْرِهِمْtheir reminderفَهُمْbut theyعَنfromذِكْرِهِمtheir reminderمُّعْرِضُونَ(are) turning away
But if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away
أَمْOrتَسْأَلُهُمْyou ask themخَرْجًا(for) a paymentفَخَرَاجُBut the paymentرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordخَيْرٌ(is) bestوَهُوَand Heخَيْرُ(is) the Bestالرَّازِقِينَ(of) the Providers
Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers
وَإِنَّكَAnd indeed youلَتَدْعُوهُمْcertainly call themإِلَىٰtoصِرَاطٍ(the) PathمُّسْتَقِيمٍStraight
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path
وَإِنَّAnd indeedالَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِالْاَٰخِرَةِin the Hereafterعَنِfromالصِّرَاطِthe pathلَنَاكِبُونَsurely (are) deviating
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path
وَلَوْAnd ifرَحِمْنَاهُمْWe had mercy on themوَكَشَفْنَاand We removedمَاwhatبِهِم(was) on themمِّنofضُرٍّ(the) hardshipلَّلَجُّواsurely they would persistفِىinطُغْيَانِهِمْtheir transgressionيَعْمَهُونَwandering blindly
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyأَخَذْنَاهُمWe seized themبِالْعَذَابِwith the punishmentفَمَاbut notاسْتَكَانُواْthey submitلِرَبِّهِمْto their Lordوَمَاand notيَتَضَرَّعُونَthey supplicate humbly
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
حَتَّىٰٓUntilإِذَاwhenفَتَحْنَاWe openedعَلَيْهِمfor themبَابًاa gateذَاof aعَذَابٍpunishmentشَدِيدٍsevereإِذَاbehold!هُمْTheyفِيهِin itمُبْلِسُونَ(will be in) despair
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair
وَهُوَAnd Heالَّذِىٓ(is) the One Whoأَنشَأَproducedلَكُمُfor youالسَّمْعَthe hearingوَالْأَبْصَارَand the sightوَالْأَفْئِدَةَand the feelingقَلِيلًاlittleمَّا(is) whatتَشْكُرُونَyou give thanks
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful
وَهُوَAnd Heالَّذِى(is) the One Whoذَرَأَكُمْmultiplied youفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthوَإِلَيْهِand to Himتُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered
وَهُوَAnd Heالَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُحْىِۦgives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathوَلَهُand for Himاخْتِلَافُ(is the) alternationالَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَالنَّهَارِand the dayأَفَلَاThen will not?تَعْقِلُونَyou reason
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason
بَلْNayقَالُواْthey sayمِثْلَ(the) likeمَا(of) whatقَالَsaidالْأَوَّلُونَthe former (people)
Rather, they say like what the former peoples said
قَالُوٓاْThey saidأَئِذَاWhat! When?مِتْنَاwe are deadوَكُنَّاand we becomeتُرَابًاdustوَعِظَامًاand bonesأَءِنَّاwould we?لَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely be resurrected
They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected
لَقَدْVerilyوُعِدْنَاwe have been promisedنَحْنُ[we]وَآبَآؤُنَاand our forefathersهَٰذَاthisمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeإِنْnotهَٰذَآ(is) thisإِلَّآbutأَسَاطِيرُ(the) talesالْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples
قُلSayلِّمَنِTo whom (belongs)?الْأَرْضُthe earthوَمَنand whoeverفِيهَآ(is) in itإِنifكُنتُمْyouتَعْلَمُونَknow
Say, [O Muhammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know
سَيَقُولُونَThey will sayلِلّٰهِTo AllahقُلْSayأَفَلَاThen will not?تَذَكَّرُونَyou remember
They will say, "To Allah." Say, "Then will you not remember
قُلْSayمَنWhoرَّبُّ(is the) Lordالسَّمَاوَاتِ(of) the heavensالسَّبْعِthe sevenوَرَبُّand (the) Lordالْعَرْشِ(of) the Throneالْعَظِيمِthe Great
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne
سَيَقُولُونَThey will sayلِلّٰهِAllahقُلْSayأَفَلَاThen will not?تَتَّقُونَyou fear (Him)
They will say, "[They belong] to Allah." Say, "Then will you not fear Him
قُلْSayمَنWho is (it)بِيَدِهِin Whose Hand(s)مَلَكُوتُ(is the) dominionكُلِّ(of) allشَىْءٍthingsوَهُوَand Heيُجِيرُprotectsوَلَاand no (one)يُجَارُ(can) be protectedعَلَيْهِagainst HimإِنIfكُنتُمْyouتَعْلَمُونَknow
Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know
سَيَقُولُونَThey will sayلِلّٰهِAllahقُلْSayفَأَنَّىٰThen how?تُسْحَرُونَare you deluded
They will say, "[All belongs] to Allah." Say, "Then how are you deluded
بَلْNayأَتَيْنَاهُمWe (have) brought themبِالْحَقِّthe truthوَإِنَّهُمْbut indeed theyلَكَاذِبُونَsurely (are) liars
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars
مَاNotاتَّخَذَhas takenاللهُAllahمِنanyوَلَدٍsonوَمَاand notكَانَisمَعَهُۥwith HimمِنْanyإِلَٰهٍgodإِذًاThenلَّذَهَبَsurely (would have) taken awayكُلُّeachإِلَٰهٍgodبِمَاwhatخَلَقَhe createdوَلَعَلَاand surely would have overpoweredبَعْضُهُمْsome of themعَلَىٰ[on]بَعْضٍothersسُبْحَٰنَGlory beاللهِ(to) Allahعَمَّاabove whatيَصِفُونَthey attribute!
Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him]
عَالِمِKnowerالْغَيْبِ(of) the unseenوَالشَّهَادَةِand the witnessedفَتَعَالَىٰexalted is Heعَمَّاabove whatيُشْرِكُونَthey associate
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him]
قُلSayرَّبِّMy Lord!إِمَّاIfتُرِيَنِّىYou should show meمَاwhatيُوعَدُونَthey are promised
Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised
رَبِّMy Lordفَلَاthen (do) notتَجْعَلْنِيYou place meفِىamongالْقَوْمِthe peopleالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people
وَإِنَّاAnd indeed WeعَلَىٰٓonأَنthatنُّرِيَكَWe show youمَاwhatنَعِدُهُمْWe have promised themلَقَادِرُونَsurely able
And indeed, We are able to show you what We have promised them
ادْفَعْRepelبِالَّتِىby thatهِىَwhichأَحْسَنُ(is) bestالسَّيِّئَةَthe evilنَحْنُWeأَعْلَمُknow bestبِمَاof whatيَصِفُونَthey attribute
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe
وَقُلAnd sayرَّبِّMy Lord!أَعُوذُI seek refugeبِكَin Youمِنْfromهَمَزَاتِ(the) suggestionsالشَّيَاطِينِ(of) the evil ones
And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils
وَأَعُوذُAnd I seek refugeبِكَin YouرَبِّMy Lord!أَنLestيَحْضُرُونِthey be present with me
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me
حَتَّىٰٓUntilإِذَاwhenجَآءَcomesأَحَدَهُمُ(to) one of themالْمَوْتُthe deathقَالَhe saysرَبِّMy Lord!ارْجِعُونِSend me back
[For such is the state of the disbelievers], until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back
لَعَلِّىٓThat I mayأَعْمَلُdoصَالِحًاrighteous (deeds)فِيمَاin whatتَرَكْتُI left behindكَلَّآNo!إِنَّهَاIndeed itكَلِمَةٌ(is) a wordهُوَheقَآئِلُهَاspeaks itوَمِنand fromوَرَآئِهِمbefore themبَرْزَخٌ(is) a barrierإِلَىٰtillيَوْمِ(the) Dayيُبْعَثُونَthey are resurrected
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected
فَإِذَاSo whenنُفِخَis blownفِىinالصُّورِthe trumpetفَلَآthen notأَنسَابَ(there) will be relationshipبَيْنَهُمْamong themيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayوَلَاand notيَتَسَآءَلُونَwill they ask each other
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another
فَمَنThen (the one) whoseثَقُلَتْ(are) heavyمَوَازِينُهُۥhis scalesفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُtheyالْمُفْلِحُونَ(are) the successful
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful
وَمَنْBut (the one) whoseخَفَّتْ(are) lightمَوَازِينُهُۥhis scalesفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَthen thoseالَّذِينَthey [who]خَسِرُواhave lostأَنفُسَهُمْtheir soulsفِىinجَهَنَّمَHellخَالِدُونَthey (will) abide forever
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally
تَلْفَحُWill burnوُجُوهَهُمُtheir facesالنَّارُthe Fireوَهُمْand theyفِيهَاin itكَالِحُونَ(will) grin with displaced lips
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles
أَلَمْnot?تَكُنْWereاٰيَاتِىMy Versesتُتْلَىٰrecitedعَلَيْكُمْto youفَكُنتُمand you used (to)بِهَاdeny themتُكَذِّبُونَdeny them
[It will be said]. "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them
قَالُواْThey (will) sayرَبَّنَاOur Lord!غَلَبَتْOvercameعَلَيْنَا[on] usشِقْوَتُنَاour wretchednessوَكُنَّاand we wereقَوْمًاa peopleضَآلِّينَastray
They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray
رَبَّنَآOur Lord!أَخْرِجْنَاBring us outمِنْهَاfrom itفَإِنْthen ifعُدْنَاwe returnفَإِنَّاthen indeed weظَالِمُونَ(would be) wrongdoers
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers
قَالَHe (will) sayاخْسَئُواْRemain despisedفِيهَاin itوَلَاand (do) notتُكَلِّمُونِspeak to Me
He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me
إِنَّهُۥIndeedكَانَ(there) wasفَرِيقٌa partyمِّنْofعِبَادِىMy slavesيَقُولُونَ(who) saidرَبَّنَآOur Lord!اٰمَنَّاWe believeفَاغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاusوَارْحَمْنَاand have mercy on usوَأَنتَand Youخَيْرُ(are) bestالرَّاحِمِينَ(of) those who show mercy
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful
فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْBut you took themسِخْرِيًّا(in) mockeryحَتَّىٰٓuntilأَنسَوْكُمْthey made you forgetذِكْرِىMy remembranceوَكُنتُمand you used (to)مِّنْهُمْat themتَضْحَكُونَlaugh
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them
إِنِّىIndeed IجَزَيْتُهُمُI have rewarded themالْيَوْمَthis Dayبِمَاbecauseصَبَرُوٓاthey were patientأَنَّهُمْindeed theyهُمُ[they]الْفَآئِزُونَ(are) the successful ones
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]
قَالَHe will sayكَمْHow long?لَبِثْتُمْdid you remainفِىinالْأَرْضِthe earthعَدَدَ(in) numberسِنِينَ(of) years
[Allah] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years
قَالُواْThey will sayلَبِثْنَاWe remainedيَوْمًاa dayأَوْorبَعْضَa partيَوْمٍ(of) a dayفَاسْـَٔلِbut askالْعَادِّينَthose who keep count
They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate
قَالَHe will sayإِنNotلَّبِثْتُمْyou stayedإِلَّاbutقَلِيلًاa littleلَّوْifأَنَّكُمْonly youكُنتُمْ[you]تَعْلَمُونَknew
He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْThen did you think?أَنَّمَاthatخَلَقْنَاكُمْWe created youعَبَثًاuselesslyوَأَنَّكُمْand that youإِلَيْنَاto Usلَاnotتُرْجَعُونَwill be returned
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned
فَتَعَالَىٰSo exalted isاللهُAllahالْمَلِكُthe Kingالْحَقُّthe Truthلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimرَبُّ(the) Lordالْعَرْشِ(of) the ThroneالْكَرِيمِHonorable
So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne
وَمَنAnd whoeverيَدْعُinvokesمَعَwithاللهِAllahإِلَٰهًاgodاٰخَرَotherلَاnoبُرْهَانَproofلَهُۥfor himبِهِۦin itفَإِنَّمَاThen onlyحِسَابُهُۥhis accountعِندَ(is) withرَبِّهِۦٓhis LordإِنَّهُۥIndeed [he]لَاnotيُفْلِحُwill succeedالْكَافِرُونَthe disbelievers
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed
وَقُلAnd sayرَّبِّMy Lord!اغْفِرْForgiveوَارْحَمْand have mercyوَأَنتَand Youخَيْرُ(are the) Bestالرَّاحِمِينَ(of) those who show mercy
And, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful
