A preposition and a pronoun written as one word.
Each of the core prepositions takes the same set of pronoun suffixes as a noun does — giving one word where English needs two.
The pattern is the same for the others.
| Word | |
|---|---|
| me | لِىfor me |
| you (m.) | لَكَfor you |
| him | لَهُfor him |
| her | لَهَاfor her |
| us | لَنَاfor us |
| you (pl.) | لَكُمْfor you all |
| them | لَهُمْfor them |
The same eight suffixes as the possessive pronouns (ـي / ـكَ / ـهُ / ـهَا / ـنَا / ـكُمْ / ـهُمْ / ـهُنَّ). Watch the vowel before هُ and هُمْ: it becomes هِ / هِمْ after an ‑i or ‑ī sound — بِهِ (bihi) "with him", but لَهُ (lahu) "for him".
